Dan, Joe, That was great and informative. I hunt south Alabama high pressure public land where a mature buck is a real trophy to kill. Hoping your info and tactics on bedding areas gets me closer to getting one! Thks again!

T Judson, I hunt heavily pressured public land next door in MS. Here, too, a 3.5 or 4.5 year old buck is a trophy. Watching Dan has been a massive benefit to me, mostly his techniques hunting swamps and river bottoms. Dan taught me to forget about food sources and start looking for where they spend most of their lives - bedding. He also taught me that mature bucks will traverse large areas of water to find isolation. I had NO idea bucks would often walk a mile or more through knee-high water - even swim - to get away from people. Food is secondary. Dan Infalt helped my hunting more than anything else in my hunting career.

Nice that you can harvest 2 antlered deer in the same year. Can't do that in Ohio.

Where do the big bucks bed when there aren't any swamps or high grasses? Big ones here in PA don't behave quite the same as the midwestern aquatic bucks.

How do you guys find their beds during season? It would seem you walk their trails. But doesn't that leave a bunch of scent that would spook them?
@thehuntingbeast
@thehuntingbeast 8 жыл бұрын
+Zack A Hi Zack, most of my scouting is done in the winter and spring months, however, after you have seen buck bedding, you will find you can start to tell where they are bedding just bt looking at an aerial or topo map, or by looking at the terrain.
