I graduated in '82 & my brother & I both were HUGE STONERS!! Now he's got MS & grows his own plants for medicinal use (within state laws, of course)...I basically quit years ago, but now I have a lot of chronic pain disorders, but I take care of my mom & I have to be clear headed, & not stoned. I'm on about 14 different prescriptions now for all of my pain disorders, which I absolutely loathe, but I can't live somewhat normally without them. I was glad to see this upload. This really brought back alotta memories....THANKS!!!

Epic! Been looking for this for years. The party in the backyard at 13:00 was in my backyard, the high school graduation party! One thing not mentioned was HBO gave us a lot of the weed we were all smoking during the filming of this.

"HBO gave us a lot of the weed we were all smoking during the filming of this." That's very interesting. I knew they manipulated some of the scenes but didn't know this.

NO WAY!! SERIOUSLY???? Why didn't I ever get that kinda luck when I was partying back then?? I always got caught & then would get grounded for the semester....I think I was grounded the entire time I was in High School, LOL! I was doing EVERYTHING back then...got high on the daily, took about 10-15 speeders everyday, did acid, drank....I still wouldn't trade it for anything though. The 80's kicked ass!!!

My parents were super strict but not like John's parents. Good Lawd, those people are a little TOO uptight!! I mean, they drank & they were young, like in their 30's when I was in high school, but they just drank a little bit every once in a while, nothing major. When the mom started telling her she couldn't go to drive-ins, I cracked up!!! I can remember my best friend's bf had a full size truck that was really fixed up in the back with a camper on the back. There were these human-sized lock boxes back there, so a bunch of us would pile in the truck & go to the drive in & not have to pay for all of us to get in. God I miss the 80's!!!!

Can anyone find HBO’s America Undercover, Hooker 1983
@jacobhartmann1050 Жыл бұрын
Speaking of retro HBO Documentaries about drugs, I've been trying FOREVER to find 'How to raise a drug-free child' from '89/90, hosted by Mary Tyler Moore- I want to use several bits/segments of it for my own 'Refer Madness'/War on Drugs art piece... Funny enough, the snippet in this documentary at around 3:00 with the girl with the shaky leg is also in that one... If anyone, ANYONE has access to that and could upload it- it's really hard to find apparently, but there are other documentaries from that time (like this one) that are just as obscure yet find their way to KZbin. Appreciate any help! 👊

Love these America Undercover documentaries, however my issue is they make weed out to be like it ruins people's lives, these kids where on actual addictive drugs as well and drinking heavily.

This is 40 yrs old. The position of this doc reflects Reagan’s escalation of the long-labored War on Drugs. With Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign, marijuana was declared the “gateway” drug to harder stuff, so it bore a particularly dark mark. Of course, the real gateway drug is alcohol, but white men in gray suits who run big corporations that trade publicly make a lot of money off that. So no matter how conservative our elected government, you’ll never see prohibition again. And now that the majority of States have decriminalized or legalized weed, the suits have their hands all over it. Just look at the number of cannabis companies on the NASDAQ/NYSE. These co’s have all the safety nets and govt loves them for the tax revenue they generate. I’m in the NY tri-state and at the start of the decriminalization movement, it was talked up as a means of squaring with black/brown communities that disproportionately serve long prison sentences for moving marijuana. Total BS. It’s always the same story: follow the money.

I did 3 weeds at one time and drank a zima, next thing I know I'm homeless, no money and coach Clark started to molester me. I blame it on those 3 weeds.

Does anyone know whatever happened to these kids? I did a Google search and I'm fairly certain Adam's a professional guitar teacher now. I'd like to know what happened to John. And whether he's still alive.

John is a rebel without a cause. Reminds me a little of me back then. There's an inner anger that makes hims so belligerent, wearing his bad boy on his sleeve. I found his parents a bit timid and lacking certain aspects of communication, however, I'm sure this is difficult for any parent. Hope he straightened out.
@MarvinJudson Жыл бұрын
His real name was Jonathan so Jon was his nickname, not John. HBO got it wrong. Sadly, he died at age 26 from an accidental drowning.

Wow the mindset of society has changed so much. When I was a teenager in the late 90s and early 2000s smoking weed or having a drink was not something I would hide from my parents. It was not forbidden. It really wasn't a big deal and my parents never forbid me from it. I think the reason why the kids in this Are so obsessed with it is because their parents make too big of a deal about it.
