A lot of people mention this as though Logan genuinely thought Kendall would poison him; he knows Kendall wouldn’t, and the Roy’s aren’t exactly a medieval society where poisonings at dinner are common. He just did it to play a sick mind game; he does it to psych him out a bit. It’s very twisted and malicious, but no way he genuinely thought the food was poisoned.

I really read it as Logan calling Kendall out on the superficial ignorance he has feigned to the business Waystar was always in. Kendall took to a humanitarian and what some would call a hopeless “woke” approach to battling the indecencies of the company, but it was unfounded on the basis of him only purporting those ideologies because it best benefited him in his attempt to win the game. Logan is saying Kendall always knew and only began to care about the malpractice of the company when it best suited him. He pretends to be a white knight fighting for what’s right, but only when it’s the best play he had.

So the (famous) Koch brothers fund straight-up evil politics, and the (anonymous) Koch brothers have to live with the knowledge that they could have prevented that.

I love how Brian conveys a hint of convincement. He starts buying into what Kendall is saying, becuase at some point he starts saying real life reasons as to why he wants out and that there is a plan (even if he takes 2B from him to start something for himself). But then he starts "you're corrupt, and evil and would do things I wouldn't yada yada bla bla". And at that instant he loses Logan, becuase he is "talking about things he doesn't understand". That is basically a form of Logan saying, "don't judge me without looking at yourself first". He says he's a good guy and that he doesn't want to be like Logan, and then Logan reacts by treating Kendall the way his Aunt and Uncle treated him about Rose, just using that waiter kid instead. This is my personal favorite scene in the entire series. You never see Logan and Kendall so raw, and this is maybe Logan at his absolute lowest. Bringing up the accident he knows haunts his son. This is what narcissists commonly do. They emotionally abuse those closest to them to see if they'll come running back. People these days call it gaslighting. It's not only to maintain power in the relationship, but some twisted way to see if this person truly loves them. They'll do anything shy of killing said person to see if they come running back. This scene is just incredible, and really illustrates how complex Logan Roy is. I do genuinely think he loved his children. But he's clearly experienced enough cruelty and brutality in his life to convince him that the world is simply a cruel and brutal place; and that it's every man for himself. As Kendall points out, he uses this cynical view of life and human beings to make his money; but he wouldn't be a success if there wasn't some truth to it. And as much as he loves his kids, I think he's continuously disappointed and frustrated at their naivety to not see the world in this way; and also their hypocrisy since they're all as amoral as he is, and yet they constantly call him a monster. He still sees them all as children that simply dont 'get it'. They’re not ‘serious people’.

i gotta say rewatching this in 2023- i used to see Logan as torturing Kendall, the line about keeping him around, and it is part torture, but also i think Logan is trying to push Kendall, to be like him. Be a killer. he wants Kendall to rise up to his level. Logan cant do that like i a normal person with positive reinforcement, he has to try to break down so you'll come back harder. hes a monster of course.

This was the strongest Kendall had ever been in the series, where he realises both this strength as having a more wholesome moral center than his father, and his weakness in not being able to match Logan's ruthlessness. I don't think Kendall was ever as strong as he was in this scene, and we all know it was all downhill for him from this point on.
