Flint was always my favorite gijoe as a kid growing up in the 80s
@user-si9fx4xb6v4 жыл бұрын
Me too, even thought it would 20 years before I had him in my collection. I always thought he looked cool with the camouflaged pants and black jacket topped of with the beret. Plus the bandoliers for his shotgun shells added to his mystique for me. His shotgun and backpack are some of my favorite accessories to this day. I liked how in both the cartoon series and the comic books he was a leader on the various missions. While I don't consider myself a leader type, if I could be one Flint is how I would want to be. Lastly, the first comic book convention I ever attended, I cosplayed as Flint and I had a great time.

Flint was the 1st action figure I got from the 1985 line and was the catalyst for my personal sea-change in childhood to focus my toy collection on G.I. Joe. As far as the eternal struggle between who's better between Duke & Flint, I deffer to the G.I. Joe issue #37 where it is strongly implied that Duke & Flint, and possibly Roadblock too, know each other from a previous Army unit, and that Duke might have had a roll in Flint's transfer to G.I. Joe. They were Army buddies and didn't need to outdo each other. I picked up on this as a kid that other than shoulder rank that the two really respected each other. I like Flint better though.

@dmore4544 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Olortegui I kind of look at it like the way you would look at co-workers: Snake Eyes is the coolest, I'll agree (his Commando get-ups are underrated in my opinion compared to the uber popular ninja versions) and he's the dude you hope gets put on your team because he gets shit done and makes less work for everyone without being a chore or getting in anybody's way, but I don't know how much I'd want to hang out with him outside of work. Flint's got that kind of charisma that you want to be on his team because you know you'll get shit done and you'll have a blast doing it because Flint is fun to be around and tells the best stories, he's the co-worker you want be friends with outside work - like the dude has amazing best-man-at-your-wedding potential. Duke, on the other hand... well, you can make small talk with him around the water cooler in short bursts and you know his teams do a decent job getting shit done - but having to spend the whole day around that big, dull dud of a personality seems like enough extra work you'd rather end up on whatever shit show team Shipwreck is running even though he's not certified to be a TL (hence why its a shit show, but one of the actual TLs called in sick and Hawk always bends the rules so Shipwreck can be the fill-in guy...) because if there's at least one thing Shipwreck knows how to do, it's shoot the shit.

maybe this is because of the cartoon (as i did not have any exposure to the comics) but duke's leadership is never questioned. duke is leader of the joes in my book...plain and simple. That being said...Flint is superior to duke in every way possible and its not even close. Flint is a top 10-15 figure in my book while duke is mid tier at best. in the cartoon flint OUTSHINES duke. Flint is nothing but pure badass-ness distilled. as far as COC is concerned...i always viewed duke as the leader way behind the frontlines...giving orders and missions but from a glass tower...apart from the battle front units. Flint was the second in command that had the respect of the grunts/joes and was the leader ACTUALLY on the field...Duke was the leader chosen by the administrators...while flint was the operational leader chosen by his fellow soldiers. Normally i would have been critical of such sparse accessories...but somehow...a shotgun and backpack fit flint perfectly.

I was reared on the "Action Force" cartoon. There, Flint had an English accent and Lady Jaye had an Irish one. The file cards for Action Force/GI Joe sold in the UK and Ireland were tailored to match these origins. It was quite a shock to discover, in recent years, that both were American in the American continuity!
@KatchouroBlade7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, our Flint was called David and was born in Lincoln. Action Force comics Flint was a hard boiled bad ass, his feud with Destro was intense.

Not mentioned here is that Flint and Lady Jaye have a daughter named Marissa Faireborn. She appears in numerous Transformers media, including the original cartoon, which was contemporaneous with the G.I. Joe cartoon, produced by the same studio.
@user-si9fx4xb6v4 жыл бұрын
Indeed, an older version of Flint appears in the Transformers episode "The Killing Jar" from season 3 where he speaks to his daughter. Additionally, the third season episode "Only Human" features an older Cobra Commander (referred to as Old Snake in the spoken dialogue) and the return of the Synthoid technology from the first season of G.I. Joe. Most notable is the last scene where Old Snake attempts to do the Cobra battle cry and then goes into a coughing fit.

Flint, as a ranger, special forces, and piloting training would be the pilot for a special forces helicopter squadron. He would be the guy that inserted, and picked up LRRP, Tiger Force, and SOG teams. Wild BIll is the supporting gun ship. Lift Ticket would be used in bigger operations. General Hawk is the best leader. Touch of Old school WW2 officer with a dash of Vietnam vet. Duke is the NCO that keeps every thing together, he is the top sergeant after all. Flint is the guy that leads a part of the team in the field.

Yeah, I love that scene. Roadblock: Why don't you take her, Bazooka? Bazooka: No way! Lady Jaye: You sure know how to keep a girl single. Flint: That's right, she sees right through me! Also love the scene in that episode where Flint takes out the Cobra robots to save Lady Jaye, and the moment when he dives just as Cobra Commander fires at him, and the lasers hit the robots instead. Flint looks up and then says sarcastically, "Nice shooting, Commander!" I love Flint. :)

the whole g.i. joe rank chain on command thing made absolutely no sense. Flint according to his file card is a warrant officer, however his grade was E-6 which is a Staff Sergeant. Snake Eyes eventually became an E-7, so he along with Gung-Ho, Stalker, who also became an E-7, and many others outrank Flint and Beachhead. Not to mention all the officers do too. (O-1 through O-10)

I'm watching this review for the third or fourth time... amazing work, Hooded Cobra Commander! I would like to share with you the perspective about Flint outside the USA. As far as I can remember, between kids in Brazil who collected G.I.Joe in late 80's and beggining of the 90's, Flint was the MAN, side by side with 80's characters as Rambo or John Matrix, because of his absolutely badass design, and his leadership in almost every episode of first season of Sunbow's cartoon. We used to underrate Duke when compared to Flint. Besides, his code name in Brazil was "Muralha", a very strong name (literally "Wall", but semantically it's the portuguese equivalent to "Flint" or "Rock", so it means a very tough and invincible guy).

Yes, prior to 2002 Army Rangers wore black berets as part of their uniforms.
