I wanna tell fans HOW IMPORTANT HCC788 Comic Recaps are and give away alittle secret .. LOL ... As some of you know, I do the same with the IDW Run of ARAH. As a result about 1/2 my time is "researching" in the Marvel run. I often reread the Marvel issue in my collection and than watch our good friend HCC788's recap. It really helps "refresh" and gather my recollection, so that I am able to rely to viewers what is currently going on in the most recent issue... I don't think people realize how amazing HCC788 is doing this as we often think of his toy reviews 1st; but his ability to recap those iconic issues is really really good. IF interested in the Marvel Run, its best to not go around chasing down the old Marvel issues really isn't cost effective, instead check IDW's GIJoe Classic Volumes ( you get 10 Marvel issues per volume) .. also IDW have been releasing special issues that contains KEY issues If your interested to learn more about them, i did a few recaps. Lastly issue 31 isnt really a "key" issue meaning monetary but its such an Amazing action packed issue that is soo good.. the art, the story, the action. It is definitely a MUST have issue to a true fan. :) great videos as always

I suspect this issue is the reason Snake-Eyes got the rubber mask in the first place. I think maybe Ron didn't know SE was supposed to be disfigured, and referred back to the origin issues to see his unmasked appearance. The rubber mask is what Larry came up with to correct the error. I don't believe that the rubber mask is established until the issue where SE fights Fred II/Wade Collins on the ferry. If I HAD to guess as to why SE was wearing it in complete solitude, my theory is he had just gotten it, and was trying it out for the first time. Like, seeing if he'd be comfortable with it before wearing it in public. One other thing, remember how at General Flagg's funeral, he was wearing the v1 mask, with a green beret and his dress uniform? I thought that was a cool look.

Somewhat surprised at how much you like Rod Whigham but I do agree that he has a very clean, workmanlike storytelling style and presents the characters very accurately.

The Mercedes redone with Cobra badging is such a beautiful and even subtle (for GI Joe) detail. Whigham is an amazing artist

This is one of my favorite issues of G.I. Joe! Absolutely brilliant! I had been a comic book fan for several years, but only occasionally read G.I. Joe. After reading this issue I subscribed to G.I. Joe! I renewed my subscription for several years, up until about issue 120. But it was issue 31 that cemented G.I. Joe as a must read comic book for the 80s

This was the first issue of GI Joe I ever read. I eventually did mange to get back issues and reprints to get the whole story, but this is what hooked me, and made the comics continuity "my" GI Joe.

Easily one of the best issues of the entire series and Whigham is awesome. It's also one of the few, maybe only, issues where Firefly is used properly with the picture of him on the room epitomizing all he could and should have been in the comics.

Great review! This is one of my Top 10 favorite issues of the original series. The shootout at Snake Eyes' cabin is an all-time great action sequence with the characters acting competently and cleverly. And as you pointed out, Snake Eyes is not the invincible super ninja god in this issue. He's overwhelmed by Destro and Firefly and badly wounded, but for the timely save of his pet wolf. This issue also made me love Spirit and Airborne. I would dare to say wounding Firefly is the highpoint of Airborne's career across all media.

Loved how they had three of my top ten Joe's in this comic, Spirit and Airborne should've worked together often, but just like they did in the goofy cartoon, when they never had Snake-eyes or Stormshadow in the same episode, at least the comic had the awesome Joe's together.

Hasbro always tries to pair Destro with a "Laser pistol." The comic typically had him with a Broomhandle Mauser- as seen here complete with the stock accessory. Hasbro and company- face it- Destro's number one sidearm seems to be a Mauser. maybe something to explore in a storyline- is it sentimental? Did it belong to the Kaiser? Maybe it's serial number 0000001. Now Destro is an arms dealer an as such could have the coolest and "bestest" out there. He could have that cool futuristic weapon carried by Brick in Anchorman 2 (MARS probably created that, anyway) and yet this is his trusty go-to. It honestly made Destro the coolest non-Joe in my mind. Sure, Storm Shadow can kill you quietly. Destro can pay someone to do it for him and with cool gadgets. Kind of the evil Bruce Wayne,
