Great classic mid 2010s BNSF action! Loved the old yellowbonnets especially that trio of them! Chances are today at least one of those got repainted. Let’s also not forget the H2 and Executive SD70MACs! I was surprised to see one of the old MACs leading as normally they’re only used as DPU helpers and are mostly seen on coal drags. Main reason we normally don’t see them lead is because they aren’t PTC(Positive Train Control) equipped. Same is also the case with the MACe rebuilds.

Hi, Alik! Thanks for watching! Yes...sadly, all of those old Santa Fe units have been repainted. It was cool seeing that solid set of ATSF power for several years. The same engines still power this local train, but they were all dipped in orange a while back. I also miss seeing all the MACs. We still see them occasionally...but, yes- rarely in the lead.

@The Main Track Even though some of those Ex ATSFs have been scrapped unfortunately, or repainted and or rebuilt, I’m still happy to know they are still being used. Many even get to keep their original numbers! For me, as long as a unit can still work, is reliable enough and can be rebuilt/refurbished for continued use, I’d have it used for as long as it can keep going. Because I’d hate to get rid of just about any unit especially EMDs. I’m glad BNSF still has most of their SD70MACs both Executive and H2 ones, even the MACes. They might be starting to age now but I think they can still go for a much longer time as long as they’re willing to put in the money. Even if they repaint any of them, I’ll be alright with it as I really like BNSF pumpkin orange honestly. But we will always like H2 and Executive paint better in the end.

I grew up in Marshfield, Mo. 20 miles east of Springfield on the Cuba sub, it was the Frisco then. I spent my days pestering the station master, he was pretty congenial to a young boy. It may have been that my grandfather was an REA agent on the Rock Island in Wewoka, OK. I loved trains then, I love trains now. We had few trains then, just as they have few trains now. Most traffic goes via Memphis. Thank you for your channel, it may not be red & white but it is still the Frisco.

Top quality video . Really enjoyed watching a pro quality effort . Could you show more signaling changes as the trains move from block to block ?? We fans like that little bonus that most video shooters don't bother including . Thanks 👍 from your fans in the Great White North .

I appreciate that, Don! I will definitely make sure to keep my eye out and add some bonuses like that!

That was a long local ive ever seen, No Locals never have so many cars
@MainTrack5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a pretty long local! It's only about a 40-mile run. Most of the cars seen were picked up from two connecting shortlines- the Arkansas & Missouri at Monett and the Missouri & Northern Arkansas at Aurora. During certain times of the year, the trains are quite long as you see. But, on the weekends, I've seen as few as three or four cars. Thanks for watching!

John Losh , it's a shame they' had to closed it. As a native of the Ozarks, it was one of the easiest spots to watch lots of trains.

What's the best way to get to this spot from Hwy 65?

Nichols junction is just off chestnut expressway on the west side of town. Take Meteor street to the junction.

Awesome videos! I've been to almost all of those crossings as well. I saw you have seen BNSF #195 as well! I see it a lot at Catalpa. I wish the Macs weren't all being stored away. Do you think there's any chan e we could meet up at a Railfanning spot this spring or summer? Like Nichols Junction or Turners something like that.
@MainTrack8 жыл бұрын
+BNSFguy 617 Thank you!! Have you seen the dead line of MAC's at the yards? That's an unfortunate sight to see. They are starting to get up there in age. I do like the SD70ACe units that are replacing the older locos like the MACs. I am sure we will run into each other sometime this spring or summer! We're planning to get out more in the coming months now that it's warming back up!!

Great video Mike! A lot of cool catches! All those SD70MAC's were awesome, nowadays most are in storage & I never see them on Scherer coal trains anymore.
@MainTrack8 жыл бұрын
+Norfolk Southern ES44AC -- Yes...I now wish I would've got more videos of them. Here at the yards in Springfield, BNSF has a long line of them stored dead. I do like the new SD70ACe units, though. I suppose that's progress. Funny thing, I remember when the SD70MACs came out years ago when I was a teenager...I simply didn't like the look of them. Funny how perspectives and opinions change over the years. Ha!

This my new favorite train watching KZbin channel! These videos are shot and produced exceptionally well. I'm an engineer for Hartman & Co., and the Nichols Jct. is just west of our Nichols St facilities. So I'm over that way quite a bit, but usually to busy to wait around to "foam" over trains (but I'm not above it:).

Does that local train with the Santa Fe units usually run often?
@MainTrack8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, it usually runs every day between Springfield and Monett. Oftentimes, it will be a solid set of at least three Santa Fe units. It's just like old times! Ha.
@AntonioRailfanning21828 жыл бұрын
+Locomotive Mike Thanks man! I'll probably be heading up there sometime during next weekend

Where is this location specifically? I may be in Springfield this weekend, looking for good spots
@MainTrack7 жыл бұрын
This us located in the northwestern portion of the city. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the area. But, the area around the junction is bounded by Division St. on the north; Chestnut St. on the south; I-44 on the west; and Meteor St.. on the east. I have included a GoogleMaps link. I hope that helps! Saturday mornings are busy, but traffic tends to slow down in the afternoon and evening. Sunday mornings are slow, but things usually pick back up in the afternoon and evening. www.google.com/maps/@37.2188042,-93.3699055,15z
