Transcript: ON IF HE EXPECTS TO PLAY THIS SEASON: “Heavy hitter right out of the gate. I definitely expect to be back and playing. I don’t know when exactly but sometime in the early spring. It’s just a matter of the rehab process. I’ve never really broken anything or had a hand injury or anything like that before. We’ve gone through examinations and stuff like that. Surgery was required to even have a chance of healing properly. It’s a tough blow, but we will measure the rehab process and see how the rest of the year looks like. I’m excited to return this season and get back out there.” ON DAMAGE OF THE INJURY AND NERVES IN HAND: “With surgery there’s always potential for nerves to be irritated. I had a little bit of that. That’s kinda why it took so long for the diagnosis because I had to go through so many tests . With nerves it’s kind of tricky, I can either come back quickly or be out a sustainable amount of time with the surgery and swelling of the injury. We will monitor it as we go through this process. Obviously when you’re dealing with hands, that’s where it gets tricky in terms of your feel and all of that.” ON ALL OF THE INJURIES THIS SEASON: “I mean it’s tough. Every year there’s always guys that go down, but I don’t know if it’s more than years past. But obviously you want to be in a league where everyone is healthy and each team gives you the best shot every single night. When that doesn’t happen and it happens to you or you’re a fan of the league it’s tough. Obviously it’s a part of the game, but I think at some point everybody goes through a little something, whether it’s short term or long-term injury. But you just have to keep your head up and be as positive as you can in terms of how you interact with the team. As a fan of the league and watching the games, you want to see the best of the best playing and it’s tough when you aren’t available because of injuries. The list is long in terms of names. It’s tough but we will all be back.” ON WHAT HE’S SEEN WITH THE TEAM SO FAR: “I just love the fight in terms of, I think coach (Steve) Kerr mentioned it, we’re not going to just be okay with losing or whatever the narrative is. We are going out there every single night to fight and compete. If you keep the right mentality and perspective, I think it’s the best thing in the world to come into a situation for a young player to come in and get the opportunity to just play every single night. Just to get thrown into the fire and getting to play is good. We just have to stay positive and you learn so much through these experiences, especially when I was a rookie when we had nothing to play for and when we looked at the standings and were only playing for Don Nelson’s record. But every night it was always how can we get better and take a step in the right direction.” ON ERIC PASCHALL AND THE YOUNG PLAYERS: “A lot of potential and they are showing it right now. Eric in terms of his composure and presence on the floor, obviously when he gets it going he’s demonstrative and he knows he belongs and knows what he has to offer. It’s an energy that is contagious on the floor. Obviously what D-Lo (D’Angelo Russell) is doing is unreal in terms of his output and putting the ball in the basket and putting pressure on the defense every single possession. And even a guy like Jordan (Poole) offensively he wants to shoot the ball, but we get the little things that he is trying to do defensively and just competing, making the right play, and keeping it simple. All of those things and keeping in mind the bright spots allows this team to build. It’s gonna be fun. Just watching Omari’s (Spellman) energy off the bench, Ky (Bowman) doesn’t look like a rookie out there. So everybody is showing what they can do out there. It should be fun to watch.”
