It was a moment where you can use R2 L2 buttons, the game (volgin) hurts you by script activated in specific time of the dialogue. R2 L2 buttons pauses the gameplay not sound effects. The script fo hurting snake was activated but it didn't did any damage because it's part of a gameplay which was paused.

Why does it seem like absolutely everyone hated the fight with The End? It was my favorite boss fight in the game, and it only took me like 15-20 minutes to beat him.

Never died against him but I really took like an hour to beat him I guess. Basically, I crawled the whole Boss fight searching for all sniping points and I eventually found him. First time I killed him, second time I tranquilized him and, got Mosin Nagant and his awesome camo. I like how there are multiple ways to fight him. I enjoy this fight
