Nice video of the locs but you really need to not zoom in and out so much focu on more of the details in and around the locs. Your video is all over the place.

If the eastbound autorack train, which you mentioned in the description, was heading on the B&A, it would be CSX Q264, which goes to East Brookfield, MA. I believe Q264's point of origin is Collinwood (Cleveland), OH. Selkirk is just a crew change point. I believe all crews that run the B&A have Selkirk as their home terminal, all trains going on to or coming off of the B&A, go through a crew change at Selkirk. I could be wrong, though. However, I think only the manifests on the B&A originate and terminate at Selkirk, I think the other trains (intermodal, autorack, and rare ethanol trains), originate and terminate farther away (like Chicago, Cleveland, or Columbus, OH.).

Going by a pic I found on rrpicturearchives, that EB auto train was Q268 which terminates in New Jersey, so it would be for the River Sub. Yes you are correct that the manifests that operate on the B&A all originate/terminate in Selkirk and the intermodals originate/terminate west of New York. From what I have seen, these days Q264 usually arrives from the Mohawk between late afternoon and after sunset, almost always swaps power for the typical B&A style ES44AH - Other GE - ES44AH lashup and departs Selkirk for the B&A around sunrise or a bit before, arriving in East Brookfield mid to late morning. Thanks for watching BTW! More New York vids coming soon from my trip this past August!

Now I certainly know that this isn't the smartest idea, but I've walked the railroad bridge in the beginning of the video. I only live about 12 minutes from the bridge, and 25 minutes from Selkirk. But that bridge has 2 tracks, and seeing a train on that bridge is just simply incredible!

So much cool stuff in this vid. From the BNSF/CSX light power, to the rarely seen (in PAR country) CSX GP40s and slugs switching, to the SD40MAC, to the SD70M, to the shear number of locomotives… this is awesome. Nice work.

Awesome video and action!!! I've only been to Selkirk once, and it's definitely a railfan's dream place! I railfanned Selkirk from Ben's Bridge, over the engine shop. Unforunately, I hear Ben's Bridge is about to be, if not already, demolished. I guess railfans won't have much access to Selkirk anymore :(. Also, what time did Q437 arrive in Selkirk?
@drc9308 жыл бұрын
+Mike Walsh Thanks! Yeah that sucks about Ben's Bridge. There are two overpasses, one at the very north end of the yard and one at the very south end of the yard, and a public road that you can see part of the engine facility from. (The road that the Ben's Bridge road connected to.) But yeah, definitely not the same. Q437 arrived about 1 in the afternoon, but in summer 2014 I read that freights on the B&A were really off from their regular times so I think Q437 typically arrives Selkirk much earlier, if not pre-dawn.
@mattwalsh63478 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! Good to know there are still some places that the yard can be viewed from! Thanks for the info! As for Q437, that is a very strange time for them to be arriving in Selkirk. They are currently a overnight job (have been for some time). They typically begin doubling up in Framingham around 6 or 6:30 p.m., and usually depart Framingham 9:30-10:00 p.m., so I would guess they arrive in Selkirk around 4 a.m., if all goes well. On Saturdays they leave Framingham much earlier, like 2 p.m.ish and Sunday sometimes they don't even have a train, and it's just light power. My thought is maybe this was an outlawed Q437, that a recrew was bringing back to Selkirk. As you said, the schedules change all the time, so it could have been done differently back in 2014. I was recently railfanning in Fonda, NY, and I saw a CSX manifest with 212 cars!!! The trains (especially the manifests) have significantly increased in size just within the past few months out in Amsterdam/Fonda, NY. If you haven't been out that way recently, just wanted to let you know. Unfortunately there haven't been any increases in train size here in Massachusetts. Also, National Train Day is on Sat. May 14.

I'm hoping to railfan the B&A at least once this summer and probably Selkirk and the Mohawk Sub. later toward the fall! It's nice to take a break from Pan Am once in a while lol!

I read somewhere that Q436/Q437 are only 5 days a week now. That is unfortunate if it is true. I consider the branch lines east of Worcester unique in that they are the only CSX operated branch lines in New England other than in areas around Cedar Hill Yard. I hope business improves for them!
@mattwalsh63478 жыл бұрын
It would make sense that they only run 5 days a week, because typically there are hardly any cars for them on the weekend, from what I have seen. By branch lines, are you referring to the Framingham Secondary? Because, if anything, business is not improving at all unfortunately. CSX has just abolished two of their locals, and lost a few customers down here. I hear they eventually only want to operate as Far East as Worcester, and give everything east of Worcester, Framingham included, to shortlines. Just a rumor right now, but I have a feeling that will happen.
