HD Soviet October Revolution Parade, 1974 Парад 7 Ноября

This is the parade on Moscow's Red Square devoted to the 57th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, 7 November 1974. This parade is notable for being the last to feature heavy nuclear missiles on parade, as well as tanks and tracked armor. There would also be no demonstration of workers this year due to the rainy weather. Taking the salute is Minister of Defense, Marshal of the Soviet Union Andrei Grechko. Commanding the parade is commander of the Moscow Military District, Colonel General Vladimir Govorov. Music performed by the Combined Orchestra of the Moscow Garrison conducted by Major General Nikolai Nazarov.

I just realized, the three men on the tribune are all ethnic Ukrainians born in what would've have been modern day Ukraine. The man giving the speech is Andrei Grechko , Marshall of the Soviet Union. The man standing to his right is Nikolai Podgorny , President of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, he is also an Ethnic Ukrainian and was born in the region of modern day Ukraine. And most importantly, Leonid Brezhnev, the second longest leader of the Soviet Union. He is also an ethnic Ukrainian, so I'm pretty anyone who thinks Ukrainians were suppressed or were targeted by "Russian" domination should really learn history, because Ukrainians held some very important roles in the government. Not to mention, the speaker (Nikolai Podgorny ) continuously pronounces the letter "Г" in every word as "Heh" even though he is speaking Russian. This is because Ukrainians often forget to pronounce "Г" as Ghe, and instead they pronounce it in the Ukrainian way as "Heh"

I'm almost 70 years old and grew up in socialist Poland where we had the same problem: most of the political elites long forgot the socialist cause - they conspired with the western spies and emissaries to change the system and make money in the process so they helped to privatize the wealth of the nation and sold it to the western "investors" - today Polish people work mostly for the western or asian companies and the profit of their works goes to western capitals but the political "patriotic" elites get their cut. It is funny that the Socialist Poland didn't celebrate independence day but today when most of Polish industry, land and finances belongs to western investors the biggest political event in the country is the celebration of Independence Day:) Poland has Kwasniewski who in the 70s was a socialist Polish youth movement secretary but after 89 became the two times president of capitalist Poland and today is a very rich man who worked among others on the directors board of Burisma gas company in Ukraine together with Biden's son Hunter for $80K a month... you must really know something about gas - lighting to get such a job. I consider Gorbatchev the biggest traitor of humanity even worse than Judas Iscariot and blame the current war in Ukraine and tens of thousand of young men who died in the war on him.

Jonathon Walker after this parade, not sure exactly, but maybe it had something to do with Detente between the US & USSR and slightly warmer relations in the mid-70s, so maybe they stopped the heavy nuclear weapons as some kind of token gesture. Interestingly in both 1975 and 1976 there are also no heavy tanks in those parades. But the tanks came back in 1977 and remained.

It had nothing to do with detente. The 1st secretary of the Moscow Gorkom, Viktor Grishin, complained to the rest of the Politburo that the heaviest vehicles were tearing up the pavement every year and straining the city budget. Since he was a client and close friend of Brezhnev, they stopped including them in parades from here on. By the time he was forced to retire, Gorbachev was General Secretary and nobody had any interest in reviving the practice, in spite of the worsened international climate.

Я помню этот мир, утраченный мной с детства, Как сон непонятый и прерванный, как бред… Я берегу его - единое наследство Мной пережитых и забытых лет. Я помню формы, звуки, запах… О! и запах! Амбары темные, огромные кули, Подвалы под полом, в грудях земли, Со сходами, припрятанными в трапах, Картинки в рамочках на выцветшей стене, Старинные скамьи и прочные конторки, Сквозь пыльное окно какой-то свет незоркий, Лежащий без теней в ленивой тишине, И запах надо всем, нежалящие когти Вонзающий в мечты, в желанья, в речь, во все! Быть может, выросший в веревках или дегте Иль вползший, как змея, в безлюдное жилье, Но царствующий здесь над всем житейским складом, Проникший все насквозь, держащий все в себе! О, позабытый мир! и я дышал тем ядом, И я причастен был твоей судьбе! Я помню: за окном, за дверью с хриплым блоком Был плоский и глухой, всегда нечистый двор. Стеной и вывеской кончался кругозор (Порой закат блестел на куполе далеком). И этот старый двор всегда был пуст и тих, Как заводь сорная, вся в камышах и тине… Мелькнет монахиня… Купец в поддевке синей… Поспешно пробегут два юрких половых… И снова душный сон всех звуков, красок, линий. Когда въезжал сюда телег тяжелый ряд С самоуверенным и беспощадным скрипом,- И дюжим лошадям, и безобразным кипам, И громким окрикам сам двор казался рад. Шумели молодцы, стуча вскрывались люки, Мелькали руки, пахло кумачом… Но проходил тот час, вновь умирали звуки, Двор застывал во сне, привычном и немом… А под вечер опять мелькали половые, Лениво унося порожние судки… Но поздно… Главы гаснут золотые. Углы - приют теней - темны и глубоки. Уже давно вся жизнь влачится неисправней, Мигают лампы, пахнет керосин… И скоро вынесут на волю, к окнам, ставни, И пропоет замок, и дом заснет - один. Я помню этот мир. И сам я в этом мире Когда-то был как свой, сливался с ним в одно. Я мальчиком глядел в то пыльное окно, У сумрачных весов играл в большие гири И лазил по мешкам в сараях, где темно. Мечтанья детские в те дни уже светлели; Мне снились: рощи пальм, безвестный океан, И тайны полюсов, и бездны подземелий, И дерзкие пути междупланетных стран. Но дряхлый, ветхий мир на все мои химеры Улыбкой отвечал, как ласковый старик. И тихо надо мной - ребенком - ник, Громадный, неподвижный, серый. И что-то было в нем родным и близким мне. Он глухо мне шептал, и понимал его я… И смешивалось все, как в смутном сне: Мечта о неземном и сладкий мир покоя… . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Недавно я прошел знакомым переулком И не узнал заветных мест совсем. Тот, мне знакомый, мир был тускл и нем - Теперь сверкало все, гремело в гуле гулком! Воздвиглись здания из стали и стекла, Дворцы огромные, где вольно бродят взоры… Разрыты навсегда таинственные норы, Бесстрастный свет вошел туда, где жалась мгла. И лица новые, и говор чужд… Все ново! Как сказка смелая - воспоминанья лет! Нет даже и во мне тогдашнего былого, Напрасно я ищу в душе желанный след… В душе все новое, как в городе торговли, И мысли, и мечты, и чаянья, и страх. Я мальчиком мечтал о будущих годах: И вот они пришли… Ну, что же? Я таков ли, Каким желал я быть? Добыл ли я венец? Иль эти здания, все из стекла и стали, Восставшие в душе, как призрачный дворец, Все утоленные восторги и печали, Все это новое - напрасно взяло верх Над миром тем, что мне - столетья завещали, Который был моим, который я отверг!
