With 2023 In The Books, I Look Back At Some of My Favorite Catches. I Didn't Get Trackside Much This Year Due To Work/Etc. However There Were Still Plenty Of Great Moments! Including Finally Finishing The NS Heritage Fleet, When NS8099 Southern Finally Found It's Way In Front Of My Camera! 2024 Is Gonna See Some Big Things Coming To My Channel.

Awesome catches you got in 2023, and I wished I could've seen NS8105, but I was at my aunt's funeral, and I couldn't believe I was so close to seeing UP1988 and I have a question is there a way to see all of the train ids? Because I have no clue what some are. Also, I really want to see Amtrak train so bad

The only way to get a schedule is being a RR employee or knowing someone who is a RR employee. Very late last night (after 1:30am) there was an awesome line-up with MSPAS (UP1943 leader) and the MNLAS (UP1111 leader) being two of them. That SD70ACe railfan is getting info from train crews and should be sharing it with you (like with UP8444 a couple weeks ago). I'm not keeping an eye on it nowadays as to be honest, I've done it all, seen it all type thing. So I won't be providing much info anymore. This area is also getting pretty thick with railfans. Winter here in our area there is zero to little day traffic. UP likes to run everything at night and there is a major slowdown happening right now. Spring/summer is where it's at (as long as this slowdown ends and traffic picks up). The thing about train crews is, if you're able to make friends with one. Constantly bugging them for info will lead to them permanently ignoring you very quickly (just a little heads up there). Also never and I mean never let anyone know where that info came from. That is a job costing thing at RR's. UP RR employees can only get info on UP trains. NS employees can only get info on NS trains. CN employees can only get info on CN trains, etc... I am a former train crew (before you were born lol) and I do know a ton of the guys who run through here. I live in the Junland area. That's why PB to Dudley has been my area for the past 20 years or so. P.s. ID's are constantly changing in this PSR era or railroading. Routing is constantly changing in this PSR era of railroading. Hope all this information helps bud.

@slwvmw Gotcha and I don't ask the RR workers while at the terminal when they drive to through and while there workingon track or working on the signal boxes and etc. I usually sit at when I'm railfaning at. I just want them to do their business, and sometimes they stop and talk to me, and yes, the info did help, and I have some RR crew friends that I have, but all I do is just wait until the trains start going for I can see and film go by

@@TheRailwayProductions A little more info. In the computer system until CP patches or paints the KCS units (updates it's rosters. Those units report ID's). It's still for example KCS4146. Just as CP units are still CP. Kansas City Southern de Mexico units are KCSM. CN units for BCOL, IC, WC, etc., it doesn't matter if they are still in paint or just sub-lettered. Those CN units ID as that former RR (that's CN's way of keeping ownership over that RR's trademark). For example BCOL4650 shows in the computer as BCOL4650, it does not show as CN4650. Patched units such as SP/CNW show as UP because they're UP units with UP numbers. CSX ID is CSXT. Ferromex ID is FXE. Heritage units ID to their respective companies. I.e. CN3008 (IC HU), UP1988 (MKT HU), NS1066 (NYC HU), etc. CN, CSXT, NS, UP, and so on report mark fallen flag RR's on their freight cars as a way to also keep their ownership over that fallen flags trademarks. On paper BCOL (and Conrail is also alive still on paper) is still alive as it's under long-term lease to CN (just another cool little fact lol).

@slwvmw That's good that Conrail is still on the paper, and I've always wanted to see a Conrail locomotive, but there's no telling if there is still some on class 1 railroads and that SD70ACe kid said that he saw a Conrail in its original livery and I was surprised that there was one that was still in service and thanks for the info and I already knew about the stuff that you said and my buddy Ryan I showed him a picture of a UP locomotive and I said that this one had some black spots or something like that and he told me that was a Ex CNW and I had no idea at the time and showed me that one SP unit that used to be 1943 and any time that I see a KCS I just call it KCS and same thing with the Grey ghost units I just call them KCS Grey ghost and what you're talking about KCSM units are in belle scheme too? I know that some of the Grey ghost units are reported as KCSM

@@TheRailwayProductions He might have seen the last conrail in original paint but I'm iffy on that one. It would have been in 2016. The very last conrail unit in original paint was CSXT8865. That was a SD40-2 and it was sold to NRE. They scrapped it in 2016 at Mt Vernon, IL.
