Love love love the cars! They were THE band when I was in high school 78-79, wore their 1st album out. Greg is a sweetheart, always mentions Ben..he's never been forgotten. And Elliot is still one bad ass...I envy anyone who got to see them on this tour. Not the same without Ben (how could it be?) but I'm sure it was one hell of a show! Thanks for the clip!

I agree with all of your comments guys, the cars members problem was always one and the same, and it will go on forever} they were and still are so so so humble, that it is one of the reazons why they werent as high as they dererved to be.

I met Elliot once in Pasadena at a guitar shop on Colorado Blvd that sold a few left handed guitars - I think 1987 or 88 and he was really nice, cool and very normal - he was just sitting there at the counter signed a few and there were only 2 people in the shop - shook his hand and thanked him & The Cars for contributing to my partial hearing loss - he laughed. His solo here is on target.

I had the distinct pleasure of fulfilling an item on my bucket list by getting to see this Cars concert, one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've seen some good ones! I'd heard Ric say that the Cars would never reunite so when they did I was absolutely thrilled. This is definitely one of my favorite Cars songs. I think everyone there felt the absence of Ben Orr. He was such an integral part of this band. I hope the Cars continue writing, recording and touring. The world needs as much good music as it can get because there's not very much being written anymore.

@Chrisedge Nice videos dude. I was at the first show in Seattle. Front row center stage. Our venue was small about 1700 and SRO venue only. It was awesome i was 8 feet from Ric and Elliott. I got killer photos over 100. But security was on anyone recording. Thanks for posting these. I am hoping by the end of this tour the whole show will be here. I see there are 5 from Seattle & you have 2 or 3 different ones. I really like about 5 of the new songs.

Thank you for posting this. The (sequenced) keyboards are mixed way too low . . . I had this same complaint when I saw The New Cars. Those synths need to be in your face! Like they originally were! Oh, and shame on the people who couldn't be bothered to shut the f*ck up and listen to this performance of a classic hit by living legends.

I too had noticed the relative lack of soloing on Move Like This (Oh! HEY! Drop whatever you're doing and GET Jules Shear's album "Healing Bones"! Elliot plays lead on ALL tracks, and does some *wonderful* stuff!) ... I wouldn't be so quick to blame Ocasek. Elliot broke his collarbone or his clavicle or something, which ended The New Cars's lucrative tour. Could be he's not entirely recovered - or maybe even permanently damaged! I hate to think such things, but ...
@flyinwalenda13 жыл бұрын
@TOSportsFan1990 I bet it's their way of a tribute to Ben doing the show like this. Can never replace him so why have someone outside fill-in ? If they can keep it up this way do it ! Sounds great !

When I first heard the song many years ago, I didn't get it. I really love The Cars, but this was never one of my favorites. Now, after so much time has passed, I've really learned to appreciate this tune. And everything about this performance is perfect. From the "tip of the hat" in the intro, to Greg Hawkes amazing performance, to Elliot's flawless solo, and the eruption of applause when he finished. This really made me smile a lot :) Very, very upset they never made it to Florida for this tour, and hoping someone, somewhere has a well produced video of the entire show... but I'm not holding my breath :(

I would find this solo hard to play with Ric Ocasek looking over my shoulder. I would also find this solo hard to play under any other circumstances. Really, it's quite amazing how the whole audience explodes at the climax of Elliot's solo, isn't it? The song might as well be over for much of the audience, it seems.

I always loved Easton as a musician, but I don't understand why his playing is so limited on the new album. I wonder if Ocasek got pissed that the crowd cheered the solo while he started singing again.

Bonus Fun-Fact for you: Did you know that the song "Panorama" has an intro (and middle instrumental) made of a 17 (SEVENTEEN) beat pattern? 16 would be the norm - four bars of 4/4 - but Ric inserts one extra beat. The drums alone stay in 4/4, however, so the drum pattern is backwards on the second and fourth repeats of the pattern. You can listen and count it out for yourself. Obviously, the band was seeking to subvert the rock/pop "formula" and disorient the listener. I find this INSANELY cool!
@planetoftheatheists68589 жыл бұрын
This reunion should have been spectacular. "Soon" is an epic song that could have been on a movie soundtrack that might have made it popular. This whole deal needed a better producing and publicity

Sad to see them age, been 11 yrs after Ben passed. This Band was great in it's time. Love my era!!!!
@BenCulture11 жыл бұрын
You are entirely correct. There is no shame or disrespect in hiring someone to copy Ben's singing. Roger Waters hired Robbie Wyckoff specifically to sing like David Gilmour for The Wall Live tour. And people are LOVING it! Hell, Brian Wilson hired Bruce Johnston to replace ... HIMSELF, when he decided to quit touring! If Kasim Sulton can sing "All Mixed Up" and "Drive" as well as he did, he can sing anything else Ben did! Ben was damn good, but not inimitable or irreplaceable. Oh, well . . . .
@INDLIS5 жыл бұрын
Ben Culture Def Leppard guitarist Phill Collen once had to mimic the guitar playing of their lost band mate Steve Clark (who died of a drug overdose) in order to complete the making of their 5th album Adrenalize. That was before Vivian Campbell (who made his first concert debut with the band at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert of life) officially replaced Clark

@BenCulture11 жыл бұрын
Off time? Not really. Not in an accidental sense. See, the drums and bass are playing a pattern in 5/4 time, but the keyboards, guitar, and singings are repeating a pattern in 4/4 time. This means that the various parts overlap, but don't actually match, except every 20 beats. If you think this sounds wildly complicated and difficult, you're right. I don't know how Ric manages to sing it at all. Or why he composed it that way in the first place! It's disorienting.
