Well, you've got to be able to read a screen of bullets to be able to see where they'll be and then dodge based on that. You'll start looking more and more away from your character the more you play. When you first start out though this is really hard to do though, and it's something you have to figure out through a lot of play. Try playing Phantasmagoria of Flower View, that really helped me out in the beginning.

@crimsonhell1 Pretty close. Bullets are smaller and there's a little less chaos. I never noticed.

@thekillerhjkhjk Yeah, I figured out a much more efficient strategy when I did the pacifist run (since there are some non-changing UFOs, a certain mix is best.)

Check out the date on these videos - I was playing this the day it came out, and since then I've beaten this level pacifist =P It's really just practice, I've played Touhou for about two years.

You have to slowly work your way up to this level of play - I'd been playing the game for something like a year and a half going into this =) It's definitely worth trying even if you find expert videos overwhelming.

Kogasa's last spell card is like a Wheel of Fortune; if a lazer stops at your position, there's too little time to react X_x

Then you can still survive more with collecting green UFOs, altough you have to be a deathbomb master to be utilizing it really effectively.

Kogasa's first spell reminded me of Eirin, second of Yuugi, and third of a sped up version of Satori's original spellcard (non-memorized). Good character, still need to look up what the heck she's doing as an EX-stage midboss. =P Can't wait until some remixes of these UFO themes start coming out~! ^^

KZbin actually lowers the FPS a bit - at 60fps there's just enough time to twitch out of the way. Takes some getting used to, it pissed me off quite a bit the first few times I fought it =)

@BitchOfShadowHatter Haha, yeah, shoot-em-ups are definitely an old genre. Touhou takes it to a new level, though, it's got its own unique play style and fantastic pattern designs which have gotten people hooked worldwide.

I'm not quite sure about the story, but I did know that Nue used to be underground and has similar abilities to Satori.... Well, who knows. This game definitely did give the fanbase some good new material though =)

you should get green UFO's, not red. greens give bombs, which can be used to save yourself. (you know that already though) and give a max of 2 per summon, which is much more efficient than reds
