I wish Sam Peckinpah's initial two-and-a-half hour version existed before they fired him and edited down to 90 minutes but at this point I'm pretty positive any existing footage from this movie has long been thrown out or destroyed. Studios did not hold onto extra reels like they do now since most everything is digital and I'm not even sure if they still use actual 35mm film cameras anymore

High end had "side bands" channels between normal channels so a 40 channel could have 120 channels. But very few had side band CB. If you were not around then, they were kind of like a cell phone, but you could only talk to people close to you. Channel 19 was a channel people kept tuned to.
@olegdivov
@olegdivov 3 жыл бұрын

@@Lionn8563 At the time (late 70s) it was a nationwide fad with new lingo, music and movies like Smokey and the Bandit and Convoy. It was, to most non-truckers, a novel way to fight back against the new 55 mph speed limit and the scourge of radar. There was a boom in the radar detector market. And it introduced a lot of drivers to the American big truck culture. My long distance driving days are over and the interstates are so crammed now compared to the 70s that cross-talk with endless columns of 18 wheelers seems pointless.

Ali MacGraw in the thumbnail of this video is just gorgeous. (2023 Edit: Just noticed the thumbnail has now been updated to Rubber Duck 😂 Well it used to be Ali as she appears in Raphael’s Silver Cloud, shortly before the fight breaks out. LOL)

No doubt!!! Had to watch the movie on my Roku! Good cast and of course Ali graces her beautiful self all over that screen!! Forgot Sam Peckinpah directed that flick. Been awhile since I saw it which was probably at a movie theater.

The whole CB Radio thing that this popularised was (to outsiders) hilarious. There was a lad near us who had a radio strapped to his bicycle (motorcycle battery on his rear rack) who took himself very seriously. I used to hitch-hike a lot in the few years after this and lots of truckers were keen to show off their CB gear and 'patter'. Can see it helping to pass long hours behind the wheel.
