Thanks for the information. It was well presented. Could someone explain how to access the HDMI cable diagnostic feature on a x3700h. I tried calling the Denon support line and the support agent i spoke with never heard of this feature. After he talked to a few other staff associates, he stated that this feature was for technician. 😡

He's definitely "protesting too much" on the 40Gbps issue. Way too much since he knows it's a massive weak point, and it's a stop-gap. When future panels are 12bit to fully display 12bit Dolby Vision content, or this year's LGs turn out to be a 1-off and they'll go back to supporting the full 48Gbps like they did last year and Samsung did in the past, people stuck with the 40Gbps limit are going to be sick.
@oniiz8685
@oniiz8685 4 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more, LG have really thrown in a blunder here with their 2020 TV's 40Gbps ports this year, it's quite strange that Sony's X900H model has 2 48Gbps ports & Vizio has also released 48Gbps ports too.

I am not worried about the current TVs. As Phil explained there is no additional value of 48 Gbps in a 10 bit panel. However as mrtickle said it‘s going to become a problem as soon as we get new TV technologies like MicroLED with brightness levels up to 4000 nits because 12 bit will be coming at that point. eARC could be a solution there but I also heard some reports of eARC not working properly on a several devices. I don‘t blame Sound United for not including a 48 Gbps HDMI input because it seems like this was the only thing possible atm (we‘ll see when other HDMI 2.1 AVRs are coming). But I‘m also not fully convinced to buy a new AVR right now. In 1-2 years we might get several HDMI 2.1 inputs with maybe all 48 Gbps. This technology is still at the absolute beginning.

Yeah I think they should have done two HDMI 2.1 inputs. The odds of someone buying both consoles or a console and PC is actually pretty high. Now the odds of someone buying both consoles and a PC is very low. I get we can use eARC to plug the others into the TV, but a lot of folks have their TV or Projector mounted away from other devices. I might get it this year since I only use a PC, but I can see why a lot of folks are annoyed about it.

@@alexandsimba Definately a bit of a let down that they only include 1. We are in that boat where we will be getting both the Xbox Series X and PS5. Having to upload and switch cable is not something that we want to do...Only other option is to keep waiting until one of these manufacturers is ready to give us 7.2.4 along with several HDMI 2.1 ports (at least 2 or 3)

Especially after touting that it's a HDMI matrix. Doesn't feel like much of a matrix if you only have one HDMI 2.1 in and it can only go to a limited number of outs. I know I wouldn't buy a standalone 2.1 matrix that only has one 2.1 input and the rest are 2.0. Edit: Would gladly trade 2 inputs for universal 2.1 or an actual usable number of HDMI outs (preferably both).

The Denon AVR-X2700H is suffering from eArc issues using eArc and a games console via eArc and sound mode selection. Not using bitstream, but LPCM. It only happens when the source is eARC (ie internal apps from the TV when eARC is enabled or using a games console via eArc). The Denon app shows Multi-channel PCM input, however, the output options are not the same when receiving multi-channel PCM from an input directly connected to the receiver. When using eArc on my TV connected to the Denon, the denon receives multichannel PCM input from the TV, but when I go to select a sound mode on the receiver, I only have a choice of multichannel stereo, stereo or DSur. Why will it not let me select a sound mode like Multichannel PCM? It should let me output the same format as what the receiver is receiving? Like Input-Multichannel PCM Output-Multichannel PCM. There is a clearly a bug with this receiver, that will not let me output Multichannel PCM as a sound mode over eArc. Input (eARC multi channel PCM): Output (choices are Stereo, DSur, Multi Ch Stereo): Can test this to see if they have been able to get Multichannel PCM sound mode output? Rather than Stereo, DSur, Multichannel stereo? I am sure this is a bug with the latest receivers? And needs fixing via firmware update.

RIght, the "8k" is irrelevant right now, but only allowing one 4k/120 input means the TV has to be the switch, and if that's the case then an old receiver works fine.

Hi. I am looking for some help to decide what to do? I have an old, but very good, Rotel RSP-1098 AV processor connected to two RMB-1066 amplifiers. However, my system lacks HDMI support, Dolby digital Plus, TrueHD and Dolby Atmos. I cannot afford a top Rotel or Marantz up to date processor. So I am not sure if I should look for a HDMI multi-channel DAC with 7.1 analog output to connect to 7.1 analog input of my processor or to replace the RSP-1098 for a Marantz SR-5014 or Yamaha Aventage RX-A880, both in my budget. Any suggestions?

I suggest you live with this Denon for a few weeks and see how you feel.I never had these problems with my older more powerful THX Denon.These recent models are a load of junk.

The nerfed input issue is a no buy for me. Most people with 4K TV's don't have eARC, won't upgrade TV's this soon or have partners capable of changing inputs on multiple devices. I'll wait until there are at least 3 2.1 inputs and likely go Onkyo again.

I'm upgrading an ancient 90s system, and am leaning toward living with the old speakers a while, and the old 1080p TV, so that I can focus on one piece of gear at a time. Thinking this will let me get a higher end AVR for now, then end up with a better system in the long run. I heard some scuttle about the 8k stuff not working as it should or not with all sources... it will be a while before we have a 4K TV , or PS5, or... so I will be totally happy with 4K/60 once we do upgrade. My short list of reciever options tops out with the X2700 amd X3700...but I'm trying to understand the differences between the S960H amd X2700H for now. Could you please tell me how you like your X2700 unit, and what else you're using it with in your system?

@@isaiahfurrow7414 I'm using it with my RTX 3080 as an input currently. I also use a 1080p blu ray player. Ultimately, my TV via earc is the best source. We get lossless Dolby Atmos passthrough and DTS-X, etc. You won't be needing anything more than the 2700X. It allows for greater upgrade paths in the future. I actually have two X2700 amps. Well worth the money. The only device that won't support 4K 120 is the Xbox I believe, with this amp. I think the 3080 and PS5 (unsure) do work.

@@wayneiceman I think I am going to get a cheap 5.1 unit now, so that we can at least have real surround sound .... then focus on getti g really good speakers.... once the 5.1 is totally sorted, then I'm going to save for the 3700 or equivalent, and 4 overhead speakers to move from 5.1 to a 5.1.4 setup... I really think the AVR-X3700H is right at the level where it is really futureproof.... it adds more zone ability, inputs, outputs, preamp outputs, more wattage, etc... so instead of biying a mid level unit now, and then eating that when I eventually upgrade to the big boy toy.... I'm going to biy one of the bottom end 5.1 units to just have real Dolby HD or DTS surround for now, and then when I upgrade to a full on system later I am only out a $200-300 unit that I can pass along to my son or someone in need... by the time I upgrade, they will have the new HDMI version, and such, all sorted out I hope... this also gets me real working surround before my 90s Sony unit totally quits(its been acting up)....and also lets me start working on better speakers sooner rather than later...

Sticking with Yamaha. When the 5300 comes out, buying it. I think it's great that Denon is the first receiver to embrace 8K however, we are at least at a minimum of 10 years out before that even becomes a reality. With this war with China, who knows what's going to happen with audio and home theater equipment. Yamaha has an edge meaning when things get bad with China, they can build everything at home....Japan.

When talking about making the best business decision... it seems completely ridiculous to offer a single HDMI 2.1 8K input on the AVR and two 8K outputs. As if anyone buying AVR's in this price range intend to have two 8K displays in the next 3-4 years. Two 8K inputs and one out would have been the more sound and logical choice considering the people looking at this connection right now are gamer's wanting 4K/120 and there will be three options before the year is out. Shame on Denon and Marantz for not thinking this through. This forces people to buy TV's with multiple HDMI 2.1 inputs which is few this year and they all dropped DTS:X passthru making it impossible to enjoy uncompressed DTS surround through earc. Really muddy and confusing things are right now with home A/V.

Why do you think every TV and almost every Projector has Motion Interpolation built in and activated by default? Most people have probably never seen unfiltered 24p at home. And there have been something like 3 Movies in the last 20 years that actually tried HFR, and the first one, The Hobbit, did it badly, and never released their 48Hz Version for Home Theatre, while the second was a "Special Interest" Movie and the third one was badly made, craptastic Action Movie. So, how are people supposed to know whether they like HFR Movies?

I don’t think 24fps is a preferred movie frame rate, it’s just the defacto choice, those slow framerates have so much blurring during the exposure that all the motion is smeared. People don’t prefer 24, That's a myth perpetuated to save face and avoid expensive upgrades. Film is expensive, when you double the frame rate you double the film consumed, ballooning the budget of the film, and the editing process which has more raw footage to deal with. But the real reason 24 has stuck around, is because movie revenues are primarily from theater ticket sales, and if someone were to release a movie with a superior frame rate, many theaters would not be able to show it because they lack the equipment. So it would cut into the profits of the movie makers. Why pay extra to shoot at a higher frame rate if there’s nowhere to show the movie? Why upgrade your theater’s framerate if there are no films at that speed? The whole industry on the theater side and studio side has been caught waiting for the other chicken to be the egg, or maybe it's the other egg to be the chicken... anyway watch any side by side comparison of 24fps and 60fps on youtube and it's obvious that faster frame rates offer a better viewing experience. Covid and Exclusive Original Streaming services are going to create a video-quality arms-race and TV set manufacturers are going to be right in step. Disney+ will likely lead the way and the Rest of Hollywood will follow. As theaters face covid troubles and upgrade cycles, we may see even more go under, and a shift towards home theater. You’d think Apple might try to innovate, but they’re skittish about risking content delay, which is why their FaceTime cameras are all capped at 720p to ensure smoother live video playback. But who knows Starlink is going to be a gamechanger, not to mention 5g.
