I have a 1440p120 VRR monitor that I used for my xbox series s and it worked just fine with my HDMI 2.0 cable. Suddenly when I get a ps5, I can no longer use VRR at all, and I can’t use 1440p unless I’m on 60hz🤡🤡🤡. Now I have to buy a brand new display because the one I have only supports HDMI 2.0 😺. Thanks for the help. Unfortunately for some reason my ps5 hdmi cable failed so I have to find a new hdmi 2.1 cable. The problem with that now is apparently hdmi manufacturers can now label hdmi 2.0 cables as 2.1 since the new regulations include 2.0. Linustechtips talked about this in their videos very recently. To make make sure I get the exact cable I’ll just contact PlayStation and have them send over a new cable to me 😂

None of the games that use 120hz mode are stable 120fps, so it's pretty pointless for that. I believe 2.1 gives you 60/4K though, but again not many games so far next gen are delivering that. But I'm sure as time goes on they will :)

So for xbox the hdmi in box is a 2.1 but its only 18 gigbites per second ..gbs and you can buy a 15$ cable thats 2.1 and hits 48 gbs and that will make anything look better the stock cables are not that good

I feel like this test was pointless. Like you said, the real test would be to test out 120fps games at different resolutions. The 2.1 will allow you to play 120fps at 4k while 2.0 will still allow you to play 4k but only at 60fps. You'd still be able to get 120fps with 2.0 but at 1440p which is still very good. Most TVs however only allow you to display 4k or 1080p. You can utilize the 1440p @ 120fps by getting a 1440p 120Hz gaming monitor with a 2.0 HDMI input. You can get decent ones for like $300

Yes it is necessary for xbox series x and ps5. Of course there's differences. 2.1 has ALLM, supports dynamic HDR, it also supports eARC, VRR. 2.0 supports none of that. It is absolutely necessary to have a tv with hdmi 2.1 to take advantage of these 500 dollar consoles. otherwise what's the point?

Xbox Series S has 2.1 output and can upscale all games to 4k, so even games that play at 1440p native are upscaled if you have a 4k panel.

Yeah it sounds all great but can anyone show me a ps5 game that actually pushes a new game at 4k 120fps? Im not talking about old games upscaled to 4k. I just don't see the benefit.. dude 4k 60hz is 60fps you don't need hdmi 2.1 to do that. HDMI 2.0 pushes 4k 60fps. PS5 is never going to push a game at 8k...which is why it seems like marketing baloney to brag that hdmi 2.1 can push 10k footage.. What youre really upgrading is the ability to have variable frame rate and play some games at 4ofps.... which is kinda lame but yea i guess better than 30fps.

True but with the 2.1 you can play games with fidelity mode up to 60fps unlike with 2.0 hdmi cable you’d only be able to play at 30 max but overall there is not much difference, another possible advantage you can correct me if I’m wrong is that I’m pretty sure you can play games which aren’t 60fps supported on the ps5 like red dead redemption 2 at 60fps with the 2.1 cable because it allows for 4k 120hz or 60hz depending on the Tv/monitor mine is 60hz so when plugging in the 2.1 hdmi cable I noticed my red dead 2 become smoother almost like a constant 60fps but it don’t seems consistent but let me know if I’m wrong would appreciate👍

No, apparently you’ll notice a difference between 60 and 120. Especially in FPS games. I’m stressing about this crap, myself. I just ordered a 43inch 4K HDR 60hz Samsung Q6OA hdmi2.0 for £700 but then I see Samsung Q7 for £1000 and I’m unsure if I should cancel my order and buy the Q7. I honestly think the tv I bought will be great for Ps5. Will do 60fps 4K but like a lot of others, I’m fretting over , how much of a difference hdmi2.1 would make, with SOME games being able to output at 120 FPS. I mean for years, since like 2010 when I bought ps3, all I ever heard on KZbin was people arguing about console shitty 30fps often unlocked and the pc gods boasting about having butter smooth 60fps. Well now I can do 60 FPS 4K and I’m still worried a bit. If I had 2 tv I’m front of me. 1 has hdmi2.0 60 FPS and other is 2.1 120 FPS say with battlefield. Then I would be able to see difference between 60 and 120 and I’ll either have 1 of 2 conclusions. 1 I won’t notice much of a difference and I’ll be happy with my Samsung q6 at 60 4K 2 I’ll notice a huge difference and be annoyed. Saying that, from what I hear, there will be many Ps5 games that won’t even be able to hit 60 4K. I honestly think I’m worrying over nothing and Ps5 on a regular 1080p tv would probably still look and play incredible. Especially for someone used to PlayStation gaming, often at 30fps . I hate choppy framerate but even I was more then happy playing some 30 FPS games. Such as, Driveclub, the order 1886, horizon, god of war, dirt rally, grid, destiny. All these games plus more was 30fps and it felt really smooth to me with very few framedrops that it wasn’t an issue. Is humans are supposed to be so intelligent, yet we still worry over stupid crap 60 vs 120 when 60 will probably be absolutely fine for most. Especially console pheasant like myself. If any1 reads this, should I stick with my Samsung Q6 at £700 or Samsung Q7 for £1000? Q6 is 60 4K Q7 is 120 4K 2.1 hdmi.

I use a Hisense U6g tv for my xbox. All the hdmi ports say 4k@60h but after over-riding settings on my Xbox, it allows me to select 1080p@120fps. The tv also confirms it. I notice better responsiveness when I'm gaming at 120hz but I'm not noticing much of a change visually. I just learned that this may be because my cable is hdmi 2.0. im thinking about buying an hdmi 2.1 cable now but im afraid it may not work at all

No nothing will. You need all three devices to be HDMI 2.1 to get the features. Your PS5, Your TV, and the cable all have to be HDMI 2.1

You can get 4k at 60 on any 4k TV. Seems odd to then use that same config for your 2.1 video. So you switching the cable is pretty pointless. You'll only miss the 444 colour

I don’t understand Sony.. yes 2.1 is better but as far as the ps5 the features ain’t there.. only benefits when used 120hz and not allot of games are 120.. unlike my series x it offers 120 allot more/at all times,vrr,vision,and more .. you can set it at all time to 4k 120fps in settings ..ps5 is set up at 4k 60fps at all times and only goes to 120 of game offers it and there not allot of games using 120 on there and no vrr,no Dolby vision gaming etc.. most TVs with 2.1 port only offers 2 ports for that and 1 of them is a eARC port.. I have both consoles and a Dolby vision soundbar and sub..I can’t use eARC if I want both consoles hooked up to the 2.1.. Ima lose a port if I use my soundbar.. Dolby atmos is amazing but I want both my consoles hooked up to 2.1 of course..but using my ps5 on the 2.1 port really doesn’t benefit correct? I mean it’s 4k 60fps and most tvs can do that nowadays..Unless I’m using 120fps for there games and there really is none..they could of made gran turismo 120 or even elden ring but they keeping them all at 60fps and the 2.1 port doesn’t get used.. would you take out the ps5 and use that port for Dolby atmos? I cam still use my ps5 on my 2.0 port and I have a LG with the extra features for 2.0 port.. what am I losing? I have a 4K 60hz hdmi 2.1 tv, what cable do u think is best for me

I bought an LG OLED tv. (C2). I plugged it into my rtx 3060ti and was getting purple lines across the screen that flickered. If I tried to put on HDR it wouldn’t work. Thought my tv was broken. I called LG and they asked what cable I was using. I told them it was an Xbox series s hdmi cable. They put me on hold and then came back and told me to buy a 48gbps cable. They said an 18gbps won’t work with the tv. Period. If I’m running 4K 120. I didn’t know. Felt dumb. But happy my issue is solved.

Very good video! But I have a question, my monitor is a 2560x1440 and 180 hz (Asus VG27AQL3A) but only comes with a 2.0 port would it be worth it for me to get a hdmi 2.1 cord or no point? I play rainbow six siege which is 120 fps compatible game I’m not necessarily looking for graphics but performance. I WANT that extra 60 fps! Thank you

what if i buy 4k tv with 60hz only but support hdmi 2.1 can I still able to play at 4k@120fps? or just 4k@60fps. I hope someone answer me I'm confused. Thank you in advance.

What is the point of it when games are struggling to even run at 4K 60fps which the hdmi 2.0 is already capable of displaying haha. You think you gona have 4K 120fps and 8k 60fps on the ps5? No chance. This hdmi 2.1 isn’t gona be needed for this generation consoles folks

Tv, not monitor i belive, i have an 1.4 hdmi monitor and works just fine with 120fps

So the cable that comes with the ps5 is hdmi 2.1? My tv says above the hdmi port 2 and 3 that it supports 120@4k But I can only get 4k at 60 fps

HDMI 2.0 is also 4K 60hz hdr capable just not at 4:4:4, but it can do 4K 60hz sdr at full 4:4:4

There is one big fact , there is no Full HDMI 2.1 or HDMI 2 . TV's that supports HDMI 2.1 appeared in 2022. It is hard to digest after spending money but it is reality

I bought my ps5 like 4 months ago and I'm using it on 2.0 tv hmmmm should i change it to 2.1tv? Just to get rid of all the problem and to get everything out of this ps5, I mean do I need to change it though?

Until now why the HDMI came with PS5 only says HIGHSPEED on the cord but still saying 2.1 by most people, although i have some 2.1 hdmi i still used the ps5 cable.
