Great video Carl. My only gripe with speakers etc in general is the fact that you'll never be fully happy you'll always find yourself tweaking them its never ending.

Thanks again for another informative video. I’ve been looking for a good method to get everything dialed in and you delivered. I just wrapped up my calibration but I’m stuck on how to do use this method for the Atmos channels using REW.

I have Atmos sweeps in my description you can download and play on your PC. That's the only way.

Hi Carl - on listening to your extra bit on the end of this video, I noticed your surround measurements and it reminded me of you mentioning the 'Storm Harman' curve for surrounds. I think you'd picked it up online somehow previously - the point was it had a slight raise in the highest trebles which you felt suited surrounds. Did you use it for them it the end? Or, are they the same as all your other speaks?

Hi, I have watched most, if not all, of your videos and have found them to be incredibly helpful. Your videos really enhance the sound of my system, so a big thanks for that. This is the first video where I've had trouble following along. I need clarification on how you achieve zero delays on your center channel. Are you still using OCA full-range sweeps with the reference on the left channel? It seems like there's something relatively simple that I'm missing, but I just can't figure it out. The rest of the video makes perfect sense; I'm just struggling with how you arrive at your starting point.
@hdmoviesourceАй бұрын
I use OCA's sweeps for all channels yeah. Those sweeps have a center channel acoustic timing reference.

Having done the back and forth with MEQ-X I can tell this method is far less annoying and frustrating. I've actually been considering switching to Dirac Live Bass Control on my 6800H now that they reduced the price, but I'm not 100% convinced it will be much better than MEQ-X / MiniDSP. It would be a bummer to spend $600 and wind up preferring Audyssey! Lol

This is exactly my predicament Cafive, I guess the only way to know if the buy unfortunately. Sometime this year I think I'll give it a shot.

@@hdmoviesource I've ran through the process and found it's completely changed the way the my system sounds, stereo output now has a phantom centre and my bass between 2 subs has completely tightened up and as you mentioned during the video all the speakers land at the same time... Thanks for sharing and putting the time into these video ❤ Question. would you say MultEQ-X is good enough not to need a MiniDSP ? My Maranta SR7013 has 2 sub outs...
@hdmoviesource2 ай бұрын
Oh that's great to hear Paul. I'm glad it's helped. I think Mini-DSP is the way to go personally. But, I'm thinking about doing a Mini-DSP vs MQX. I've calibrated with MQX before and it's never sounded as good as a Mini-DSP. So, if you can afford a Mini-DSP 2x4HD I recommeded.
@paulantcliffe9704Ай бұрын
@@hdmoviesource I'm Mac user so I've managed to get my hands on an older Pc which is good enough to talk to MultiEQ-X after I send the file over from the tweaking on my Mac, I've managed to do an ok job on the bass but would you layer another set of EQ within EQ-X as this would give me a almost perfect straight line when I look after the predicted result which I can tilt as you show how to do..... Many Thanks 👍
@hdmoviesourceАй бұрын
@@paulantcliffe9704 You could yeah. I have used MQX to also clean up the bass too. But, MQX doesn't have much resolution in the bass area so, it may still not be perfect.

I recently installed my X3800H and using it and A1 Evo I’ve been dissatisfied and would like to tweak as much as you for as near perfect target curve response as possible Do you think MEQX and a MiniDSP is the most practical way? Or do you think Dirac is a better avenue? I like the idea of “owning” the DSP instead of the license, of course.
@hdmoviesource28 күн бұрын
MiniDSP is better for bass. but MQX is perfect for full range correction.

I’m fairly certain the distance only changes once you move it over the 0.03m threshold. And 0.03m is 1.2 inches which is 0.1ft. I haven’t done extensive testing but I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s doing. I just get it as close as possible in the AVR and then move the speakers a little bit until they’re basically perfect.
@hdmoviesource2 ай бұрын
That's a good idea Chad. I might try that.
@ChadAV692 ай бұрын
I have done it a couple times and it just takes like half an hour. But I don’t know if it really made a difference. What made the biggest difference for me was doing the binaural mic positioning. Mic at left ear position to time align left speakers and mic at right ear position to time align right speakers. Center is measured at middle of head (the usual MLP position). Make it so all left speakers are time aligned to center when mic is in left ear position, then make it so all right speakers are aligned to center when mic is in right ear position.
@hdmoviesource2 ай бұрын
Are there any videos on this method?
@ChadAV692 ай бұрын
@@hdmoviesourcemaybe. Reverend Slim in the magic beans discord told me about it. Pretty sure Joe N Tell does it too with a special binaural mic. It might sound complicated but it’s worth it

Oh I see. I didn't understand what you were asking. Honestly, this is similar to IR aligning, but for me, this method keeps it simplified, it's quick and easy to understanding and it works.

This is a near-field atmos mixing room layout for all intensive purposes. We will all need EMT ribbon tweeter modular arrays in the future. Traditional speaker design will be obsolete in a decade for home theater in 20 + x 15 + foot rooms with 5 + seats and 100" screens.
