Excellent review Vincent. Thank you for your work and objectivity. Obviously there’s no perfect tv out there, but this Philips hits all the marks for me, ambilight, excellent sound, great image, decent motion, hdmi 2.1, VRR&ALLM and the price is quite reasonable for its capabilities. I’ll pull the trigger on the 65 OLED+ 936 Philips. Cheers

I feel philips mislead it's customers, especially since finding out via a message from philips that it will never bring vrr to 936 model. Full 4k120Hz was always working with Monitor mode. Problem was VRR only worked with Game Mode, and that mode halfed the vertical resolution. In Februari 2022 they promised to bring an update with fix for 806 and 706 but to date its still not fixed. But with latest firmware 101.001.003.223 they added VRR to monitor mode. So we finaly have Full 4k120Hz with VRR, but you have to chose Monitor mode. It works with my 706 model, Im not sure about 906

Has the Philips OLED 807 addressed the 2021 models' shortcomings in near-black chrominance overshoot? Currently, the +936 could be had for an attractive discounted price, so it'd also be nice to know if the 4K 120Hz issues in monitor mode have had any improvement to them via software updates etc. (or if it's impossible to fix for the dual processor system)

LG made logo dimming set to high ridiculously more aggressive on CX. I've had it on high and it barely dimmed on games for the year I've had it. Firmware 4.30.40 it's like night and day difference on high when it kicks in, about 5 min. to be fully kicked in. I think the low setting is now equivalent to what high used to be.

Also on Amazon Prime the HDR content is very very dark and over saturated with my 58PUS8535. Looking at the change log for the latest firmware update from last year this might be a known problem with Philips TVs. It mentions this problem to be fixed with the PHILIPS 705 oled TV which had(maybe still has) the same problem. Also when I press the ambilight button on the remote I would love to have all the ambilight settings available not just 75% of the settings. A quick press of the ambilight button to allow me to adjust brightness and saturation of the ambilight.

Vincent, can you check this out with Sony. All the newer Sony A80J/A90J's now have a WP right around x.310 y.322, not the Judd WP. @@Beast-mf7br arr you a console gamers if do then forget about it lol. 95 percent if games have steady locked frames with minor drops that will not creste testing vrr is almost useless on console gaming with the new consoles that is. Not to mention sony game mode isn't limited you have full access to every setting in every mode you can creste the image to look how you want in any way. Wether it be more color less color more brightness less brightness you even can change the black level and use black adjust for further depth in the image. You have full access to all color spaces including Adobe rgb. Also it games fantastically even next to my c9 which has vrr and everything and I never use it anymore lol. I haven't lost a step it's amazing best gaming experience I've had on an oled the extra brightness in the apl really is noticeable and helps that punch out and impact. Not to mention the way they boost the smaller highlights are intense and give a great 3d effect. Just saying if you buy a tv for features like I did for my c9 6 months later you look back and go crao I wanted the better processor I wanted the settings I didn't need vrr as I don't ever notice a difference with it on or off on consoles. I'm happy even with ninkicisn owning an lg he talks about how vrr should be the last thing on your list for gaming. He's absolutely is correct when it comes to consoles gaming which is what most are using there tvs for. Also sony did add the capabilities for it and are proving the uodate is coming with what they have already done and put in place for it. In a month or 2 we will have vrr. But again vrr in general has issues even people talking about the flickering issue on lg but again it's inherent vrr issues. Just sony gets the exposure of issues when people don't realize every led tvs right now with vrr has an issue most don't allow local dimming at least sony is trying to do it with local dimming active on the x85j and 900h. Even lg led tvs have vrr issues. So the oked tvs should work very similoar to the oled tvs from lg regardless it's great hdmi 2.1 full 48gbps meaning the sony will stoll be able to get 4k 120hz @4:4:4 lg can't even do that with its limitations not being fill 48gbps. I'm cool with how it works already the a80j and a90j are amazing and the more classy and KG use them the more they enjoy the hdr performance on them over the lg tvs when it comes to gaming

@@Beast-mf7br I game on my 65" A90J all the time. I don't see the big issue. I don't have a next gen console yet, only ps4 pro and don't pc game. If you just casual game with friends and aren't trying to like make money being a competitive gamer, its a FANTASTIC tv. It'll have VRR soon. Coming from a low tier LG 1080p Roku TV the A90J blows me away all the time. I even noticed quicker reaction times on seeing and aiming down sights compared to my old LED/LCD Tv which is a benefit of any OLED. I also totally agree with the price being as high as it is, it should already have those gaming features. I'd buy it over a CX ANYDAY! So much customization you can do picture wise and the color spaces etc. Playing non HDR games in Adobe RGB color space is just amazing. Then when I play BF5 I put it in BT.2020 for HDR gameplay. You have LIVE COLOR setting to make colors more saturated if you want it that way. Just a lot of stuff you can tweak and really personalize it to each individuals tastes.

For a 48/50 inch TV, how does the Philips 936 fare? Versus the Sony/LG equivalents or Samsung QN94? The A90J flagship for instance is 55 inch or above only.
@olgil3 жыл бұрын
Philips is the "cosiest" TV. It looks lovely, Ambilight is a really neat feature and the sound is great on the 936. Sony is the most authentic cinematic picture but bare in mind the current 48" is technically a 2 year old model by now. It's still amazing great picture and the acoustic surface works pretty well. LG is probably the best for streaming, it has a nice remote and pretty fast OS. It's also by far the best gaming TV out of the 3 with the most gaming settings and the lowest input lag. It's also the most popular TV out of the 3 and has been tried and tested by so many with very few issues. I wouldn't personally consider the QN94 unless you have a really bright room and aren't too concerned about picture quality. All the OLED's are awesome tbh, especially for their picture. Just pick the one that appeals to you the most.
@darkjediknight29232 жыл бұрын
@@olgil Yes great points! That's what I'm wondering. The Sony TVs look superb along with the LGs when it comes to the latest OLEDs. The QD OLED Sony also looks epic. Thing is most, if not all of the flagship Sony/LGs are 55 inch or above right. Samsung Neo QLEDs are certainly cool and you can get them in 50 inch. But for a 48-50 inch size OLED, if I'm not mistaken, Philips is the only one with a flagship (and new) model in that size? Whilst I do agree the Samsungs look great and like their brand, I agree with you that ultimately OLEDs rock and I think until QD OLED (or Micro LED) become available in all sizes, that's the way to go. The Sony picture is simply fantastic on an existing large OLED TV. Their acoustic audio is just superb. My query is about a new TV for a different room on a wall where the size factor of a smaller 48-50 inch display comes into play replacing an ageing old LCD. So that's why the Philips 936 seems tempting. Would it be better than the Sony/LG equivalents?
@olgil2 жыл бұрын
@@darkjediknight2923 The QD-OLED will probably be amazing but realistically very expensive and not the best choice for most people. If you want a good deal, I would buy around February-March because last years TV's will be at their lowest price before the new ones are released (which will be at their highest prices and gradually drop throughout the year). I love Philips TV's. It's what I have myself and I've never regretted getting it. Great picture and ambilight is really nice. If you're wall mounting though, remember the Philips has an integrated soundbar which will mean the TV will sit quite far out from the wall. You can remove the bar but then you're paying for something you won't use. Sony is a good option but I would say the acoustic surface doesn't sound as good as a dedicated soundbar (like on Philips) but their picture quality is great. It's highly recommended to get dedicated speakers at some point for any TV you get, so just don't choose your TV based on the sound quality alone. LG is also great especially for gaming, if you want a TV that's simple to use, very futureproof and packed full of gaming features it's a solid choice. The C1 is maybe the most popular premium TV of last year and there is good reason for it. All 3 are really nice sets, you won't regret getting any of them. To oversimplify things; Philips: Cosy Sony: Classy LG: Convinient
@darkjediknight29232 жыл бұрын
@@olgil Yes that's a great point. The QD OLED looks superb, but yes, I think that's the "next TV" given it will probably start at a high price. But I'm excited about the technology and personally like that Sony design that they originally did with the original A1. Thanks for the tip about March time. I like Sony and it just edged it over the LG for me for a living room TV. I really like the look of these Philips and was already impressed with the 935. The 936 sounds great. Certainly considering it for a wall mounted kitchen TV. I think the depth of the sounder shouldn't be too much of a problem. The old LCD which it would be replacing already sticks out from the wall. The Ambilight feature certainly is unique and I do think from what I can see in reviews, the Philips 936 is a great all round flagship OLED TV with phenomenal sound. I think dedicated sound systems would be for the other areas of the house, not necessarily the kitchen for now ha! From what I remember, there is a Sony Pictures approved surround system which is wireless which is meant to be very impressive. And I do concur that in terms of gaming, LG probably edges it. I think anyone couldn't go wrong with either of those 3 options. Thank you for the advice! I am impressed by the Philips indeed!

I got a Philips 58PUS8536 a month ago. I had the same problem with brightness. I put mine up from 50 - 55. My TV is mVA though. Also I have that posterisation / banding with my TV and in some cases the skin tones look very pasty. I do love the ambilight though. I have it on all the time except on very bright sunny days because it's not visible on those days. It's great in a dark room and on dull days. I adjust the backlight on my TV according to the brightness of the room though. So when I have the backlight at 80 (I never put it above 80 in SDR to hopefully prolong the life of the backlight LEDs) I have the ambilight at 6. If I have the backlight at 30 I put the ambilight at 1 but saturation of ambilight at +1. If there's one thing I would like to see Philips change is in frequent settings add backlight contrast because I don't like to have my TV very bright at night and the light sensor doesn't work right. If you change backlight brightness it effects how dark or bright the screen goes with light sensor on. On a bright day with the light sensor on and backlight at 0 in settings the TV only seems to go to 50 backlight contrast. With backlight contrast at 100 and light sensor on the minimum darkness is around 50 backlight contrast. I had a Samsung TV years ago and with its light sensor enabled it would adjust screen brightness perfectly no matter how bright or dark the room is. I wish my Philips TV was the same. I don't want to adjust the brightness manually according to how bright my living room is.

If I could I would buy Sony or LG over this every time, but they dont come with amibilight (+hue sync with other room lights, mines are on ceiling and it really benefits to immersion and comfort) now this is a must for me since my whole house is hue equipped. Philips just has no other redeeming qualities than this, pretty much everything else is inferior.

No doubt the Sony A90J flagship is a beauty! However, for a 48/50 inch TV, how does the Philips 936 fare? Versus the Sony/LG OLED equivalents or Samsung Neo QLED QN94? The A90J for instance is 55 inch or above only.

Costs 3k in UK from curry's for the 65" yet 2k for 55". The thieves charging a grand for that difference. If it was 2200 or something then i would get it but no TV is worth that much. Going with c1 because its nearly half the price! Image quality of this looks miles better than any competition though, love my 8series Philips for picture quality. Just not great input lag and hdr isn't quite bright enough.

I'm a Brit living in Turkey and I've just bought the 65" 936 from Vatan (Electrical retailer like Currys) and it cost an unbelievable Turkish Lira equivalent of £1900. I couldn't believe it costs £2999 in the UK, I'm shocked.

Are you high? Your comment made no sense. This is the first year he's given sony his best in class award so clearly it was because it was a better tv in most categories lol it also won his UK shootout and it wasn't just him. My point is it's not just that he doesn't like the g1 because he does. It's just that sony stepped there game up. Also what about sales? That comes down to price lol the lg c1 and g1 are less expensive that doesn't mean the tv is as good haha. Also not to hard to get an hdmi emulator lol what I find funniest about this is the lack of knowledge you have. First off consoles are displaying through a 4k signal even when doing 1440p. The display will still show 4k on most tvs as they are scaling it and using dymaic resolution. It's also why you need 4k 120support to even play there new scaled games for 40fps. It's using the same scaling so yall are funny if you play on console the signal will still be the same it's hilarious.

Philips have released an update that removes the black to be black in game mode. Don’t upgrade the firmware!!!! It cannot be reverted and Philips don’t plan on changing it back or giving an option to turn off the white LED ambilight during black or lack of light scenes which is absurd and a violation of product description. If they do not change this back then I will be contacting trading standards.

120Hz at 4k on new-gen consoles and a 3080ti cannot push that fps I find hard to believe? I think Philips is not prioritising this because they know that a fixed 120Hz at 4k is just pure marketing hence the focus is on the 60Hz. The point is 120Hz screen with the current gen is not required because your source cannot push that amount of frames without dropping I am certain, which would cause stuttering and possible screen tearing. I think the Philips CEO mentioned this in a video saying this exact same thing We have it with Halo exactly what I thought kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIi6dJSDoLKrpdk
