@@SonGoku544 it's more of a purist thing. If you take several TVs and calibrate them they will all look identical despite their limitations such as led not showing true blacks and not being able to go past a certain brightness. The Filmmaker mode is all about displaying content with your TV calibrated to the same standards that the creators use. no extra brightness. No extra saturation. And you also need to watch in a dark room. But if you just want the TV to look good and colors to pop more and don't care about that then this tv is still going to be fine and most people will actually think it looks better cause eits brighter and the colors pop more the way Samsung tweeked the settings. But it is really messed up that they put it in the TV to trick tv testers in this mode.

I wouldn't mind it if they had this curve in all window percentages, but how they try and trick reviewers and the audience with the "only accurante in the typical window sizes" and it also affecting filmmaker mode seems pretty immoral and reprehensible, to say the least. Having watched the early hands on testing from other KZbinrs and reviewers being overwhelmed by their initial impressions, only you Vincent can overcome the eye candy and dig deep enough to find out what really is going on. Accuracy is highly affected by light geography in tv room , just like high end hi fi, ( in the case of hi fi, some resort to room “treatment” to ameliorate room dynamics at a high cost- that’s why some prefer high end headphones which negate room dynamics). So unless you watch tv in pitch darkness, accuracy cannot be sole factor determining picture quality fir tv viewing in real rooms

This is straight up dieselgate. So blatantly dishonest to be tracking accurately on test patterns. This was a deliberate design decision in the company. I had the same thought about Filmmaker mode. You can’t even say that a stricter certification would’ve caught it before this since they adjusted their PQ to the standard test patterns. If there is a verification test for Filmmaker mode then they would’ve just made a PQ to pass that test. Anyway, I hope this is at least a reminder how important it is to have independent journalism. Thanks again Vincent as always and it was very proper of you to make the distinction between Samsung Display and Visual. What a disappointment it turned out to be though. I mean really though, if the picture is better looking versus the one that is technically correct. Which one does it make more sense to watch on the daily? Why not fully enjoy the capability of the tv instead of worrying if the imagine is all numerically correct? I honestly am kinda confused why being so perfect on your results versus one off a little and the picture is much more colorful and honestly just looks better. Obviously you can have to much of what I’m vouching for right now, a picture can be much to cold or things pertaining to that. Idk I’m going to go with the better picture instead of worrying about meeting some perfect standard ya know lol.

it is actually fun, used to work as an engineer at B&O all displays where factory calibrated, pr panel, however, after MANY MANY MANY tests, it was obvious, that we had to "tone the displays a bit, because of preference of our customers, i get.. the "reference" but you still have a group of people you sell to... and just deliver "reference" is just not always enough.. then All headphones would be what people HATE.. since FLAT audio curves, are not always pleasant to all people, YEAH don´ t "beats" the music, but many people like a bit of warm music, so they sometime even goes tube amplified, the same with tv´s, i tend to strive a bit away from Filmmode, even though i KNOW it is mostly the best setting.

This is the info we need. I am a professional user, I now have another 60" tv off to the side to buy the C1(since I have one normal TV downstairs, one in my room and had one for monitor use)... I couldn't decide between the C1 and the Aorus 48" OLED monitor.... after doing copious research on their SRGB and ARGB color coverage I was dismayed to see a site like Rting said they were both under 100% and significantly different (ARGB around 89% for the Auros vs 75% for the C1....) but other sites said both where well above 100% for ARGB.... I ended up with the C1 for the features and price thinking it's good enough, and am glad I did, but thank god for people like you who go above and beyond, I could have easily gotten the S95B thinking I was getting a superior pro product despite knowing the C1's brightness for a monitor not 6 feet from my face was more than enough for my eyes.... In my mind this is reminiscent of Volkswagen emissions scandal and shows a clear lack of transparency for Samsung who know people like me exist and to sell more units intentionally mislead them, I don't want to start a flame war or tell people to get pitchforks... but this is very misleading, again, to say the least. If every review site was as effective as you I would have gotten an OLED a long time ago, and maybe even know the actual ARGB performance of my monitor(or of the A1 which rtings did not test as a monitor, perhaps I could have saved money since I have a 2080 Ti and don't game, i'm locked at 30Hz to use HDR due to bandwidth...lol)

As someone who has stated multiple times I am not concerned about reference accuracy personally. Its performance next to other TVs I have both C2 and QN90B and the S95B feels like the two combined to make one TV. It’s a big advancement over the WOLED technology like you said in multiple videos. I never pointed out accuracy only color volume differences which is immediately clear to me, I am primarily a gamer the advantages are clear there as well. Accurate or not I like it better than any TV I have seen before. My videos were never about accuracy I think my viewers know this, for me it’s more about celebrating the QD OLED technology because these are moments we rarely see in the TV industry. For me it’s about picture preference and for others it’s about reference accuracy, at the end of the day you have to respect both.

Since I am not sitting next to a reference monitor I have no way of knowing if it's "accurate" (and I have my doubts that we can ever gauge artist's intent without asking about every little detail). But I can really just work with what I personally perceive and what is pleasing to me.

Hiding what they are doing here is pretty awful, they are deliberately making an inaccurate screen test accurately and this very anti consumer. People can watch their TV as they wish of course (I've always argued this), but they should start with accurate and then adjust what they want. If Samsung had added this adjustment as a switchable 'pop filter' then it would be fine, but this 'cheating' of the system represents a basic dishonesty for which they should pay dearly. this is the same issue causing the price drop of the s22 in Korea. Samsung manipulates the coding to perform differently in test conditions than in actual use. on the phones, they throttle performance when not being run in benchmark tests. on the TV, they manipulate the light and color settings. I'm not surprised. Deceptive actions like these cannot happen on accident, and they cannot happen without direction and approval from the executive level. A company who's executives are directing deceitful actions in one product, will do it in all products. An true company mission statement is "get the best review and benchmark results, at all costs".

Exactly. Imagine playing Elden Ring and all the cave dungeons are bright...that takes the atmosphere away. And yeah, we can use the in-game brightness settings or TV brightness settings to do that already, but it wasn't the intention to be able to see without a lamp or torch. (Apply this to any game where dark areas are important)

It would have been SO easy for Samsung to fix this. Just bury 'film' mode under 3 menus and present with a warning about muted colours, making it very unlikely for casual viewers to find, but satisfying those that value accuracy. There is zero need to mislead. Zero.

As I demonstrated and shown on AVS, testing in 10%, 9%, and 11% windows my panel has no discrepancy. It has not shown accurate following of EOTF on mine OOTB, and never have I said OOTB was accurate. My comparison is after calibration (not the CMS at that point but now CMS is done and it's out of break in period), not OOTB. Even then I still said many times its not perfectly accurate and an LG or Sony will be more accurate. If you are going to do OOTB comparisons you should also show LG pushing EOTF since all HDR modes default with DTM on. Also I did call out in my videos and streams that it was wrong of Samsung to make filmmaker mode overly bright.

@@rbelson356 I don't recall who said that but it certainly wasn't me. Also, there was more to my calibration than just changing the st 2084 and shadow detail settings. Similar to what Samsung is doing for over a decade. In shops, Samsung TVs always show Samsung exclusive content, making it hard to compare and trying to woo customers. Once I saw real live footage on a Samsung compared to another TV next to it, my decision to never buy a Samsung TV was made. At the time there was a scene with a river and the Samsung had so many artifacts... Now what you are showing here shows significant parallels to the Diesel-Gate scandal, as the TV is trying to detect a test environment and applying different behaviour than in real live usage. But since noone is harmed, there wont be any consequences. But to me this is deceptional towards customers and a reason to reiterate my decision to never buy a Samsung TV.

This is a real professional at work and not somebody fanboying over a new technology and eating up all the marketing (ahem...ahem Linus) and judging the TV after one scene "look at pop on the gold!" Also this 10% window size cheat reminds me the VW (diesel) cheating software. In the test run everything looks accurate, then in real life it's starts cheating. Samsung doing this when other manufacturers also selling Qd-oled TVs, to look better in the stores/show rooms next to them.

Man, Linus said that they could measure the TV but did not know what picture mode. Also he does not talk about the S95B or any exact model, but the potential of this new tech. And it delivers. Even the god tier ethalon Vincent says in this video, that Samsung display delivered what they told on CES. So the stuff is capable, only difference is in the processing behind it. (Where we know Sony is traditionally better, but do you care 1000$ to be better, or just fix it by manual calibration?)

Dolby Vision would force them to show accurate pictures ... because for DV reproduction it's not Samsung who is setting up the LUT ... it's Dolby Laboratories. As a result: Samsung would have no chance for overbrightening and oversaturating with DV content !
