Tiny House Giant Journey

Tiny House Giant Journey

9 жыл бұрын

After Hurricane Katrine, Derek was forced to relocate into a FEMA trailer, like so many others in New Orleans. After living in the cheap RV, he knew his next tiny abode would be made from high quality materials and customized to fit his lifestyle. That’s why Derek chose to build and modify Tumbleweed Tiny House plans, just like we did!
He originally built his tiny house as a week day living space, so that he wouldn’t have to commute into the city from his suburban home. After living in it for awhile, Derek saved enough money and was able to purchase a large home in town for his growing family. His tiny home is now parked in the backyard and used as a guest house.
After building the “NOLA Tiny House” with his father, Derek says it holds a special place in his heart. He doesn’t think he’ll ever get rid of it, but perhaps it will evolve overtime as his family expands.

For me, the ideas in kzbin.infoUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

These tiny houses are SO KEWL...I am completely awestruck at their uniqueness and designs. I am full timing it in a 25 ft. fifth wheel which is 16 yrs old. Of course with winter, I had to completely close off the front bedroom. It makes a great walk in cooler, but it's not easy nor comfortable to sleep there at all..and winter was HARD and LONG this year. There was many a time in Feb. where the waterlines were trying to freeze INSIDE the rv, despite extra precautions of bags of leaves/heavy tarps around the outside for insulation and foil bubble wrap on all the windows. My windows actually got ICE around the metal window frames a couple inches thick due to sub weather. I'm good til about 10 degrees below zero, but we got down into the mid negative 20's and even -30's. I've often thought it would be great to REDESIGN my living space...so really enjoy these tours/ideas. I guess my question IS: how do these tiny homes do for the weight as far as being able to travel? There are many parks that do offer year round options to rv'ers and tiny homers..so grid utilities/water/sewer isn't an issue..and there's always off gridding too. But, I wouldn't want to have to buy a semi to pull one of these. My fifth wheel is bad enough needing about a 6 liter engine or higher as I go to 9,000 lbs dry and empty. Imagine what clothing and dishes, food, equipment, etc adds to that. What type of codes does one have to meet when it comes to licensing/insurance and road restrictions that would limit tiny homes traveling or does one just need to get a permit like a mobile or modular home to transport and then park it permanently somewhere? Perhaps you could do a video on these types of questions for those of us interested in this lifestyle.

non-pressurized alcohol stoves are pretty good. I have a sailboat and like the little cook top on it. There are also alcohol ovens (like Origo 6000) that I've seen in tiny houses. Some people might say they are not as hot as propane but it's a safer fuel where a flame can be extinguished with water in an emergency. Anyway, I like the layout of this one and really nice finish on the countertop and good layout too.

What kind of screams out at me is that he built it two years ago and isn't living in it, and it's completely empty. I lived in a little trailer about that size for 5 years and was itching to get out of it. I live in 400 sq ft of living space now, with the same upstairs as storage, and it seems plenty. It's mostly that 8 ft width. It just gets to you.

A good combo for cooking would be a convection microwave oven and 2 burner induction cook top. That would help conserve propane for hot water only, safer cooking option and could be powered by plugging in or solar conversion.

I moved away from my parents house when I was 18, fortunately my university is just five minutes away from home so me and my dad built a tiny house in our backyard just to consider myself separated from my parents which is not really, Im still dependent on some stuff

I really like that storage loft above the living room area! I feel like it used to be a way more common before but now people seem to prefer higher roof on at least in one "room" of the house. Nothing wrong with that ofc, but I just love storage lofts so much myself :D My student apartment was pretty small and it had a storage loft at the entryway and it was a true saviour for me. Anything not in season went there. My apartment would have been a mess without it.

I love this tiny house! I love his real toilet!! The only other toilet I would buy is the incolet, it incinerates your waste into ashes and we would need 2. It can take up to half an hour to burn it all, it's safer to have 2 God bless you, your family and your tiny house.

Well executed build with lots of thoughtful design touches. One big drawback is the lack of HIGH CONTRAST in the living space. For me, that's a definite NO SALE. Either have the ceiling, walls, or floors a different colour or material texture. Drywall or painted wood for example. Maybe dark stained floors. The eyes need some relief. It looks like a shellacked COFFIN in there. Seriously, the inside of that tiny ... traumatized me ~
