The war named The Dance of the Dragons lasted for less than two years. The point of the first eight episodes is to give all the necessary context for why and how the war happened. The time skips are done now. It's going to be more like Game of Thrones now and just follow the story as it happens. There's way too much that happens in the war for it to be wrapped up this season. It's going to be multi season and it's going to be brutal.

Just to give some insight GRRM said that this story “The Dance of the Dragons” will probably be 4 seasons. The next 3 seasons will take place over the course over 2-3 years so no more major time jumps. There is a lot of material to cover everything that has happened so far is a huge prologue (think Vinland Saga). Pretty sure the show runners wanted to start at this episode with his death, but GRRM fought hard for the 7 episode prologue covering Viserys reign to better introduce the characters for the Dance. Hope this helps

The problem with Vaemond's argument is that after Rhaenys agreed to the engagement his reasoning no longer held water. With Baela marrying Luke both the Valaryon name and bloodline would live on through their heirs. I think him continuing to be pissed is proof that he wanted power and didn't care as much about blood as he claimed or else the matter would have been settled then and there and he would still have his head.

I understand Vaemonds point but at the same time he made it seem like he wanted the driftmark throne because he was worried about the ending of the Velaryon line, which I don’t think is true. If it were true, then when he heard that his grand-nieces (daemons daughters), Baela and Rhaena, were going to marry Lucerys and Jacerys that would have confirmed that his bloodline (the Velaryon bloodline) wouldn’t have ended, seeing as Baela and Rhaena are true Velaryons. Plus Rhaenyras sons are half Targaryen, so their children would be Velaryon and Targaryen. That should have been enough for him if he was really worried about his family line ending. So I honestly think that was his excuse just because he wanted the throne for himself and tried to take advantage of the fact that his brother was absent due to injury so he thought he could go against his wishes. But he wasn’t wrong about calling her sons bastards it was just the way he went about it. You can’t go before the King trying to tell him that he can’t make decisions over your house (which he can because he’s the fucking King) and commit treason by calling out Viserys, his grandsons and his daughter in that fashion. He should’ve been smarter in playing the game/ his attempt to getting the driftmark throne. On top of that, he also called Rhaenyra a whore which was completely unnecessary and incredibly disrespectful. So his death in that moment was inevitable!! I knew Daemon was gonna kill him the second them words left his mouth.
@d3l3tes00n2 жыл бұрын
Anyone complaining about the bloodline is only in it for themselves at this point. Like you said, the Velaryon line isn't ending & that's what he claimed to be angry about. Plus, Vaemond knows that going on about this only puts Rhae & her kids in danger which is just shitty in general. Be mad at her all you want, but being mad at her children is just coming from a selfish place. And technically, keeping it within the bloodline will only make your House weaker in the end, so adding new blood would keep the old blood going longer, but alas, if only we knew then what we know now about biology lol
@FuzzygamingRP2 жыл бұрын

The problem is that Lucerys, Jace and Joffrey, are *not* Velaryons. So they are going to inherit a house that they literally don't belong to at all. Remember, the women marry into whatever family whose husband they have. Rhaenrya was, when married to Leanor; "Rhaenrya Valaryon". So in other words, you'd have a "Valaryon" who literally doesn't have a single drop of their blood in their veins, taking their ancestral seat, taking all their wealth, all their lands, all their soldiers... Yeah no, that's just foul. That'd be like your mom having an affair with some douchebag, then swearing that it's her husbands kid even though he's white and your mom and dad are both black, then your dad gets murdered under highly suspicious circumstances and she leaves *everything* to her new kids and then passing over you and you get nothing. And *your* family name his now *theirs*.

Daemon used his Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister to execute Vaemond. The blade belonged in the past to Queen Visenya Targaryen, (Aegon the Conqueror's older sister-wife). It’s said that her spirit still sings within the blade's steel and guides Dark Sister to strike true. Btw, I love Daemon. He's such a complex and interesting character, no wonder he's G.R.R Martin's favorite Targaryen 😌 He's amazing in the books; an excellent warrior and so charismatic ( he's a 'bad boy' type, handsome af badass, who doesn't give a f.. lol) He looks completely different in the show but Matt Smith gives outstanding performance and he nailed Daemon's personality 💯 So, now I love the show version of Daemon as well 🔥🖤 Kinda funny how at the beginning of the season some ppl thought Daemon is a villain... while a true villain wasn't born yet, at that point lol. Now we have an adult Aemond who is pretty much a psychopath and compared to him Daemon is a hero lmao

What exactly has Rhaenyra done wrong except make the best of her situation being married to a gay man and being the first female heir. She has a good heart and has extended an olive branch to Allicent twice now. Also Rhaenyra has been a great mother, her boys put Allicents to shame. The difference in parenting between Rhaenyra & Allicent is like day & night. Rhaenyra is even bearing the consequences of setting Laenor free too, because she loves him. Allicent has raised tryants and rapists were as Rhaenyra has actually raised decent heirs who only followed along with Aegon teasing Aemond. When the boys were away from Aegon they were respectful & sweet.

When Rhaenyra came to Viserys to ask for his help she asked him if he believed the prophecy of A Song of Ice and Fire, and Viserys mistook her for Alicent. In the last scene Viserys answers Rhanyra's question, says he believes in Aegon's prophecy, but Alicent never heard about any prophecy, so she only heard something about Aegon being the prince that was promissed. I can't pretend Alicent didn't WANT to believe what she believed. Viserys just stood up for Rhaenyra's house and had all the opportunity in the world to name Aegon as his heir, but he didn't. Now on his death bed he suddenly flip flops? Alicent knew he was loosing his marbles, he was high as a kite on milk of the poppy, but she took a few incoherent words as an informed change of will? Nah, BS... No spoilers. The story we're watching is known in Westerosi history as the dance of dragons, and it's about the conflict between Greens and Blacks for succession. Honestly, everything we've watched up untill now is just a prologue. That's why there's a lot of time skips and it looks like a colection of events from a long time period, but that's because it's exactly what it is. This is setup. The real conflict starts now so the pacing should start being more traditional. I'm not 100% sure because I saw a bunch of people saying one way, or the other, but this story is planned out for 3, or 4 seasons. The source material is an in-universe history book about the Targaryens, so there's a bunch of material after the Dance that they can just continue to adapt into futher seasons. Another option that they're thinking about is making this an anthology show and after the 3-4 seasons adapting the Dance they can just go back and show Aegon's Conquest. They can also jump foreword and show the Blackfyre Rebelions, another important part of Targaryen legacy.

My biggest problem with Vaemond’s argument about the future of his house is that by marrying Lucarys to his cousin Rhaena that meant that Velaryon blood would carry on for their house in the future. So in my opinion it was ultimately much more about his personal ambition in the end, especially when Corlys wanted Lucarys as his heir.

@annabourdieu2 жыл бұрын
The time jumps is just the prologue of the main plot. We are just arriving at the main plot here, the core of the story. Most of season 1 was a set up for the whole civil war but now the pace will be normal. They had to do that because the reasons for the war can be explained throughout 20 - 30 years, and they could not not do the time jumps because the war would have started at the end of season 2, and it would be only filler episodes without a main plot. HBO initially wanted to start at the death of Viserys, but GRRM and Condal wanted to include this set up to make it more understandable for the audience.

Actually Vaemond has no rights over Driftmark than the name Velaryon. Driftmark was built by Corlys and he made it the wealthiest house ever. The reason why Rhaenyra had kids with Strong is because Laenor could not have kids. Corlys is aware of this and accepts the Strong boys as his own. So Vaemond was just plotting with Otto so he could get Driftmark and Otto can get Velaryons on their side. That is stupid considering Corlys family has like 6 dragons and Daemon on his side.

It's ironic that the seemingly 'fake' emotions at the dinner was actually the most authentic we've ever seen them. It was the only time they were NOT putting on their masks. It shows that without the line of succession and primogeniture and all this other royal madness mirroring what existed in medieval Europe, these people could've been really good friends. But the system they lived in destined them to murder each other. It's like being born into rival blocks in southside chicago. You don't have much of a choice. The dinner sequence was so despairing because they all knew it was the last moments of solitude, but at the same time they probably did briefly delude themselves into thinking "maybe, just maybe things will work out". They’re all unwitting participants in a tragic theater that’s about to unfold.

King Viserys is supposed to be suffering from a form of leprosy. Milk of the Puppy is Morphine !!!
@PhilHug12 жыл бұрын
TLDR - The source material for House of the Dragon is written in the form of a history book so timeskips were unavoidable for season 1 because season 1 had to cover the 30 years preceding the war. Episode 8 will have the last timeskip for the rest of the series. Future seasons will feel more like GoT with the story expanding across all of Westeros with new characters and a slower pace. The source material for GoT was written as novels so it was easier to make season 1 of that show. House of the Dragon is covering a Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. The source material for this war Fire and Blood is written in the form of a history book. This is different from the source material for Game of Thrones which is written as a series of novels. As a result, season 1 of HOTD has challenges that season 1 of GOT didnt. When trying to adapt this war for the show, HBO and the writers had a dilemna: do you start with the civil war or do you spend time setting up the war first. HBO and the showrunners wanted to start with the war to try to immediately win people back jaded from GoT. The George RR Martin wanted to cover the prelude of the war first so that everything that happens during the war has more impact. Plus, doing this would help them avoid flashbacks or dialogue constantly recalling the past. HBO decided to let the writers cover the prelude. Once you do this though, certain question arise: 1) How far back do you go? (Fire and Blood devotes 30 years to the prelude to the war), 2) What key events do you cover in that 30 year period?, and 3) How many episodes/season do you devote to the prelude? (The answer to this last question is one season aka 10 episodes. Theres no way HBO was going to spend 2 season on the peaceful period.) HBO could've devoted 1.5 or 2 seasons to the prelude to make the skips through this 30 year prelude less jarring for TV-only viewers but if they had did that, it would mean season one ending without any of the big events GoT is known for because the exciting stuff doesn't happen until later (one example is episode 7, which seems to be many people's favorite so far - this episode likely wouldn't happen until season 2 is they moved slower). If they had devoted a whole season to the younger cast to really flesh things out, it would mean the climax of season 1 being something like Rhaenyra's wedding or Rhaenyra giving birth to her first kid. In the book, there are no major deaths and major political intrigue by those points in the story (unless the show writers invented it which could always go bad). I would have no problem with a slow pace but many casual viewers would likely be bored and tune out. There were a decent number of people who were saying that the 1st 6 episodes were slow; stretching the story out probably would've add the the number of people saying that. Plus keep in mind how jaded people were after GoT. Many were ready to hate HotD. If they had ended season 1 without anything major happening, I could see many people saying one of the following: "GoT lost its touch", "HotD is boring", "I knew this was gonna suck", etc. Since there will likely be an 1.5 to 2 year gap between season 1 and 2, that means HBO would have to deal with these headlines for a long time and this could kill anticipation for future seasons. Maintaining viewership is extremely important for a show like HotD because that's how the showrunner can justify getting big budgets for dragons and battles. The good news is that episode 8 will have the last time skip of the entire series. Season 2 and onward will likely move at regular GoT pace. Yesterday on his blog, George RR Martin said that it will take four 10 episode seasons to cover the Dance of the Dragons. The showrunners mentioned turning the show into an anthology show covering the entire reign of the Targaryens in Westeros once they finish covering the Dance of the Dragons.

Jamie was one of those characters you started off hating but ended up liking. Daemon is slightly similar, except that you neither hate or like him at any one time. He does something that causes you to hate him one minute, then you're cheering for what he does the next. The war that will happen between himself, Rhaenerya, and her boys, will be a tragic one, and likely hard to watch.

I don’t understand how people are legit rooting for either side in this show. I’m actually enjoying it more because I don’t root for ANY of these people (except for the innocent children of course). With rare exception I find myself liking all of them at different times and disliking them at different times. I like that. I don’t want a perfect protagonist or an obviously evil villain. I want a real story about real people with faults.

Rhaenyra only has done what hundreds of kings have done. kings are fathering bastards all the time (which is still breaking the law as well). Alicent also is the one who lied to her best friend, went behind Rhaenyra's back and was courting her father, Viserys. She could've not courted him, so I'm not sure why you're saying Rhaenyra has done horrible things. She didn't hurt anyone else -- she just plays by her own rules as other heirs and Kings would. She's also always the one extending the olive branch -- while Alicent continues to be a hater.

VAEMOND the "MASTER OF COMPLAINTS" as Laenor said and as Corlys warned ,will stoke mutiny when DAEMON is still fighting for them, shouting things that would destroy his brothers army from within? Not so honourable. I understand his Velaryon blood thing, it's true but it mainly serves his purpose to be the next Lord of driftmark. If it's only blood that mattered to him, Rhaena & Lucaerys kids with true Velaryon name & blood would be on driftwood throne, he should've been fine with it. He wanted it for himself & It's the legitimised bastard he has a problem with. Labeling the heir a whore in court? VAEMOND was asking for it. If someone said that to Ned Stark's wife I believe Ned would've chopped his head clean off as well.

The Dance of The Dragons is far too expansive of a story to be a 1 season thing. I'm pretty sure G.R.R Martin confirmed that there's at least going to be 2 season and he said he thinks the show needs 4 to tell the full story.

dont know why it needs to be clarified but alicent gave the poor girl moon tea aka an abortifacient. the takes were getting ridiculous esp on twitter about how alicent is a cruel, soulless bitch when alicent is actually one of the very few people in the show with a kill count of zero and is seen to regret her actions whenever she does anything bad. even rhaenyra, by extension of daemon, has a kill count of 1 when they executed their plan to let laenor run away (but on course no one cares about an innocent, non-aristocratic man getting killed). once people recognize her for the tragic character that she is then i think they'd be enjoying the show a hell of a lot more.

All Rhaenyra has done is sleep with ONE man outside of wedlock and FULLY CONDONED BY HER HUSBAND! Laenor is gay and couldn’t perform because he wasn’t attracted to Rhaenyra! What was she to do? She and Laenor HAD to produce heirs, or she would lose her position as well. That is the ONLY reason Alicent had issue was her sexual behavior. Alicent is a judgmental self righteous bigot. Rhaenyra NEVER NOT ONCE did anything to Alicent personally. Alicent asked about Daemon and Rhaenyra and she didn’t lie - and in all honesty it is none of her business. Look at Rhaenyra’s kids vs Alicent’s kids! Also, the anti Daemon? Daemon has always loved his family he hasn’t done anything untoward them. He was calling out Otto from the beginning. Otto caused all this NOT Daemon - he stoked the division between the two brothers. Rewatch the beginning.
