When they rehearsed the throne room scene Paddy's crown inadvertently fell off, Matt improvised and picked it up and placed it back on his head. The director realized how powerful and impactful that moment was so they filmed the scene in the same manner. I have no idea what the gold mask Paddy wore is made of, I do know that gold is one of the elements in the Emmy he's about to walk away with.

When Rhaenyra said "I'll return on dragon back" and had that sad smile, I think what she meant was "see you at the funeral" because as we all remember they burn their dead. Took me a minute to realize but I think that's what she meant. Either that or just straight up war. ^^'
@marlenaantonia265611 ай бұрын
I'm very late to the discussion but I think the true intention behind her answer wasn't that sinister. Traveling by dragon is significantly faster than traveling by ship and horse carriage so I believe that's why she said that. Alicent expressed her wish for Rhaenyra to stay longer with her and the king, and Rhaenyra -- since she also seemed to share that sentiment -- meant to say something along the lines of "I'll bring the children home and then come right back". But yours is an interesting interpretation too :)

Some forms of senility can make you think it's the wrong year, like suddenly you're thinking it's actually twenty years prior, and you're the person you were at that time. It's possible Viserys "reset" to Episode 1 Viserys in that scene, when he actually did only have 1 child.

Yep - the actor confirmed this. He said for him he considers Rhaenerya as his only true child because she is the child he had with his true love Queen Aemma. It’s why no matter what he is only ever on his daughter’s side - because she is the last living thing he has of Aemma.

ironic that the seemingly 'fake' emotions at this dinner was actually the most authentic we've ever seen them. It was the only time they were NOT putting on their masks. It shows that without the line of succession and primogeniture and all the other royal madness mirroring what existed in medieval Europe, these people could've been really good friends. But the system they lived in destined them to murder each other. It's like being born into rival blocks in southside chicago. You don't have much of a choice. The dinner sequence was so despairing because they all knew it was the last moments of solitude, but at the same time they probably did briefly delude themselves into thinking "maybe, just maybe things will work out". They’re all unwitting participants in a tragic theater that’s about to unfold.

*Viserys: I love you all dearly!! Also Viserys: My Only child!!* He kept saying let’s get along & proceeded to keep doing everything to make sure that’s impossible. Viserys is the real villain of this show. Viserys knew what Jaehaerys' council would've wanted him to do. He knew having a male son after stubbornly naming his daughter heir would create an impossible situation. He knew his favoritism towards his daughter would naturally fester resentment on the other side of his family. Viserys knew what was gonna happen and kept doing it. He won his own crown that way. People forget he and Daemon were preparing for a civil war because the other claimant Rhaenys was a female. Viserys himself was "elected" king over a female, how hypocritical is it for him to trample on that legacy. Seems like the viewership can't compartmentalize between "loving father" (to one child) from "absolutely terrible king who made one bad decision after another". Viserys was the definition of Nero playing with his Lego set while Rome was burning from the fire he started. Meanwhile, sweet tongue Rhae Rhae practically dragged a lepered corpse out just to have the rightful heir to Driftmark executed. *Big "Dad. Listen to me. You NEED to sign off these documents in my name RIGHT NOW" hospice bedside energy.*

why were Cersei and Joffrey the villains when they had Ned Stark executed for daring to say that Joffrey was illegitimate? But Rhaneyra is somehow the hero when she says that anyone who dares to question whether her sons are bastards should have their tongues cut out? its the same thing. Her sons ARE bastards. And her claim to the throne, despite the kings wishes WILL be contested. which is why this is ultimately all Varisys's fault. Otto Hightower is certainly ambitious and you can argue that everything he is doing is to only enrich his house. And this would be fair. However, he also got the king remarried so the queen could have sons. who would be the kings rightful successor. The way it should have gone is Rhaneyra should be the successor until the king has sons (who aren't bastards). Then succssion passes from Rhaneyra to Aegon. it may not be fair, but it is the way it is. Because of Viserys's actions he setup an inevitable confict over who should rule. And which would necessarily lead to a civil war. The fact is, if Aegon actulaly contested her rule he'd have the better claim. Becuase he is, the natural born son. And based on rules of succession he should therefore be king. If it had to be decided most people would agree with his claim being the better one, rather than her claim. But Rhaneyra and Daemon in particular woudn't allow anyone to even make the claim. Alicent was right to fear that her kids would be killed. That's what happened when Joffrey became king. All the bastards who might otherwise have a claim to the throne were killed. That's what Robert Baratheon wanted to do to Daneyrs to ensure that no Targeryan would take arms against him. And certaily, even if you want to argue that Rhaneyra wouldn't have Aegon killed, Daemon certainly would. He killed his own wife. if he hadn't married Rhaenyra and if ALicent hadn't married the king, HE would be the one making the claim that HE was the rightful heir. beucase he was the 2nd son, and she was female. So its' not that I'm Team Green. I'm simply saying that Viserys is responsible for the war that would follow. he caused it to happen by ignoring rules of succession in his own case, but not changing the rules for succession for everyone. Thereby setting up people in his own family to contest who would be king after he died. And under the law, more people would side with Aegon than with Rheneyra.

"I feel If Otto wasn't in Alicent's ear all the time filling her head with nonsense, Alicent & Rhaenyra would still be good friends." What did Otto do though? He got his daughter to marry the king so she could give him male heirs. Because his previous wife wasn't able to do that. He wasn't filling her head with nonsense. He was telling her the facts. Her son should be the king. And he didn't even do wrong by his king by making Alicent be his wife. He got Viserys the heirs he was hoping for. Viserys was a moron for not simply making Aegon be his heir. Rhaneyra was only really suitable to be his heir as long as the king didn't have a male son. But because of Alicent HE DID. You could say he arranged the marriage to ultimately enrich his own house, and you'd be right. But anyone entering into a relationship with the king does so to enrich their house. And who the king marries would be beneficial to the king. Alicent actually offered the solution to prevent the civil war by saying Aegon should marry Rhaneyra. But that was rejected. That was really the only thing that would have prevented what followed. Unless the king simply followed tradition and made Aegon be his succesor.

Amazing acting and all but we are soo easy to forgive Viserys after among other things, he cut his wife open and left her to bleed for a son (the one he apparently loved), maritally raped the next teenage one, was an absentee dad to his younger children, and overall let Alicent run amok with undermining his heir, long before he was an invalid. The one real challenge of his reign i.e. the battle against the Triarchy, was handled by his brother and Corlys with virtually zero support.
@Rocket13772 жыл бұрын
Viserys had to make a choice, try to save the child or the mother. Even if he had chosen to try and save the mother, they both may have died anyway. I think it is incredible that you doubt his love for her. He didn't take a teenage girl by force, Alicent is his wife, and while she obviously didn't enjoy the "lovemaking", she still loyally chose to stay by his side to the very end, and genuinely did care for him. He loathed conflict, which is why he did not want to go to war with the Triarchy. The main reason he didn't send aid to Daemon is because he knew his brother would reject his help (which,as we saw, is exactly what happened when Viserys finally sent him reinforcements). He wasn't a perfect king, but he always had good intentions, and the people loved him for it. He will go down in history as one of the better kings of Westeros.
