Episode #1112, Imaginationland Episode III, had a good point. As long as the human species exists, imaginary characters will have more influence on people's lives than any real people a given civilization is familiar with. There is another level of hell in this. It's called, he said because he's autistic, this is why he had "trouble" reading signals from women to which, autistic people all recoiled and had massive words to say. Because he was in a long line of authors this year that sold out other NDs, making NDs like me feel sick that people would be so quick to perpetuate stereotypes about us as a defense for their indefensible. There is another podcast besides Tortise that covered the story. But the replies, etc make me feel a really huge welt of anger. First that he did it at all, second that he gaslit these women, and then the clear power differentials, and lastly his excuse of "But I'm autistic." selling out other autistic people.

I think if people who do this out of alleged "misunderstanding of signals" truly feel bad, they should prove it by making a public fucking apology. That way other people can know to make things abundantly clear because they know they have to either be very careful with this person or they have to run away from them as fast as they can. But they don't truly feel bad, it's just something they say to avoid consequences. I had a bad (traumatic) experience with this guy from university, I was high, I was drunk (both for the first time), I made a mistake and feeling that I couldn't go back on that mistake, I just let things happen, becauseI figured he was tipsy as well, so he probably wasn't in his right mind either. I had nightmares, I needed therapy, I still have flashbacks. I honestly blame myself for dismissing his joke of "No means yes, and yes means yes". So if you're reading this and someone makes that kind of joke to you, RUN. It's not really a joke, they actually think that.

I've been dismissive, dismayed, disappointed and ultimately disgusted by all this. As a longtime NG fan, when I first heard about these allegations, I thought they were wrong...no, 'Neil' couldn't have done this. To make things fair though, I actually listened to the podcasts and came away feeling grubby. It was when I heard a tearful Caroline talking about how Gaiman would effectively make her and her kids homeless if she didn't perform for him, that years of putting this guy on a pedestal collapsed. As someone on the spectrum too, how dare he try to justify his own autism as an excuse for such behaviour?? I'm amazed that more people don't know about all this, so thanks for putting it out there. There are still fans of his that want to brush this under the carpet or act like he's untouchable because of his (undoubted) talent...and he shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. Even without the SA element, it's still a blatant abuse of power. Innocent until proven guilty yes, but what I've heard/learned so far has put me off the man forever.

Everyone: Oh what a shock, a rich and powerful man uses misogyny, rap€ culture and fame to abuse vulnerable people, it's only like the 578th just this year. Meanwhile, Tortoise media: I can't believe BTSM did this.
@nimroddess_2 ай бұрын
I agree I'm surprised this isn't being talked about more. I've been waiting for more mainstream coverage ever since I was made aware of it. I haven't listened to the tortoise podcast yet because I know I won't like what I hear, but I know I do need to listen to it. This video was the first time I heard the phone recording... It gave me suck an icky feeling. He sounded so sincere at the start, not quite apologetic, but like he actually didn't think/know anything was wrong. And then the payoff suggestion was just so gross. Like you said, even if he truly believes he did zero wrong, thats still a problem because he clearly did wrong and is trying to throw money at it to make it go away. Good Omens has been my favorite book for years and years, and now it's also my favorite TV show of all time. I was heartbroken and angered to learn that Neil is just another sleaze ball.

Thank you. I have been holding my breath with this for a long while, now, hoping it wasn't true, it being a "their word against his" sitch... But that audio... He *can't* deny this any more, that's *evidence* and that means he's *guilty* ... I'm heart-broken... I want to cry... My entire world feels like it's completely changed... I literally listen to his audio books - read by him - *several times a week* and I've seen the Stardust movie *hundreds of times* ... He's just such a big part of my life... And now I... I just... I can't... Neil Gaiman's 'Stardust' *literally saved my life* (I tried to end my existence, but I wanted to "go out" while listening to my favourite book, so I put it on while I was "feeling myself fade", but the beauty of the book's themes of true love made me regret my decision, so I called the ambulance). I don't think I can ever listen to that - or any other of his - audio book ever again, watch his films again, read his books again... Oh, jeese, he even wrote my second favourite ever episode of Doctor Who, 'The Doctor's Wife' (the one where the TARDIS' soul gets stuck inside a human's body). I know some people can "separate the art and the artist" (case-in-point, Harry Potter fans who can't stand JKR's transphobia and racism, but still enjoy the franchise), but not me. This will *always* be in the back of my mind, now... I must thank you for this video. I've read lots of articles about this, watched other videos about this, but none have shared the *evidence* and so I was still in denial... And as much as I kinda wish I'd stayed in ignorance - or, better, that there was no evidence, or that he was innocent - but I don't want to live a lie, so although this hurts me to my very *core* , it is better to know the truth.

I'm a really big Good Omens fan. I found the book and it genuinely changed my life. When I found this out, I went into a really bad state of mind and got really crappy for a bit. I was devastated. I actually own like 10 of his books AND a signed copy of Good Omens. So a few days later as a form of coping, I taped Miku's name over his on ever book, and on the GO scriptbook I traced her and put in over his face. my mom asked me if it was messed up when she saw me taping them, and I looked up at her and when "yes" and went back to taping them all

Please don’t let this completely erase why we should’ve already thought he was a dickhead. He completely destroyed Norse history with his stupid little fanfiction. I have hated him MY ENTIRE LIFE, being raised in a Norse Pagan household. I have been Norse Pagan since I was born 24 years ago, so this isn’t some weird teenager fad, this is the religion my family practices and has practiced for many generations. He destroyed the public perception of the religion and caused so many misconceptions that I am frequently told I am wrong when talking about MY OWN RELIGION. It is absolutely worse that he is an abuser, I am not trying to overshadow that, but his destruction of an entire religion’s public perception should have been being talked about for years.

@arbyswitch5580Ай бұрын
Like, Henry Selick wrote the screenplay for the film Coraline. Neil gets the very bare credit of writing the book that inspired that movie, but Neil Gaiman did not write the story or build the world of that movie. In part this is coming from a place of comparison between Coraline, and actual Neil Gaiman movies like Mirrormask (labyrinth but shittier) or Stardust (the subplot in the Narnia books where a star fell from the sky and became a girl, but shittier)

worth noting that this woman was homeless prior to being "hired" by amanda palmer. both her and neil were both completely aware of how vulnerable she was and would therefore be dependent on them. withholding her pay and knowing what neil was like, amanda shares so much blame in this it's sickening. I've been a fan of amanda palmer for years and a lot of her songs detail abusive situations which was very cathartic for her fans as she wasn't afraid to show the darkness of people in her work. now we're just finding out that she facilitated this environment. what the fuuuuuuck?

about his ex-wife, bc it wasn't mentioned in the video: Amanda Palmer isn't really a "feminist". After the allegations came out, I finally understood why Neil and Amanda were married. Amanda was on a tour (payed with Patreon) and only paid the musicians with "hugs and beer". the thing is, the album was crowdfunded and the went on tour, bc she made A LOT of money. She also had a song, where she screamed the N-Word. No, it doesn't make sense in context. she just did it to be edgy and pretended she didn't know it was wrong to use it. Now I am just gonna name !some! of the bad things Amanda did: faked a su*cide and recorded the reaction of the current boyfriend to later use it in an album; kicked someone in front of the crowd, which made them disabled; blatantly ableist (Dresden doll as a freak show with conjoined twins, yes very funny, (/i) -> also generally objectiveing and fetishizing disabled people); creating an unsafe space for BiPoc+: she did not only used the n-word in songs, but also casually used it at performances; wrote a poem about mas*urbating while kids probably saw her through the window (I hope I disremember this, I really really do); she harassed some (female) journalist, bc she wasn't covered enough by them in spite of her openly talking about miscarriages; AND SO MUCH FCKING MORE I was a big Amanda palmer fan as a young teen (12-14 years), which was 10 years ago. Every time I hear something new about AP, I still get surprised (bc like wtf). Oh, and fck ND. I loved his media, Good Omens (even though it's only Terrys work, I know :)), Doctor Who, and so many more. F*ck men. F*ck privelged people who abuse their power. Thanks Louis for this video.
