The song is about Sam's relationship with his father (his parents split up when he was young). The video was filmed in the Low Lights Tavern in North Shields - where Sam was working when he was discovered by his manager (Sam had his two Brit awards made into beer pulls there). As a fellow working-class Geordie, I'm really happy that he is getting the success and recognition he deserves. Thanks for the reaction and if you want to listen to his "rockier" music, I suggest "Aye", "Howden Aldi Death Queue", "Spice", "Millennial", etc.

Sam is from North Tyneside/Newcastle (Same as me.)... kind of like the Detroit of UK/England. Definitely a tough place to grow up, former industrial powerhouse, left in the wilderness. 'Spit of You' is a regional phrase/adaptation of 'spitting image ' or looking exactly like someone. Song seems to be about his relationship with his father, looking like him, being like him and not being able to talk to him. Great reaction guys.

@@simonnewby1215 it was great to see the NUFC flag, he's putting us on the map again musically. Been too long since the area had a major star. Last I can remember was Bryan Ferry and Sting.

Growing up in the North east it’s great to hear musical talent comeback from the region, it faces a lot of hardships in the past and makes for some great stories and influence for song writers and I’m so glad Sams doing so well HWTL🖤🤍

I’m such a fan of Sam Fender, such a humble talent. Very underrated even here in the UK. 👍🏻
@dbasher99742 жыл бұрын
For the background visuals for his tour he asked for songs of people with their parents (mostly dads) and made a huge rolling collage of photos of his fans with their parents, so even more emotional. I think a lot of (particularly) young men see themselves a lot in their dad but struggle the most in talking to him. You’re often essentially one and the same but still struggle speaking to each other about important things.

Coming at you guys from the uk 🇬🇧. SF is a legend and in particular because he is from up north where I am from. People here have had tough working class life’s. His strums cut deep in the bones and have real meaning for many. Thanks for the great review of a local modern hero guys!!!

He's talking about his dad watching his mother (Sam's grandmother) dying. Sam is seeing and feeling his dad's emotions which are normally inaccessible, whilst acknowledging that he and his dad can't communicate with each other, and how similar he and his dad are in character. He's then thinking about how one day it will be him sitting beside his dad as his dad passes away.
@jackyoung70979 ай бұрын
An excellent and accurate assessment of the lyrics and the best part of the song in my opinion. Moves me to tears. The idea of my own father dying. The lyric “No more than four stone soaked wet through” is English slang for some one who is very slight and frail and doesn’t weigh much. Normally say to a young teenager but in this case applied to his dying grandmother

Sam Fender is just "Getting Started" pun intended. Such a rare talent. You mentioned Oasis, have you tried watching the band that started the guitar movement in the 90s and still going stronger than ever today, the mighty Suede, some of their early stuff is Legendary and changed the music industry.
