Glen is a true legend. A session guitar player with a bunch of guys called the wrecking Crew. Played on everyone from Frank Sinatra, Elvis to the Monkees and the Beach Boys. Toured briefly as a Beach Boy filling in for Brian Wilson, before going solo. He was a major hit, had his own extremely popular music TV show.

When you see how all the great artists on stage with him were mesmerized by him, you can see why Glen Campbell was so huge in the 60's and 70's. Right off I recognized Waylon Jennings, Roy Clark, Willie Nelson, and Ray Stevens (the man he talked to while playing). Others on stage with him were Chet Atkins, Lorrie Morgan, Lynn Anderson, Bobby Bare, T. Graham Brown, Ralph Emery, Janie Fricke, Barbara Fairchild, Larry Gatlin, Crystal Gayle, Geezinslaw Brother, Ferlin Husky, Dan Seals, T.G. Sheppard, B.J. Thomas, Ricky Van Shelton, Porter Wagoner, and Gene Watson. Some more great songs are "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Southern Nights", "Rhinestone Cowboy", "Wichita Lineman", "Galveston", and his cover of "Yesterday, When I Was Young"

This was some of country's best talent... I saw Bobby Baer, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, Ray Stevens, Crystal Gayle, Willie Nelson... There were more for sure... Glen was quite a talent... He actually toured with the beach boys in 1965... In 1967 or 68 he had the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour which we watched as a family for a couple of years... Glenn started as a studio musician for artists like Elvis Presley and many more... Definitely a heck of a guitar player too... Great reaction guys... Keep being awesome !!!...

I'm 67 & still a long haired rocker, young at heart. Glen was my first idol & helped shape the way I sing. He was the first Country & Pop crossover star. Keep in mind he's playing like that on an acoustic guitar. Eddie Van Halen asked Glen's golf partner Alice Cooper to see if he could arrange guitar lessons from Glen. Jimmy Webb songs launched both their careers. Glen was an intrical part of the Wrecking Crew he could play anything & sing anything. He had a summertime show when the Smothers brothers summer break. It helped launch his career. If you tro see him do amazing guitar work checkout his version of the 'William Tell overture, which he does on an electric 12 string. Glen had a unique way of using a pick & his other fingers to pluck strings. His first hit was the one you saw, then 'By the time I get to Phoenix his first Jimmy Webb song, Wichita lineman & Galveston the last 2 being picked as 2 of the best Country songs ever recorded or released. Again Jimmy Webb songs. His biggest hits were Rhinestone cowboy again like the song you played Glen had an ear for how a song should sound, always making it his. Southern nights mainly cuz a decade later there were a lot more people in the Country & Vietnam was over. My favorite album wasn't a commercial hit but Reunion with all Jimmy Webb songs the best 'The moon's a harsh mistress' sung by many, but none better than Glen. He sang with Cher Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, David Gates of Bread the principal songwriter & singer of Bread. He literally could sing & play anything he wanted to & without a care in the world, he was that talented. His last song which he won a Grammy for was 'Im not gonna miss you' after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's & toured with 3 of his kids in the band, his daughter Ashley has written songs & had success. He was either in stage 2 or 3 & Dr's didn't think he'd last on your more than a couple weeks to a month. With his daughter Ashley who studied music plays guitar, keyboards & banjo truly helped him stay in the moment. A documentary was filmed during the tour called 'I'll be me' Glen starred in True Grit with John Wayne & Glen joked that John proved to the academy, that if he could carry Glen's sorry ass in a movie, he deserved an Oscar. Personally like the Rock & roll hall of shame, there's too much BS, politics & ass kissing. Glen didn't cuss that's me. Lol! One of his best vocals which shows his range is his version of Conway Twitty's 'Only make believe' Now when you get serious about Grand Funk & their principal songwriter Mark Farner I can give you every song on every album & who wrote what. They never had critical acclaim. But from 1969 to 74+75 nobody sold more LP's. They sold out Shea stadium in 72 hours same way of selling tickets & it took the Beatles 2 weeks & they had radio, TV & every teenage girl just about in the US, Britain & the world. Mark toured with Ringo's All star band for 2 years & at 76 in still going strong & still singing in the same keys. I played at least 12 of their songs from 1975 in Spain till cancer cut my music career & any other career short in 93. But I proved every Dr & specialist wrong & continue to. I'm too mean for cancer to have a chance. Lol! It was my 9 & 12 year old son's & my wife who stayed sober for 33 years & my research. I found the treatment protocol & Oncologist to beat stage 3 Melanoma @ the base of my neck 36 square CM's removed by a hack general surgeon who used a cauterizer, instead of calling in the plastic surgeon like he promised if he removed anything larger than a thumb around. Never mentioned King Kong~ But I'm here & have my home studio which keeps me semi sane. Lol! Love your channel & know just about every artist you do. I played everything from the 50's to 90's my oldest loved Hip hop & Rap & my youngest hard rock. 90's till 2005. 2015 I lost my oldest son he was first an Insane clown Posse fan then Tech 9. He was allowed back stage with them anytime they were in the Phoenix Valley. But he had his Dad's songs on his playlist as well. There's nothing in life harder than losing a child. Don't think you guys are there yet, but never let them leave without a hug & an I love you. My only solace in life. Doesn't hurt to do the same with each of you. Didn't have any effect on my marriage, it was a family curse that his her in her early 50's. Luckily I met her in Spain at 16 when I was 17. Life goes on or you get your ass runover~ I think that was Ed Sullivan Lol!

Glen was truly one of the greatest musicians of his time. He played in studio on recording for many, many artists including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Beach Boys, Sammy Davis, Jr., Elvis and many others. He struggled with alcoholism and had a very severe cocaine addiction in the 1970s. In the late 1960s and early 1970s he hosted his own weekly television variety show "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" that I remember watching each week. Sadly, in the 2010s he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and suffered with the disease until his 2017 passing.

Please check out Glen Campbell Plays The William Tell Overture (acoustic). I swear you will seriously dig it. The tune is also known as The Lone Ranger song. There is an electric performance also, but I prefer the acoustic. And you’re right about one thing Phil. Today’s music is lacking. Dean Martin does a great version of this song. Glen was an incredible guitarist, part of The Wrecking Crew. He had a couple of big hits, while good songs they really didn’t showcase his guitar prowess. Glen, before becoming famous was a top session guitarist. In 1964, Glen was asked to join the Beach Boys as a temporary replacement for Brian Wilson on their live tours. Not only was Glen a fabulous singer, but he was also one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I got to see him live in Las Vegas back in 1979. One of the best shows/concerts I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot.

All legends in that video. I remember that cable channel TNN. A country music station. Ray Stevens was the one looking over Glenn's picking! Ray was a more comedic country artist. Also noticed Roy Clark and Willie Nelson. Glenn was a notable session musician in L.A. they called themselves The Wrecking Crew. Broke out on his own and had several hits and his own TV variety show in the 60's & early 70s. His most famous songs are Wichita Lineman & Rhinestone Cowboy.😊

Glen is one of the best guitarists that has ever lived. He was a member of the Wrecking Crew that provided the music for a huge number of famous records.

Glen Campbell was also instrumental in advancing Linda Ronstadt's career, as she was a frequent guest on his TV show in the early 70's.

Glen had a career that far surpassed his counrry career. In the 60s he was a member of the Wrecking Crew, a group of musicians who played on practically every album released at the time. He was also a Beach Boy for a brief time. You can find videos on You Tube of him playing a Beach Boy medley.

An early Steve McQueen movie, "baby the rain must fall" where he plays a troubled Texas man that tries to be a singer. At the first of the movie he's playing in a honky tonk & Glen Campbell was his lead guitar, his role was uncredited. Steve was pantomoning "baby the rain must fall" a hit song at the time.

Glen was in a group in the 1960's called The Wrecking Crew - working with all the top singers of that era. There's a great documentary about them. Glen died in 2017 from complications due to Alzheimer disease. They said even near the end, he could still play the guitar.

Glen Campbell has a deep rabbit hole to discover. He was also part of The Wrecking Crew, had is own TV show and was in some epic Westerns, all while continuing to make amazing music.

Part of the attraction of Glen Campbell is his presence and stature. I recommend you react to his "Try a Little Kindness" live in Sioux Falls. You'll get another over-the-top guitar solo, and our world could stand to be reminded of the lyrics. Blessings....

Glen bridged country and pop music in the 1960s and '70s as well as anyone ever has. I strongly recommend these 3 songs: "Wichita Lineman", "Galveston" (about a Vietnam war soldier who misses his town and the girl he left behind and wonders if he'll ever reunite with either of them again) and "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" (a heartbreaking account of a man who finally leaves a relationship after trying to do many times). A+

He was highly esteemed within the music industry. Though he rose to his highest prominence in the country world as others have said when he was a member of the Wrecking Crew he played on a huge variety of different bands recordings. His peak period as far as mass appeal was the early 70's when he had his own variety show-The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, which used Gentle on My Mind as its theme song-for several years. It was a fascinating and true variety show is the amazing array of guests he had on throughout the run. Anyone from Johnny Cash, The Monkees and a just starting out Linda Ronstadt to Liza Minnelli, Cher, Tony Bennett or John Wayne would pass through sometimes on the same program. The series streams on various channels and is well worth checking out. Many of his biggest hits has a forlorn, plaintive quality similar to this song. "Wichita Lineman", "Galveston", "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" all were enormous hits that share that vibe and towards the end of that decade he scored again with "Southern Nights" and one of his biggest successes "Rhinestone Cowboy".
