True, but because of how the internet is, it’s impossible to go on the internet at all and not be spoiled without completely avoiding anything slightly related to that specific thing. And if it’s a game like Sun and Moon which admittedly did reveal a lot of unnecessary stuff that would’ve been more fun to discover blind, it’s gonna be even harder because now you’ve gotta wait like 8 months whilst hardly (if at all) going on the internet (far from the end of the world, but it can be really jarring if you’re used to the net). And if you’re a content creator, then it’s even worse.

That’s his point, heavy advertising isn’t teasing, its basically just giving the Pokémon straight to you and stating that it exists. Which, while better for marketing, is often overused in modern pokemon, especially late gen 6 and gen 7. However, trailers that show the Pokémon without explaining everything about them, for a lot of people, are more exciting. If you didn’t look at leaks, there was a trailer that came out just before gen 8 that did this perfectly, showing runerigus and Mr Rime, without explaining what they are.

Just showing a sylveon is a tease, if you explained this a fairy evo of eevee, that would be a spoiler. In the anime, zygarde is explained, the cores and the cells and basically the entirety of the way that zygarde works, including all the forms. That’s the difference. From a non biased stand point I think people are looking too deep into Ttars words. What Ttar is trying to explain is that he feels like sun and moons content and the way they advertised it (e.g. showing ALL the alolan forms thru trailers) felt lazy, so for fans like Ttar and myself it makes it feel like we're replaying an older pokemon game for the 5th time which "ruins" the exciting feeling of a new gen.

Although is was't a cover art legendary, Eternatus is a great example of keeping the legendary a secret. So, listening to TyranitarTube made me realize something about some of us in the Pokemon fandom. We are so endeared with nostalgia, that we instinctively hate anything that follows it. Remember when Gen 3 was hated because we couldn't transfer Pokemon from gens 1 and 2? Or when gen 4 was disliked because it went back to the old formula design wise? Let's not forget gen 5 and the hate it got when they gave us a new dex with new pokemon and none of the the old pokemon were available before the post game? Every generation past the first two have gotten so much hate because it's not "what we wanted". That's why I've stopped watching analysis of Sword/Shield because it's gotten to a point where people are lamenting the whole Dexit/not like other generations and that makes it bad. And that's not talking about the marketing/graphics. I'm starting to feel like the issue isn't GameFreak, but the expectations we have as fans of Pokemon

They also said there was no chance of unincluded pokémon being added back. I was originally very happy with this. Sure, some of my favorites wouldn't be there, but I'd love a game that looks twice as good with half the pokémon! That's not what we got though. Both of those announcements were bold-faced lies. We got just three attacking animations on each pokémon like every other game, older pokémon models and animations ripped from sun and moon (hop always moves the way hau did in s/m), we still have in-battle scaling issues (for crying out loud, eternatus is the biggest pokémon ever released, but it's shorter than all three starters in battle!), the games have massive rendering issues, the wild area has repeating, low-res textures, they only introduced ONE berry tree model, and they still do the "fade to black" instead of actual cutscenes! And speaking of "not introducing any new pokémon", guess what. New pokémon WERE released, behind a paywall! The DLC was the scummiest part yet. Since they made a game with no postgame content, they SOLD us the postgame for 30 bucks. You also had to buy a different DLC for each copy of the game you had, it wasn't universal to sword and shield. If you want to buy the base game, with both DLCs (which complete the experience) you'll be shelling out 120 dollars. If that isn't milking people dry, I don't know what is. And these issues are only the beginning. Now, I don't blame the people who worked hard on getting this game out. Those artists, programmers, etc. Should not be targeted, since this isn't their fault. This entirely lies on Game Freak management, who are willing, no, DEMAND, to turn out sub-par games at a rushed pace to suck money from their blind fans. It's exactly what everyone hates about EA, but so many people aren't willing to call it out because game freak made their childhood. They'll continue to exploit us, the fans, as much as they can unless we call them out and force them to change. We shouldn't be willing to let our favorite franchises fall to the corporate black hole. All I've seen with this game is sub-par work at twice the price it should be. Hell, Pokémon is the highest grossing media franchise of all time! Game freak has plenty of money to make a good game, their management would just rather hoard it in their bank accounts than use it responsibly. We need to call them out, or it's only going to get worse from here. People need to stop defending bad business because that's what ruins these franchises for us. Sorry about the rant. I just feel the need to say this occasionally to reinforce the idea. tl;dr: Game freak chose to rush this game out quickly without putting decent time and money into it so they could soak up as much cash from their fans' pockets as possible, as quickly as possible.

XY basically showed nothing aside from the bare minimum and so there was a lot for us to learn as we played, while most of the content in later games was basically shown right from the beginning so people had the impression there was much more because of how XY was marketed even though there wasn’t, leading to a rather disappointing experience. To be fair I agree with some of what That's saying here, I did really like X & Y's marketing. He didn't make this very clear in the vid, but I think the best format for hype would be this: 1) Reveal the base concept (i.e. long exeggutor and the premise of "alolan forms", no more). Hype builds, what type could it be? what could this mean for other pokemon? 2) Later, expand. Show A. Vulpix but not Ninetales, show Geodude but not Graveler or Golem. etc. This gives people something concrete and builds more hype. What types are these new mons? The evolutions are implied but not shown, what are they? 3) Showcase a little more. Later again, show them off in battle, their animations, maybe their types. Again, more hype is building and now you have concrete material to splash everywhere about alolan forms without having to reveal more than necessary. Just my two cents

Well, considering that if the game takes one of your mons it could probably crash the game or put you into an endless loop of respawning at a center, and that's just one aspect of it, very. Not to mention that you would just find out about it by a random data miner a week after release and then everyone would have bitched about having to jump through hoops and possibly buy a new game just to get a new legendary. That would be such shitty game design, and it's set up so that you didn't experience any mystery or intrigue at all, but you get to see a shitty off-center picture off of a phone of someone's gameboy on Twitter for 3 seconds

Yeah, I as an individual don't care about speculation and rather only see a few new Pokémon and forms. I want to be surprised when playing the games, that's why I didn't watch most trailers when they released. I didn't know about the Tapus and about most Alolan forms or Ultra Beasts. But I also know The Pokémon Company don't do their marketing for me as an individual but for everyone and for making money so I choose not to watch the trailers and respect their marketing strategy. Because I know I'm not the most important person in the world. Also, no Ultra Beasts are not aliens. Deoxys was an alien, Ultra Beasts are from another dimension/universe. A riftwalker (Faller) is far more alien than just something that came from space, leading to modern lexicon calling for a clear distinction between a space traveler and an extradimensional traveler.

A bit of a strong statement to say the games are ”ruined” because of the trailers. But, just like with film trailers, revealing too much simply isn’t fun and does worsen the experience for some. His point isn’t fully void, but he shouldn’t have argued from just his perspective. Pokémon games aren’t enjoyed in one single way, and so someone like Jan might not care at all about ”spoilers”, whilst Tyranitartube cares about it way too much.

Also, you’d think they’d have special emphasis on the midnight form specifically, but they just slapped it in there with other version exclusive Pokémon, character customisation and Z-Moves for Pikachu and Eevee, and they acted like the Z-Moves were the exciting part of the trailer. I love that he loses his shit with revealing tapu Koko, but it was perfect for speculation because he's the guardian of one island, so there should be at least 3 more, and its ability has to do with terrain, you make the connection of having abilities related with terrains and you get a fairy and grass Pokémon. Physic was added in this game so that's part of the mystery, maybe the forth one is a leader of the three like regigigas, maybe they add a new terrain, like you have an electric and grass terrain to be connected to the weather, so maybe you'd have a connection with fairy, so maybe a dark terrain? Heck even the oricorio were connected to the islands and there being a fire and physic one was great misdirecting, and they finally show them after months, like they did with all the X and y shit he praised. Let's not even get that the ultra beast were done super well but wtv.

I find I'm torn. On the one hand I get where he's coming from and I too enjoy the feeling of wonder and mystery that comes to thinking about coming games and the excitement to discover new things on my own while playing. That and I do think sometimes the Pokemon Company can overshare when it comes to evolutions of Pokemon. That said, I agree that it is good marketing and that a ton of silhouettes would be overkill and actually start to make things boring or unnecessarily tedious.
