I’m a 76 year old granny….In the 1960s , as an 18 year old I worked in an office on the corner of Welbeck Street & Wigmore Street in London…One night after coming out of work I tried to cross Wigmore Street but the traffic lights were out …The man standing next me on the curb told me to stay put …he walked into the road , held up his hands like a crossing guard & stopped the traffic…then waved me to come & cross the street …When I looked up to say “ thank you” I saw that it was Laurence Harvey….the guy that I’d seen in “Camelot” a few weeks before…God Bless Him…🇨🇦

I was born in December of 1948, so we are of the same era; however, I don't consider ourselves old, even though I'm a grandpa and you're a granny. Let us just say we are elders enjoying our lives in our respective "elderhoods." And forget the use of the term "senior citizen," because I hate that reference. That's when I feel old! ~ Now, more importantly is what you shared in your comments above. I'm so glad you had that experience with Mr. Harvey and remembered it so well. Thank you for sharing your story with the rest of us.

@c.a.savage, I completely agree with your comment. Laurence Harvey was a very gifted actor. He was given a few great opportunities to hit it out of the park, and delivered riveting performances. Sad that he passed away so young; I like to think that he would have gone on to even greater success. Wrt "Summer and Smoke", it is a haunting movie and I consider Geraldine Page's harrowing soliloquy near the end the best screen performance by an actress _ever_.

From 'Room at the Top' (1959) to his last year (1973) Laurence Harvey was a great actor. Not mentioned here is the fantastic role he played in the final year of his life.. as a genius chess Grandmaster playing for the World Championship who resorts to murder on 'Columbo' s.2 ep. 7 'The Most Dangerous Game' (1973). Chess was hot at this time w. Bobby Fischer, and Harvey's eccentric depiction of a crazed and haunted chess player was timely and Perfect.

Lawrence Harvey could be called a British James Dean, but his range was, in my opinion, broader than Dean's. His Irish accent in 'Room at the Top', lends an appreciation of the fact that his role as a lower class guy that was looked down upon by the upper crusty, yet amoral, parasitic friends, resulted in his character's rising to a greater dignity than their's by learning from his mistakes. I felt totally convinced that he was the person he portrayed.

Why? Arrogant?
@basilmanolakos4926 Жыл бұрын
@@be1037 I read this info from the only biography on Laurence Harvey, a book written by his sister-in-law and apparently bore a great many grudges against Harvey. It stands to reason, if the author is writing how awful his parents. That also applies to relatives by marriage or blood relations, if they intensely dislike the subject of their book, they use the opportunity to trash the person of whom they're written. Settling scores and to smear someone they detest. A prime example are the bios by Kitty Kelly, Mommy, Dearest, My Mother's Keeping, and even Trump's niece, Mary Trump. None of these care to the devil it's due. We learn more about the author's but not knowing about the person being lambasted. Book Publishers want to ply buyers with interested in hatchet jobs. Harvey's sister-in-law, Ann Sinai, probably waited for Laurence to pop off as she wanted to be expert. She never specifies what Laurence did to upset her as he may told her she dislike because Harvey was not a man to mince words, If he detests something any/or someone, he had no problem with being verbally abusive but he had strong views that he often made himself known. The book was largely made on the airing their dirty laundry. But, her book said little good about the man but more of how she had issues with Laurence Harvey.
