One evening in late ‘74 or early ‘75 I dropped in at my sister’s apartment, and her boyfriend (now husband) wanted to play a new record for me. It was Buckingham Nicks. The record blew me away… great singing, great songs, distinctive style, superb musicianship.😊 My sister and her boyfriend and I were all students and part-time musicians, and he and my sister were working on an act together. He asked me to see if I could work out the guitar parts for several of the songs as he was having trouble doing so-I was playing a lot of finger style acoustic at the time, and was actually pretty good at it. I tried, but quickly realized Lindsey Buckingham’s guitar parts sound simple but are really very difficult. I don’t remember which songs I worked out, but it took a couple days. So I taught the parts to my future brother in law. I went searching to buy a copy of the record for myself but no record store in town had it. Then a year later or so I heard a track from the new Fleetwood Mac album and instantly recognized Stevie Nicks voice and Lindsay Buckingham’s guitar style. Son of a gun. What a couple of phenomenal talents they were and are.

Well, some of us were fortunate enough to discover B/N shortly after it came out. They joined FM so soon after making it that I’m pretty sure my exposure was an inside-radio thing, literally. I was just getting into radio as a career in ‘75 and this geeky access was part of that. They certainly changed FM’s fortunes. Probably worked out best for everyone, career-wise.

I’ve come across a few copies of the album and have grabbed them. To me that album, Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk are near perfect. What’s amazing is having heard Buckingham Nicks it’s so clear Lindsey and Stevie were the driving force behind the massive success Fleetwood Mac experienced. Don’t get me wrong everyone else was a major part of it but their first album shows the sound was really Lindsey and Stevie.

Nice clip! Thanks for posting. Always great to hear from Wachtel. But the title is a bit 'click-baity'. Waddy barely mentions the fact he thought Lindsay "doesn't know how play with other guitarists" and certainly doesn't illustrate WHY he thinks that. It's more about the material and arrangements of the songs here.
@alldayvinyl7 ай бұрын
Understood, it’s def not about that’s it’s more what what title card says - “on recording with buckingham nicks.. I tried to pair the quote and the title card because it was a part of the experience recording with them, the fact Lindsey hasn’t played with other guitarist

I met Keith Olsen when he was the bass player in the Music Machine (Talk Talk was their hit- single). They were playing at a club on 1st Beach in Newport, RI. I was only 14 and we were on the beach and saw them setting up in the club in the afternoon. We went inside to watch and Glenn the bass player came over to me and my friends and asked if firecrackers were illegal in Newport. We said "Yeah, they are" and he replied "great!" and went out on the beach to light off some fireworks they had. My first contact with a rock star. He was a super nice guy, even to us young kids.
