"Calling PREA" refers to the Prison R*p* Elimination Act "Hotline" that is posted in every prison next to every phone. It allows inmates to call and make a complaint against a prisoner or staff member for any sexual harassment or assault. It is of course abused by the inmates to the point of uselessness.

Interesting to see two drastically different cases. The first guy is clearly dangerous whereas the second guy is just annoying. I do believe the second guy was truthful though (from his perspective). He may have difficulties interpreting situations but it's easy for me to imagine the staff and/or other residents at the halfway house targeting him.

Mandoo…Today in Indianapolis a mom, and her boyfriend are charged with murder of a five yr old little girl…she had been starved, and died of malnutrition and other abuses…the kicker is that this mom had been caught abusing this same child when she was an infant, and the judge let her off….she kept the infant, and for five years that child suffered until today when the angels took her because the mom sure wasn’t going to care for her. As I heard the story on news today I thought of you, and how angry you would be at the system that allowed her murder! 😡

Why, if someone or their family is able to afford a lawyer later in the game, are they wasting tax payer dollars to appoint court counsel? So what, you lied on your form to apply for indigence? The hearings are the way they are because they are the same way you are charged with a crime - you have a preliminary hearing that the charges are read and probable cause is established as to hold you over for trial, then you have the trial. They treat the claims by the parole officer as new charges, and you're allowed the same due process to defend yourself. It seems very fair to me. When you're locked up before your preliminary hearing, you have no access to a lawyer, legal information, nothing. You go from being arrested, to being in front of a judge, they say you did something, you can't produce any evidene to the contrary except your word, and then off to prison you go. That's not fair.

Im just spitballing here- I think he got a light sentence because the victim likely did not want to testify at trial. Prosecutor was probably worried they would no show the trial and forcing them with a subpoena usually doesn't go well I would not think. Was there a trial? Probably took a plea and they just wanted to be done with it. There should have been a stipulation he do the full 9 years. The problem is that all of these systems are overwhelmed. If we threw the book at everyone the amount of money required to house these people would be insane.
