Yes agreed, and both fall under the banner (broad genre) of "Yacht Rock"!
@johnplaysgames31203 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmacdermott6340 Yeah, "Yacht Rock" is such a broad category that I don't really think of it as a real genre. I mean, Michael Jackson is lumped into "yacht rock" but you'd never say that was the actual genre of his music. You'd say he was pop/R&B. H&O definitely fall under the broad banner along with every other vaguely soft and 70s-ish music but, when it comes to the actual specific genres beneath that banner, Hall & Oates were usually classified as "blue-eyed soul," "Philly soul," "adult-oriented rock," and "soft rock." The internet (and text) being what it is, I feel I should point out that I'm not disagreeing with you. Just adding info and opinion to the conversational pile. :)

Hall and Oates have been classified as either “Soft Rock, “Blue-eyed Soul”, “R&B”, Pop Rock”, “Synthpop” or one of several other genres. The Hall and Oates sound is really a blend of many different styles, and like many artists, they can be classified as many types of genres. Player has only recently been classified as “Yacht Rock”. “Yacht Rock” is a relatively new term that came about around 2005, and wasn’t used when “Baby Come Back” was a hit. When BCB was released in 1977, it was classified as “Soft Rock”.
@dphalanx74652 жыл бұрын
*"Yacht Rock"!* There's a phrase I didn't think I'd hear ever again!? When I first heard it, the term was used as the title of a series of KZbin vids that parodied the origin of that 70's style of romantic soft rock/pop. To the list of bands, I would add Loggins & Messina.

Howdy. Since it comes up a lot.....the strings on the guitar (From the thinnest to thickest) are: E-B-G-D-A-E So, Jordan really likes the E and B string soloing. Cheers.
@johnplaysgames31203 жыл бұрын
He also really likes when they bend those high strings for that bluesy feel, especially when they keep bending the same note(s) over and over before releasing the tension by falling into the rest of the riff. But, then, so does everybody really, which is why guitarists do that. I just mention it because when those high strings start bending, you know Jordan is gonna be wearing that stank face.

Player had another light rock hit in “This Time I’m in It for Love”. And, If you want a song that has a “soulful longing” try Ambrosia’s “Holding on to Yesterday”. It’s one of their best.
@realjaxon3 жыл бұрын
I worked at a clothing store when this was popular. The store intercom played this at least once an hour. It wasn't the kind of music that I listened to back then, but I grew to like it. I think they were a one hit wonder. They had that Ambrosia groove going on. Ambrosia is another band from back in the day.
@johnplaysgames31203 жыл бұрын
Lol, that's how they getcha! In fact, continual repetition of songs until people like them was/is Clear Channel's whole strategy for radio. That's why every Clear Channel station had a playlist that maxed out at 20 songs. They found that if you didn't like a song the first time you heard it, you *would* start liking it after hearing it twice an hour every day for a week or two.
@realjaxon3 жыл бұрын
