The same thing happened to me in NY. I was riding my bike home from work in Brooklyn when a driver opened his door and flipped me over into the street. I landed on the double yellow line in the middle of the street. Thank God there was no oncoming traffic; otherwise, I would have been dead. It happened in a Jewish neighborhood. No one helped me. Instead, an army of Jewish men marched into the street, speaking loudly in what sounded like another language. A Puerto Rican guy who worked at a nearby pizza shop came over and picked up my bike, then called 911. The fire department came, then an ambulance, then the police. I was sitting in the back of the ambulance when a short white woman started yelling at me, "You're fine! Nothing wrong with you," while she waved her finger at me. It was the driver's mother. Here's the thing, the driver never checked on me to see if I was okay.

I pray you are okay! It’s unfortunately true , and I’m sorry, to say but, hateful, miserable people usually NEVER want to take responsibility for their actions! Not only do you have a right to pursue legal actions against both driver and mother, you should. Seems like the mother wanted to put that narrative in your mind i. an effort to protect the driver who apparently was driving illegally ( under age, unlicensed, under the influence, license suspension, etc. ) . might want to get legal advice.
