Fundementally, this is what confidence is. You can call them out, but really that's just opening yourself up to being accused of not being able to take a joke or criticism. It was real good professional advice too. Getting a job is not much different than getting into a relationship. A rejection can tell you either one of two things: 1. What you need to do and improve in yourself to get said job or girl (like learn how to program PLCs, use some sort of CAD software, be more in shape, whatever). 2. It can tell you who to avoid and who is not worth your time. A good instance of this would be companies setting ridiculous bars of clearance that not even people with decades of experience can clear (like the literal inventor of the software). In those instances, you can leave with a more of a “fuck you” kind of attitude, but still being respectful. Or don’t. I’ve heard stories of people in my old major getting rejected because of our engineering title (we were characterized as Engineering Technology, even though we were ABET accredited), and not because of our skill set. Couple friends of mind straight up told the hirers to shove it and left.
