now that you've finished season 1, i want to share my favorite fact about this anime apparently, one of the seasons was completed, with all the animations, SFX and voice acting, BEFORE episode 1 of that season aired. in the anime industry, this is UNHEARD OF. the team working on mp100 just had so much fun working on it, the productivity went through the roof. and yes, i'm talking the ENTIRE season, episode 1-12, with everything in them, openings, endings, music all 3 seasons are a labor of love, very noticeably so thank you for reacting to this! i hope you'll continue with season 2

A Tsuchinoko is a Japanese myth/cryptid, think of something like the loch ness monster, the chupacabra, bigfoot, goblins (yes, there are people who have claimed to see goblins IRL), etc; that last story is basically just a bonus at the end of the series, also the reason the art quality looked a little more sketchy is because that section had the original manga author, ONE, as the animation director, and he is great at telling stories but even he will admit that his art isn't spectacular, he makes manga because he loves it. The original One Punch Man webcomic also has very rough art, but the story was so good that an INCREDIBLE artist (Yusuke Murata) contacted the author and asked if they could collaborate to retell the story as a proper manga with spectacular art. Also the percentage for Mob's explosions is more representative of the percentage that a certain emotion is hitting, with 100% being the breaking point where that emotion is so strong that it's causing Mob to stop holding back his psychic powers as much as he normally does, but it's not a direct indicator of the maximum level of Mob's power. An emotion going PAST 100% would probably be a situation where you had no idea the emotion could feel this powerful, like you thought you knew what the most you could feel that emotion would be, and then it blew past that in ways you couldn't prepare for, like thinking you knew what love is and then TRULY falling in love, or even the opposite, thinking you know how angry you can get and thinking that's the limit, then something pushes you to a place you didn't even think was possible. This DOES have an impact on how much strength Mob uses, because emotions can override logic, morals, common sense, etc, and there have been reported cases in real life of people pushing their bodies to near super-human levels if pushed enough by emotion and adrenaline, so we all have potential that we can rarely intentionally tap into, but emotion can bring it out, Mob is like that with Psychic powers, so him feeling 1000% gratitude for Reigen most likely activated more of Mob's latent energy than the other 100% explosions we've seen (and this is the first time we've seen a positive explosion, so it's fitting that the way the power was used was also extremely positive instead of destructive)

That's what's funny, we don't realise it at first because Mob is so broken when he explodes that everything seems similar. But Dimple is actually a ridiculously strong major spirit that is unmatched by all other spirits we saw so far. When he was at his prime he probably would have beaten all the espers we see in season 1 outside of mob. So yeah the only reason he struggles is because he only got a fraction of his full power after being exorcised twice

I think the key to why Mob's gratitude was so powerful is knowing that every other time Mob exploded, he always hated it. it was always Mob struggling to hold back a negative emotion, and it was always a sign that someone pushed him way too far. 100% is literally the maximum amount of negativity he can withstand before the emotions come pouring out. Reigen steps in and says that he basically won't let Mob get pushed that far. Mob is a child... he deserves to be protected from being hurt. Reigen is saving Mob from something he absolutely hates: being cornered, and forced to fight, and possibly hurting people. when Mob releases 1000% gratitude, he's stronger because he has help. Reigen might not have psychic powers of his own to contribute, but the strength of Mob's abilities comes from his emotions. so he can literally generate way more power when he doesn't feel like he has to handle everything alone. they may be Mob's powers, but not just anybody could make him feel this way.

Ahhhh, it's truly been a pleasure re-experiencing Mob Psycho 100 season one though your perspective. The smile you had watching was the same one I had. As for the 1000% My feeling is it was never a measurement of how powerful mob's powers were, His power is potentially infinite if we follow OnePunchMan Logic. The counter is always the measure of his emotions. When he was unconscious it was always an unreadable sum and the things he did were literally off the charts. So yeah I think he was just overwhelmingly grateful to Reigen for giving him an out, but I think Mob taking it was why the red headed kid was disappointed in him, (for "running away" and not handling things himself... at least that was my interpretation.)

There's a few reasons that this is one of my favorites explosions in the series; 1. Mob truly trust Reigen to, even if it's (partially) subconcious, transfer his power to him. 2. Even after Reigen finds out he got the boost from Mob, he's man enough to not abuse it. 3. Reigen tries to change the Scars way, not by beating the everloving crap out of them (even tough he could at that moment) but by speaking truth to power and humbling them. 4. Mob affirms that his master is awesome which can be interepreted in two main ways; a. How powerfull Reigen is as an esper (if Mob believes he only was part of the reason Reigen used his powers) b. How Reigen handles the problem in an adult way. Also, yes this is the season finale. Next season is going to have one of the best Reigen and Mob moments. The one hour episode you're talking about is just a recap of season one with commentary by Reigen so it's safe to skip it.

this is why I consider Reigen to be the one person who has ever "defeated" 100% Mob. he stopped it before it started. he recognized that Mob was getting stressed out, and valued deescalating from that point. most people see Mob's power and want to use him as a measuring stick for their own abilities, like Teru before his character development. they push him, and push him, bringing his stress level up until he explodes against his own will... it never ends well for his opponent, but it also doesn't end well for Mob, who only wants to be able to control himself and not hurt anyone. in a sea of people who would treat him like that, Reigen is the one guy who just sees Mob as a child... capable of being hurt, which is something that shouldn't happen. by telling Mob that it's okay to run away, Mob is given permission to believe that an adult in his life will handle it. and in that moment, it becomes the truth. Mob would rather entrust his power to someone he believes in... someone who said that psychic powers should never be used to harm people... and the gratitude he feels at having that burden taken off of his shoulders manifests stronger than anything we've ever seen Mob do on his own. 1000% gratitude beats every other explosion we've ever seen Mob have, because it's a stronger emotion. it's an emotion that Mob isn't fighting... he feels it willingly. and then of course there's Reigen's lecture... proving that he absolutely warrants the trust that was placed in him. I think my favorite part was when shoulder pads guy was like "so you want us to return to being commoners?" and that's what really got Reigen yelling at them because _so what?!_ maybe if they didn't treat common people like garbage, they wouldn't be so afraid to be one. they've spent so much time distancing themselves from people because their egos are fragile as glass. they can't handle what it takes to engage with people normally, so they hide behind the idea that their powers make them special. Reigen gets to say that he is a "commoner" because he's earned the right. he's engaged with all sorts of people... he does it every day. he's exercising a skill that these people have left to atrophy, and if you think about it... _that is literally why Reigen is stronger than them now._ Reigen's social skills are why he knows Mob. not even just why he met Mob, but why he knows Mob well enough to notice his stress. Reigen's social skills are the reason why he can say the things that Mob needs to hear. Reigen understands the value of offering a way out, without Mob having to establish his superiority, or risk hurting someone. Mob cares about people. it's the whole reason why he suppresses his emotions in the first place. Mob doesn't want his powers to go crazy, so he can't let his emotional state go crazy either. and he can remain level headed while handling an insane amount of emotional stress before he explodes... it's a testament to Mob's dedication. his first encounter with Dimple. his first encounter with Teru. Ritsu's abduction. there's a reason why Mob's squad consists of all three of those individuals now. he could've given in and destroyed them, and then there would be no question about who is superior. but Mob would so much rather befriend someone than show that he's stronger than them. and if Reigen didn't know that about Mob, then he wouldn't have been able to provide Mob with such relief. Reigen has Mob's 1000% gratitude because he's honed his ability to engage with people, know what they need, and help them with their problems. he engages with common people... he engages with Mob as though he's a common person, because really, he is. and being called that meant a lot to Mob when he was a little kid... Reigen took one look at Mob's powers, and basically said "I bet you could help a lot of people with those" and he was right. it's a more worthy endeavor than whatever these adult-sized children are playing at. it's like Reigen said... how can they expect to rule over a society that they have no interest in, and no connection to? how do they expect to gain anything from people that they refuse to understand? they want to be worshiped? for what? they haven't done any of the work. I think that's why it's so perfect to me that the episode ends with the student council president admitting what he did, and Onigawara forgiving it... but also, Onigawara admits that the real problem was that his classmates were chomping at the bit to persecute him somehow. regardless of where their animosity came from, Onigawara isn't content with stagnation... he has his own goals, and new friends that will help him achieve those goals. that's what this is really all about.

One of my absolute favorite episodes ever. It just goes to show, whenever you think you know what's going to happen, the show always manages to subvert your expectations. The way I interpret 1000% Reigen is that he's not at a 1000% of Mob's power: He's at a 1000% of his own power, which, admittedly, is a fair deal lower than Mob. If Mob's powers are a 10 out of 10, and Reigen is a 1 out of 10, well, 100% Mob equals 1000% Reigen. And about the Division Leader... Supposedly, you gain a scar by challenging the leader of Claw and losing. All of those scars tell a story there. How many times has he challenged the big boss?

My take on the 1000% on Reigen is that when it comes to Mob, his 100% explosion concerns one particular emotion while the rest are suppressed (0%). But Reigen isn't suppressing any emotion, with the 100% gratitude transferred to him and awakening Mob's powers in him, Reigen is able to reinforce that with at least 9 other emotions at 100%, or a combination of min maxing to get it to a thousand, being the mature adult there in control of emotions.

Tsuchinoko is a rare creature in the japanese folklore that says to give very good luck to those who find it. Btw, the last section of that episode was entirely made by the One Punch Man & Mob Psycho 100's author. Also, the first ova between season 1 and 2 is just a recap of the entire season 1 from Reigen's perspective and commentary (something like Slime's recap episode with Veldora commenting with Ifrit), the Ova between Season 2 and 3 are good to watch

The short at the end was actually keyframed by the author ONE! And the hour-long episode you saw is a season 1 recap from Reigen's perspective. There's some extra character interaction in it and I find it entertaining, but it's not essential to the story to watch.

That last segment is just a fun little adventure with Mob and Reigen, storyboarded and animated by One himself. As for the Tsuchinoko they're hunting - do they have Snipe hunts in the UK? It's a lot like that. Looking online it seems like snipes might be only an American thing, but if you're familiar with jackalopes, wild haggis or drop bears you get the general idea.

Mob Psycho 100 doesn't seem like the kind of anime that would just kill him off but that's exactly why they could have. This is probably my favorite episode as well, and one I revisit regularly. Hell, probably the same for most people. and obviously we enjoy and appreciate the reactions ;P Ive only seen S2 once, and I've never seen S3. It'll be good to experience them with ya. Day 2 of requesting Viva Namida and/or Space Dandy reactions. Its been stuck in my head again for a couple weeks now, I've gotta rewatch it anyways xD
