For those who is thinking Bg4 to skewer white rook and queen, there is Rxf6 reply attacking the black queen. If Qxf6 Qxg4, white has two pieces for a rook. Otherwise Bxd1, Rxb6, Bxc2, it's an equal trade.
@marthadunkley67585 сағат бұрын
@ 6:57. Yes I thought ..Bg4. Thanks for the extra branch of analysis 🙂 (BTW it is a pin, not a skewer which would be having to move the higher value to give up the lower not this)

2:36 8...Nc6 is not a new move. Magnus himself played it against Pawel Teclef (2553) in the world rapid teams in August 2024.
@jessejordache18693 сағат бұрын
Look at you with the Hans Neimann level research. "You prepared for a variation in a line that Magnus has never played?" "Actually, he played it in [misnames the tournament, gets the year off by one, but correctly names his opponent -- Wesley So.]" And the innovation that Niemann prepared for was 5.a3. In a 4.g3 Nimzo-Indian. Which is kinda "duh" -- like it had never been played before, but it's totally in the spirit of the position. Neimann's a polarizing figure, so to be clear, I'm complementing you.

g3 may be a sideline of a sideline, but if Magnus transposes into his favorite Taimanov Sicilian, it's suddenly a main line. And if So swaps pawns in the center, the position gets kind of anti-Tarrasch/Rubensteinish.

i don't know. i think a simple round-robin classical tournament with the top 16 rated players would be good. Everyone plays everyone. Highest score wins. If there's tie on top, it's sudden death; with a coin-flip to decide the color.

I want to study this game, but I'm too lazy. But surely Magnus knows that in general, if you've got the iso you want to avoid minor piece trades, and I didn't see anything concrete in the position to ameliorate that rule. Plus, he'd have been happy with a draw. Ugh, chess is hard.
