It's definitely not easy owning a business. I 100% agree with networking with other businesses. I have a power washing business, and I network with a lot of other washers in my area. We don't tell each other everything, but we do share our experiences with each other and help each other out to a certain extent. You're gonna benefit way more networking with other businesses compared to not networking with them. IMO, never base your prices off of your competitors. Keep your prices up, and don't sell yourself short.

Man, I hope he isn't referring to any of my videos made by my friend or on my channel....I get calls every week, about my setup and operation due to my channel, and I"m a big advocate for Maxxd. So I hope he didn't feel that I lead him on if we spoke. I always try to explain to guys that just because it's working for me in my area doesn't mean it translates the same elsewhere. It's always more work than it seems when we're only putting out 15-20min of content. A lot of my videos also highlight the crappy parts of the business. Or the fires that seem to pop up everyday. Either way, great way of explaining to guys, that there is more to it than just buying a setup. The business doesn't magically come to you.

I agree with network and collaborative efforts with competitions. Have you ever seen a ups truck pulling a FedEx trailer? They do it all the time. I’ve had a lot of competition send me work and I send them work. Another benefit to standard rails is you can also haul each others dumpsters. I’ve seen rolloff trucks hauling competitors dumpsters. Make sure you also budget for slow times. I’ve had winters where I worked everyday and I have had winters where I worked a couple days a month. Budget for those areas. Budget for and have a back up plan for major events. If you have a major break down with your truck, you need money to fix it AND money to keep working… have an account set up with a truck rental place like Penske cuz if your truck goes down your customers don’t want the dumpster sitting in their driveway while your truck is down(another reason to work with competitors - they can run your dumpsters while your are down). Don’t grow too big too fast keep your equipment up to par and enjoy your work.

thats why I don't trust what most people say on you tube especially if they show off a new truck that is blinged out and shiny trailer maybe reading from prepared script but I do enjoy watching Stan alot he does his home work. to me if you are starting a dumpster business go work for a garbage company first because most companies do roll offs and if you get experience doing that yeah thats with big trucks and huge container size dumpster but you can see what it might take especially costs of fuel and maintenance ask around first
@pcatful
@pcatful 7 ай бұрын
I imagine it is tough taking on a business that depends on paying for fuel and driving all the time( I know so many businesses involve driving) in congested roads, weather etc. You must really have to figure in the amount of time on the road (pluse variable gas prices, vehicle maintenance) when you try to scale the business up. Then eventually you have to get other drivers and the risk involved there. Kudos if you can make it work, providing a service! My work has always been either on a farm, at construction site, or at my computer, less so on the road. I go out to meet people and go to job sites, of course, but I don't have to depend on being on the road so much. Thanks for sharing!

Then a section of how long every little thing takes, bet its 2X+ what ya estimate. Neck used to be 10 mins to grab bolts at the hardware store, big box is 30+... All those repair / replace costs, consumables, maintenance time, liabilities, etc... Don't trust your memory, write it down, keep reviewing & updating... Lol! Are you asking what the rental price is or what the margins are? Rental price is easy to find, margins are dependent on several things.. I am profitable though 👍 I always scan my peepers over the load as best I can, if I see stuff that I can’t haul, it goes right in front of the garage door, or on the ground etc. it’s not often and I’m sure it’s mostly not malicious.. The customer is responsible for any and all issues that arise from hauling prohibited materials.

@@ryanconrad1516 thanks Ryan that’s what I was asking. Were you making a living at it. I’m in the Seattle area and you have to cover and lock dumpsters as best you can here. People like to add stuff in the middle of the night. Illegal dumping is terrible here.
@ryanconrad1516
@ryanconrad1516 7 ай бұрын
@@thereissomecoolstuff the customer is responsible for what’s in the dumpster. I’ve put them in garages for customers worried about that before, but I always tell people the less time the dumpster spends on the property the less likely you are to have an issue. If a customer is prepared there’s no reason they can’t fill a dumpster in a day. Telling them that does help me minimize the time they spend with a dumpster, which also increases how many times I can rent out that dumpster. For me, I like fast turn around time, that’s how I make good money! This is my full time job, I find that it is just time consuming enough and random enough that having another job would be difficult. When I started last fall I was still making tall grass short, but even just getting into it and having 2 less dumpsters, bookending that lawncare with the dumpsters SUCKED. I still do a little bit of other stuff here and there, like for the guy who’s hat Stan is wearing in this video, but that isn’t even a paying job for me, more of a hobby that I do while I’m between dumpster deliveries.

Your personal dumpster. I noticed your tarp is mounted to the dumpster. Instead of the trailer, would you consider that a downfall. I was thinking I could be wrong, but purchasing tarps for every dumpster seems like that could get expensive and also customers possibly messing those tarps up on job sites. Also have y'all ever thought about using something like Multi Seal 3500 or similar product for your tires for those issues going in and out of landfills and construction sites. I have used that product in the 2500 formula for the front tires on my small tractor due to a peice of property I bought that was covered with debris it has helped with the nails I have picked up.

The tarp thing I wouldn’t be able to personally justify the expense to have a tarp on every dumpster for exactly the reasons you’ve stated. When I ran the 2 extra dump trailers I just used a single tarp and threw it over the load by hand and folded it up and threw it in the bed. Too expensive to have that many tarps!

How do you hide a pink dumpster? I know of the competitors in the area that have the ability to haul my dumpsters. At the end of the day, I have a card on file from my customer. In the contract that every customer signs it states that the customer is responsible for any and all damage caused while on site, including replacement cost. While that theft isn’t exactly damage, I don’t think there’s going to be much of an issue with theft in my area anyway.
