I wholeheartedly agree about the word "strategic." In this market, prayer is critical in asking God what direction to go especially not allowing recruiters to move you quickly through the job process without asking good questions to them.

I think if things get dicey in the economy, those who prepared themselves with more endorsements and trainings will have a better chance of doing well. Can shift over to other things if needed. Also, if you are happy overall, think twice before moving for a promised dollar or two extra.

LTL has been so hyped up recently. I think it’s a bit over hyped. You either work graveyard and just drive, or work P&D, make less money, and have normal hours. Downside is constant traffic in cities and getting into areas with a 53 footer that aren’t built for them. To each there own, but I think LTL has become a trend like Nike and people sway towards it without doing their research. Keep up the videos! You’re always helping by informing us of our options and choices in this industry. Thank you!

I agree the best way to go if you’re going to do LTL is line haul .. yeah, you’ll probably work the graveyard shift but you’ll make good money and benefits great !

I will start with this. The grass is greener on the other side. I met the guy u are talking about at abf. The biggest problem was the schedule at abf. U have to put in your time at a union barn to get a schedule. Extra board is all over the place. His wife’s schedule was not working out with abf. I have been at abf 18 years and I guarantee u he will regret leaving when he is older. We have the best benefits out there period. And I will be counting my big pension checks when I retire. I guarantee the overall package at abf is better than gfs. Hands down

I’ll start with this..Like I stated in the video, “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side”. The fact of the matter is that sometimes we make decisions in life that doesn’t always work out like we’d hope for. Unfortunately, that was the case with this particular person. Your last statement, “I guarantee the overall package at ABF is better than GFS” indicates to me that you seem to be taking his decision to leave, personally. It’s not a competition of which company is better than the other. One company was just a better fit for this individual. It doesn’t mean ABF is a bad company. You also say things like “he will regret leaving when he’s older”. Mainly due to retirement benefits. Let me ask you this, do you know what he currently has in his retirement? The answer is probably not. He may actually be in good financial shape when the time comes. Who knows? So again, making those personal assumptions about this individual is ridiculous. It sounds like ABF is working out for you which is great. However, I’ve heard from people who have had bad experiences working for a variety of different companies including ABF & GFS. So not every job or every company is going to be a good fit for everybody & that’s okay.

I’m not taking it personally at all. I could care less. At abf u have to earn your schedule and bid. It’s not handed 2 u. It can take many years. So it didn’t work out for him because of the schedule. U make it seem like gfs is a better company and that’s not true. I will have 35 years or so in and collecting a big pension check which he could have had also. Just sayin

Again, you still seem to be trying to make a comparison between the two companies. They’re totally different. Two different industries. I’ve never worked for ABF so I’m not going to sit here and say which company is better. That’s not the point. The video was based on someone who worked for ABF & decided to share his experience with me. Period. I simply shared his story. You’re entitled to your opinion on ABF being a better company. However, it’s just an opinion. If the guy went to any other company, I would’ve made the same video. It doesn’t matter what company he works for. The only thing that matters is that he’s in a better situation.

Well in the first video u said he was making more money a gfs. I doubt that. The bottom line is he couldn’t handle the extra board schedule and went back to gfs because it works out better for him. Your first video was trying to compare companies, so I’m setting the record straight. U said how he sent u this long email about abf and u weren’t getting into it. Well I tell u what abf is about as good as it gets. End of story

Probably get some hate on this but dont care, ABF is one of the bottom barrels of the ltl jobs. Their equipment is junk. I have however seen GFS trucks and they are far nicer. And btw, I am an ltl linehaul driver.
