I’m a business owner in the US and I started from scratch, ground up with nothing. I’m thankful for the large loan that the US bank gave me to start up, it’s not as if everyone in the US can get that. Just imagine being a working class/middle class Nigerian trying to start up a business. When he said his business died 10X and had to be resurrected, I completely and totally understand him. In spite of the large loan I received, that money runs out real quick b/c of the large monthly expenses here in the US. I contemplated shutting down my business several times, my husband was getting tired of working 48 hr shifts to help pay the bills b/c honestly I wasn’t bringing in anything. Fast forward to now, the business is now THRIVING and my children and parents are on the payroll. I just wanted to say I know exactly what he meant!

“Until Africa matters, no black life will ever matter anywhere else in the world” 💣 So true. But we need to invest more energy in fighting tribalism amongst ourselves, we seems to sweep it under the rug because we have a perfect excuse ‘racism’. Everywhere in an African country there is tribalism, one tribe feeling superior than the other etc. I think tribalism is one of the things that keeps Africans behind.

@@ugoawa3171 , does religion play a part in holding the country back? Where I come Muslims pick fellow Muslims over qualifications. Despite being a minority they are concentrated in the urban centers. They are running the towns into the ground. They vote for each other in mayoral elections. Non-muslim can not win. The govt had to step in to take admin of the capital city. Big problem we have to live with.
@ugoawa31712 жыл бұрын
@@mwinyimwenyi Yes it does very much. The Noth of Nigeria have Islamic extremists who don't believe in education. So they gave Nigeria all the bad statistics that u may know about, including insecurity, hunger, poverty etc. They created Boko haram in 2009 to frustrate the Christian President Goodluck Jonathan at the time. The same Muslim northern Nigeria, due to their intolerance, don't want to see a Christian become president. So they play all sorts of deadly desperate political games to maintain power at the top. That's why Nigeria has been crawling with so many problems since independence. But thank God that's about to change. A brilliant Christian Igbo man named Peter Obi has emerged. He is progressive minded and hates corruption. And come February 2023 we would birth the new Nigeria

His points well made, we have seen a reductions in racism towards many diaspora groups in large part due to the international relations with their home nations. The cold war was a particularly driver as US and USSR vied for hegemony their was a clear emphasis on decreesing overt racism towards Asian so as to not push thouse nations into the arms of the USSR. It's also clear that some of the American civil rights movement was motivated by redusing the best rhetorical tool that the USSR had in critisizing America, even Europen allies of the US critisized Jim Crow policies. So a rising Africa which is willing to use it's weight to punish racism abroad would be a big factor, the main question is how much solidarity do Africans feel with African diasporas in the rest of the world? Their is a trend in the US to incressingly differentiate new African immigrants from the centuries old slave decended diaspora of the Americas, the former group is very entrepreneurial and seems to be targeted for less racist treatment and elevated as the 'good ones'. This may be a strategy to prevent the kind of solidarity from forming which would put pressure on racist instittions.

It's so tough doing business in Nigeria. The government doesn't understand that small businesses are the back bone of every economy. It's a shame that people are trying hard to build something but they are doing their best to see it fail. So many smart people in Nigeria... Dude is also very spot on the discrimination of black people across the world. I have been saying this. The day Africa gets it right, racism will cease to exist across the world.
@AnnieSpecial928612 жыл бұрын
Exactly...I feel racism has evolved into classism. Many Asian countries also suffered from racism but since they began to work on themselves,the world is paying obeisance. You may not like them but you can't disrespect them. The so-called racism people of African descent suffer from is as a result of lack of progress on the continent. That's why the world over we are still carrying placards crying "say no to racism and black lives matter" . I could write a book but lemme just stop. Africa's predicament is heart wrenching!
@davidolujinmi19192 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the government people know these things... They just lack the discretion on how to help small businesses... They think it’s about the 1,000,000 million grants to people who don’t have a basic knowledge about sustaining a business... Fixing the power sector is something some oligarchs have deliberately refused to make happen, it’s going to affect their petroleum imports and generator businesses... Some people in government are just like sitting ducks in the whole scheme

Well done to both the presenter and the owner of this beautiful business for making my day with this first class business in Nigeria and a perfect presentation. I will be sure to look it up when I am in Nigeria. This is why we are proud of our great country. This type of progress is what we were praying for in Nigeria in the 90s. This business is standard, no one from anywhere on the planet will walk into the shop and look down on Nigeria. It is as good as you get anywhere and you can bet that it will be first amongst equals in a few decades time. I see a great future for our country when Nigerians in the diasporas are enabled and empowered to return home to make a difference. Our government must create an enable environment for start up businesses to thrive in Nigeria, the cost of running business in Nigeria must reduce, electricity generation, supply and distribution must become stable in Nigeria. Businesses and homes with solar panels on the rooftops should be able to sell power back to the national grid like is being done in the UK. We are the children of the sun for God’s sake! We need intelligent patriotic people in government and not corrupt and incompetent career politicians without honour and love of Africa in their genes. For the diasporas to return in large numbers Nigeria must guarantee the security of lives and property and the rule of law must be enforced across the board. Institutional corruption must be tackled too and you will see an exodus of Nigerians returning home to compete on our ancestral lands and Africa will become our playground. I have relatives who returned to Nigeria for a one month holiday and doing feasibility studies to start business and one of them is already back in the UK promising never to retire to Nigeria or live there besides coming on holiday due to and unbelievable level of corruption. This is a huge problem, not everyone can navigate the challenges in Nigeria successfully because it’s frustrating and we have come a long way as a people. It would be a dream come through when I see an exodus of a Nigerians coming home to invest and to live in Nigeria in my lifetime. We must all start working towards building a foundation for another golden age in Africa again! Thank you very much for making this video!

This is one of the most inspirational videos I have watched in recent times. Lanre, you are doing well in Mr macaroni's voice. This video needs to be shared and used as a teaching aid. You speak with passion. We as a people should be more focused to reduce 'disrespect' and learn to play the long game. Somehow, in some way, the passion will pays off and you will get results. blessings. Tayo kudos as well

The system is corrupt. I don't know if it's poverty or greed. Kudos to entrepreneurs like Lanre building locally, things will get better gradually as the ecosystem grows.

Very nice!...Lanre is spot on! I couldn't agree more. As Africa goes, so does the diaspora. The division, and the gap between continental Africans and diasporas has to close for all of our well being. That way we can come to each other's defense when necessary. Tribalism is an enemy. It's wonderful to have our own distinct culture, and customs. But at the end of the day, we're one. We're all Black. And that's the way non Blacks see us...We must work together if we want to see Africa rise. And when Africa rises, we'll have leverage to demand respect around the globe... I'm witnessing it happen. Blessings!

Preach my brother! I literally just had a conversation today in my own mind about exactly what you said. Until AFRICA gets respect, no member of the diaspora will ever truly get respect. #replantourroots

I'm feeling his pain so much, doing business in Nigeria can be tiring for a country that has so much potential. Out with the old, in with the new, that's all Nigeria needs.
