My situation is unique in that I can't go back, I also wouldn't impose on my children's life like that. Nor would I ever ask them for anything. For me it's a make or break. If something happens here I'll leave to another affordable country. Home, the USA is no longer affordable for me and barely existing is not living. I completely agree with the title. Stress is all you get here in the US and if you're not careful it will drag you down. We sold everything and moved back to the Philippines in 2015 in order to be close to my mom, we lived there for 3 years until she passed on. Then we moved back to the US (we had a son that needs to be rescued and we need to be close to my in-laws who are now in their late 80's). In a couple of years my husband will turn 62 and we will be going back to the Philippines. He fell in love with our lifestyle there - laid back, stress-free, inexpensive food prices not to mention most of the time we can raise and harvest our own produce for consumption. We built a house while we were there and it's waiting for us. We live debt-free so there are no strings to keep us from living our dream. Thank you, for sharing Sal's story. I do agree with him dropping his meds. We have an adopted son who is now 13 years old and he has some meds he has to take but while we were there for 5 months this year he never took any of them and he's fine, now that we're back in the States his problems are back so he has to take the meds again.

Hi, thank you for the comment. Google translate is my go-to tool for translation needs. Thailand has a lot of people who speak at least some English. The expressions are basically the same, and I read the countanence and body language well. It also helps being empathic. I found the Thai people to be much easier to converse with than in Vietnam. Regarding costs rising, unless they want to cause widespread panic and destruction to their beautiful country and people like what the west is currently hurling towards, I see it growing but remaining affordable, relative to the what the market will bare. Worldwide millions will die if they can't buy food, have safe shelter, or get medical treatment. Something has got to give at some point. Thank you for the comment!

Guam is not just a hop, skip and a jump. It's a 4 hour plane ride costing $600+, local transportation, hotel, food, finding a doctor that takes Medicare and let's not exclude if you have a dire emergency, will you make it to a hospital in Guam. Dire emergencies, even the Philippines, depending on where you live, you may not make it to a local hospital that can handle your emergency and have to transport you to another hospital.

Self checkout and buy your own grocery bags for your groceries. I was angry shopping at Wal-Mart last week. I screamed "It's time for revolution" to Walmart's manager. So she opened a register and checked me out. It's bad out here. Entire family murder suicides are on the rise. Car insurance are base on your credit score which is bad because, who has a good credit these days? Imagine a 6 year old gun down the teacher. This is the same condo That I reviewed on my channel last month, ReTHAIred in Asia. They must all be the same condo design, There's plenty space for a couple at a really good price. You can get a condo there, if u haggle a little for 8000 baht, ( $230)Lots of bargains to be had in Jomtien

Just stumbled on this video, had to watch. Thanks Dan, just subscribed to your channel. Great interview, very inspiring. Parts of Canada are very stressful too and rising costs are making it hard for low income and retirees. Subscribed to Sal's channel too would like to learn more about his budget travel ideas Much love from Canada. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

This interview with Sal is an absolute gem and the best I have ever heard. There are so many reasons why but for openers Sal is a gifted communicator and usually people who can talk this well are oftentimes extremely successful and yet Sal is essentially living on a shoestring and labored for every dime. In addition Sal had significant mental and physical health problems: in short Sal is not a guy who is super squared away, quite the opposite, which makes his story so appealing to the retire cheap audience and gives hope to a lot of people on very modest retirement incomes.

Hello, and thank you for that beautiful comment. Their are many things about me that are not revealed in this interview. Just a little background; I was fairly successful in life on several endeavors. I tried to leave the carpet business several times in life. I had a great experience all my life as an entertainer. I became easily one of the top bassist in the country if not the world. I mastered all styles and all techniques and was able to plug into any act easily. That was my night career. Unfortunately, I put all my eggs in one basket thinking I would become successful and famous. I found that in that industry it's not how good you are, it's who you know. I tried to leave the carpet business several times. In my life I became the best at whatever I applied myself toward. In Detroit I became the top Account Executive for the nations number one Jazz radio station WJZZ-FM and its sister station WCHB-AM the station who brought Motown its initial success. I also was the literary the top Timeshare salesman in Las Vegas. I was considered the best of the best, of the best, dwarfing everyone else around me. I sold mortgage (unsuccessfully). I was the general manager with 3 different home security companies. The unfortunate thing is everytime a superior tried to screw me out of money or advantage I wouldn't tolerate it and left. I never took shit from anybody. So that's a partial explanation of my mixed bag of experiences. I'm also a published author, and have created and published 12 videos on spirituality and the true nature of our universe. I'm highly intuitive and empathetic. I just told you more than I've shared with anybody. Thank you for the beautiful comment!

I just want you add one thing. I tried my best in life. I did the best I could. It truly seems like my life was cursed, like I had a perpetual black cloud over me. No matter how hard I tried to get ahead, every step forward I made I got knocked back 3 steps, having to financially start over, and over, and over. It destroys one over the course of a lifetime. Positive mental attitude has been my pillar, but as you can see it did me no good. I always prayed for that break in life to come my way, and did my best to make it happen, to no avail. I'm not bitter, nor do I have any regret, it's been an interesting life!

@@budgetdreamtravel1283 Your story is a very interesting one and very complex with lots of success along with very costly mistakes. I have sure made my share of costly mistakes along with some modest success . Your musical talent is impressive and I always wanted to learn an instrument but when my wife tried to teach me piano many years ago I could see learning the piano was going to be a labor or Hercules' for me. Although I have no musical talent I love good music and recognize real talent when I see it. Here are a couple of my favorite performances: Pavarotti singing Adeste Fideles kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipO5ZHaohpuGl5I and Sissel singing Auld Lang Syne: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4Daf3WGlKdkrtE

But you are free here, free to pay taxes and taxes and more taxes or free to have the banks foreclose on your house or be evicted. Free to pay medical insurance or medical bills until you are broke. Free to go to prison for nothing or pay attorneys until you are broke. Free to die and that ain't free either.
