Hey NativeNYerChicHK, nothing but love for Ren and his talents. I was the one who commented about Ren’s free styling but you might want to look at the original comment to get the context. Someone suggested Eminem and Ren have a freestyle battle and I commented that Ren openly admitted he’s not great at freestyling in a twitch stream he did with Liv (Ren and Liv Sangster - jamming and chatting on twitch 47min 20s in if you want to check). He freestyles a bit after that comment and he is pretty good (much better than I would EVER be so it wasn’t a negative comment by far). So I suggested a WPM battle instead. Just to jump in, Ren is better than any artist out there just for the fact that he can do rap, and do it well, not the same played out garbage bands like Falling In Reverse think is rap. He can play multiple instruments and if it's anything like he plays guitar, smashen that. Then he sings like a goddamned angel. And just in case he hadn't dominated music enough, the content of the songs is just out cold on several tracks, the way the videos are done/shot. Oh yeah, and one shot live takes. Every other artist is just gonna have to get used to being second best to Ren. Even if they are slightly better in one area, they still have nothing that beats Rens overall crazy talent. Just facts here 🙃

He’s got so many influences, and I hear Eminem (along with bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, Korn,, Jeff Buckley, and countless others) but Ren listening is best served by not putting him in any box or category.

Ren is a different animal. He's a multi-faceted artist, where em is strictly hip-hop/rap. Ren can rap, rock, sing, play instruments, beat boxes, makes movies out of his music videos, etc. Em is a giant in his own right, but Ren is a once in a generation talent.

If you do "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)" you don't have to worry about order because all 3 are in the same video. I think it's cool that you'd put him in the same room as Em and NF especially considering that he's a badass guitarist, sings with the voice of an angel, makes his own beats, beatboxes, plays beautiful piano, plays groovy bass, directs and edits his videos, produces his music etc. Imagine if he only ever focused on rapping? IMO, with Ren you can hear all his musical influences, Eminem included, but he's not copying anybody, he's transforming all his influences and his life experiences (including his sense of humor) into his own art. It's not a competition, but Ren is one of my all time faves. Top 5.

I do think there's no use comparing them as they're both in their own lane. Eminem would probably have the edge on fast rap (though Ren is much earlier in his career so who knows where he'll get to). But fast rap is just one tool in Ren's bag- he's also at the top levels of guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), singing, beatboxing, piano, acting... He kills every genre from reggae to rock to rap to pop, hes an expert songwriter, makes all his own beats, mixes his own music and produces his own videos, and does it all independently with a small budget and just a few friends. And on top of all that he is just the most genuine human being who has been through the worst of it and has come out the other side to uplift and empower others. To me personally there's just no contest.

Canada... don't forget Canada....lol. Ren is universal. I hear something new every time I listen to this and it just becomes more meaningful. My favourite is Crutch (with Bibi) he wrote it about 6 years ago and it was when he thought he was losing his mind. It is very different and hauntingly beautiful. Full disclosure, Im a 52 year old mom of three grown kids probably your age and Im a grammie to three grandkids but I LOVE rap. Im from the OG days. Tupac, Biggie, NWA. This is what blares from this old white lady's minivan (No lie, ask my kids!). I just discovered REN about a week ago and IMO, he just needs to be seen by the right person and he WILL be making that sort of mark on the music industry. The way he raps is so impressive, but the thing that makes him different is that he isnt just a rapper. Hes an artist, he is a musician but the way he plays is unique and different, he is an extremely gifted vocalist (which is super unique in the rap genre) and he is an actor. He is a one man broadway show. Sure he can keep up with Em, and NF speed wise but he doesnt need to battle them. I dont think he is competing with either of them. He is obviously inspired by them, but hes inspired by SOOOO many different genres. I mean there is Opera, spanish guitar, Italian gondola strumming, poetic Em inspired rap, acting, rock and roll vocals all in one song in this mans repetoire. He is just different, and watching the industry eb and flow through all the years Ive been living and loving this type of music I can say Ive never seen anything or anyone like him. Taking inspiration from his brilliance, Ren is taking and the art in another direction while paying hommage to those before him They are both pioneers. Both brilliant. Both very unique. And both very very good. And for those reasons you were right to draw comparisons. Their ability to spit those rhymes at lightening speed is also a skill they share.
