This story will tell the tale of a very humble and kind Belgian man who lived the last year of his life in desperate loneliness until he passed away in 2006. After Ettiene passed nobody seemed to care anymore about the memories and items he left behind, everything in the house has remained the same from the day he passed. It is clear that he suffered from a severe medical condition at the end of his life and clearly, nobody was there anymore to help him out. Today we will tell his story and show you his wonderful house for one last time. Let peace be with you Ettiene

This house tells a long story, of a couple, newly married and starting life together like other young people. They entertained company in their home judging by the number of plates and chairs. They worked the farm together, preserving food in the summer months to carry them through the winter. The barrel with the handle was used to churn butter. They had children, and raised them in this home until they grew up and moved away, not wanting to be farmers. As the couple aged, friends died, and their world became smaller. When the Wife passed away, he was left with only memories, and his world shrank to only a couple of rooms as he waited to join his Wife again. Thank you for sharing this eloquent home.🖤🇨🇦

@Deb Leek Aging can be a very hard thing. One looks through old photos and realize how many friends have gone before. I know if my Husband of 46 years passes before me, I will face a similar situation to that of the man who last lived in this house. Day to day things matter so much less after that kind of loss. I watched my Gran spend her final years in the house she had shared with my Granther, and she said she was just waiting to join him.🖤🇨🇦

I too am reminded that my time is getting shorter and shorter. I have totally lost interest in cleaning house and trying to get rid of things, there is just me, all live far away..and during pandemic rarely make it home. I would like to fix up one room plus kitchen to live in! This explorer has shown compassion and understanding of someone who is at end of life..poor mobility and desire to clean. He seems to understand, and not criticize… that bed by the window, looking out onto busy road..was a contact with humanity for this fellow. I just wonder if that car accident was the reason they died in same year, same year as car….

It is so sad to see these abandoned homes, especially when they are quite often fully furnished with valuable items. How do you find these places and why are they left to rot? I understand most often it’s because there is no family left, but surely the authorities know about these homes and would organise an auction or something?

Totally just despicable and reprehensible that somebody would actually come into this home and just absolutely trash it and, I'm talking about that entryway specifically because that's what I've seen so far and, you know without a doubt that this married couple didn't live like this.

Leslie this was really interesting. So many beautiful things left behind. A sad existence towards the end. That house was enormous actually a four bedroom. Really glad you went back to film the history again. Most definitely couples do Pass from missing the other one. Especially if they’ve been together for a long time. I lost mom in March 20 20 and dad missed her so much that I ended up losing him and on Thanksgiving morning 2020. They had been together for 70 years. And that was married 70 years they were together three or four years before that. A long happy life together.

Your videos, dear Lesley, remind me again and again of the ephemeral nature of life. People born, live and die leaving nothing behind but memories, and those memories as well, will be no more with hastily passing time. All we have to do as I believe, is not to gather anything but love, kindness and pleasant thoughts towards our huge family called humankind. Thank you Lesley! I do appreciate and respect you. Heyy dear Lesley, That was an absolutely wonderful introduction about the last owner of this old abandoned Belgian farmhouse. - "Desperate lonelyness" and "bad health condition" are so very sad conditions, when this man was growing older. Of course I think, that he still had quite a lot of pleasant moments with his hobby of collecting antiques. - Again also in this video I so much loved seeing your really deep empathy, when you were talking about the life of and occupation of Mr. Etienne. - This special quality is always so remarkable and special in your videos and provide them with an own unique character, where it is easy to identify a new Bros of Decay video at once. - This sticker system is something, that is very familiar to me, because we have a small grocery store in my village, where a similar sticker system is also still in use. - The messed up rooms were very sad to see, leading me to the conclusion, that the former owner might have suffered from the compulsive hoarder syndrome. Or were there before you explored this location, eventually vandals in this house causing such a mess? - That could have been possible as well! Nevertheless there were also some nice items visible like that beautiful cabinet with the mirrors and the still well preserved chinaware inside. - I was deeply touched, when you found the death notes, by your highly sensitive and compassionate reflections. The bedrooms upstairs had a surprisingly nice and very vintage atmosphere considering the antique pieces of furniture and other items. Well, dear Lesley, what a wonderful explore video! I enjoyed watching every second of it. - Thank you so much for sharing this explore adventure with us viewers. - Stay safe, my dear friend, many hugs, peace and kindest regards.

I'm pretty sure that the room with the china cabinet & stoves used to be the dining room, as it had 2 doors that opened out, I believe to the yard. The two large porcelain bowls in the bedrooms are called basins and a pitcher of water would stand in the bowl. Over here in Canada we used them for washing your face in the morning (pre-plumbing) but would also be perfect for your feet to be honest. At 31:27 the pitcher for the empty basin was in the room on the bedside table. Also, right underneath the pitcher was a porcelain chamber pot. Same in next bedroom. Pitcher over chamber pot again, been the washing soda and the bed. Lovely, as always. May M. Etienne RIP

Of Decay and moreso if you find time to visit our province in the Visayas, oh well it's been a wonderful time watching your explorations on the internet; your pleasant, confident, caring and funny self make my day better. So, thank you to everybody for what you can do to make me smile and get inspired by the lessons you share which are true to life and believable. I am in my 50's but still travel through your explorations. 😂😆 Stay safe, Mr. Lesley and God bless always.

Why don't more families care for what there ancestors leave behind? I don't understand! I want to thank you Lad for your Love and Respect you hold for these lovely people who have passed. Be safe Lad, don't get yourself thrown is jail!!!!

It breaks my heart to see beautiful and amazing things just rotting away with no relatives to show interest. Also makers me think of one of my high school teachers who recently passed away and her husband passed ten days later.

Hi Leslie, Excellent video as always. The first can you picked up was sliced pears in a syrup. This house is not in too bad a shape and could be cleaned out and painted. New furniture added. A new life could begin here.

Esse homem já amou e foi amado, mas o tempo deixou tudo de bom para trás. Na velhice só restou a doença e as boas lembranças de tudo que ele nunca mais teria de volta.

Your videos have taken on an artistic quality. Wish I could have some of this man's religious items to clean up and place in my church.

Such a sad thing that all of our lives turn into in the end😞😰😔 Once, such a beautiful life, nice things, nice life, then life happens😞 Sooo very sad that his children or someone didn’t look after him😢 Sad that all of the reusable things that were once viable, couldn’t be saved & enjoyed by someone that would appreciate them😞 Gorgeous antique, wooden furniture with beveled mirrors, collectibles of all kinds, plates, dishes & tea sets…bed frames & bedroom sets that were one of a kind❤️ Sooo very many antiques that people would love! Museums??? Sad that the family didn’t at least come back for the pictures & memories 😢😰😞 Thank you Leslie, for yet another epic find! We love you 👍🙏❤️

Lol. Used to wash your feet. Oh Lesley. That made my day. Before running water there were bedroom sets where hot water could be poured in from the jug to the large basin so one could have a stand up bathe. Flannel and soap job. But I love the picture you painted in my minds eye of the owner, washing his feet before getting into bed lol. Superb!! X🤗💜

Such an emotional video. Watching all your videos, make me think that we should give away things yearly as we age. Giving while we are still living is ideal as the right person gets the right things. This is how i see life and living.
