Only in the modern world do people live comfortably enough to take issue with normal farming practices. They are able to separate themselves from the reality of how their food is procured. Also, people veiwing animals as if they are of the same importance as humans is a modern notion. Most of these people are probably not religious, but God makes it very clear in the Bible that animals are here for our benefit and that we are placed in a dominant position over them. Of course that does not mean we should be cruel to them, but nothing you are doing should be considered cruel. You really can't please everyone. Especially on the internet. People will say a lot of things online that they would never say face to face. What you are doing for your family is important and impressive. The way the world is headed, these are skills you may NEED before long. It's also so much healthier to eat farm raised food than the over processed, hormone riddled food available in stores. Do not waste a single second worrying about what incredibly privileged and uneducated people think about your lifestyle! Sending love and prayers for your family. Love all your content!❤

I couldn't have said it any better my self. These people going off about oh don't kill this or don't kill that, or whatever they go off about have probably NEVER spent any time on a farm. When I would stay on my aunts farm if there was a mean rooster I can tell you we would be having chicken for dinner that night. They didn't keep live stock around for "pets". If it was on the farm it was there for a reason. People need to stop thinking they have the right to tell anyone what to do with their own farm and live stock. 🙄

You can’t spend the rest of your life trying to please everyone. My grandmother taught me at 8 years old, I’m 72 now, how to butcher chickens. I have sisters who think that was terrible. I eat chicken and love the memories of living with her on the farm. I felt sorry for them staying in the city and not knowing her better. Do as your heart tells you to. My respect to you all. Do not keep a mean rooster for any reason. Best of luck. ❤

This roo problem is such a hard one. I used to try and re-home, but now I eat them. They aren't superb food, but I hatched, fed, cared for them, and I don't want to just waste them. I had 10 roos to 31 hens. 7 of the roos went to the butcher, and the hens are so much happier.
@amyalpin6251 Жыл бұрын
That's what I was wondering... I didn't know if they could be eaten. I would imagine they could be used for ground meat, especially if they combined them with regular chicken?

@amyalpin6251 rooster meat is tougher, so is better for soup, or something where the meat is slowly cooked in a liquid/sauce. They taste no different than hen, just not as tender.

Donate aggressive roosters to viewers that have issue with what you do with your animals, and let them experience the aggression and live with it if it is so easy. My grandparents had farm animals their whole life, and when I was little (4-5yo) there was a really big male goose, around my size. He was aggressive towards other smaller animals but not so much towards ppl (I guess because of the size). But since I was a small kid, he started chasing me around and attacking me. They gave him a chance shooing him away, but he would just keep chasing me. After day or two, the goose was butchered. No matter how much they love animals, they love their grandchild more. Honestly, your farm your rules. You show both good and bad things, and this is what makes someone see that farm life is not fairy tale where you walk around like Snow White amongst animals.

I like this solution! I have a rooster that has gone after me three times despite my kindness to it from a chick on. Roosters are territorial - too many makes trouble.

Every year during the summer my grandmother would stay with her grandparents on the farm. When she was 4 or 5 a rooster attacked her. It scratched her back up pretty badly. That night they had fried rooster for dinner. It is a farm, to be able to sustain the farm things have to work well together including the animals.

They’re raised happy and healthy. It’s the circle of life. You raise them, and when it’s time, their purpose is to feed you. Your fans will stay regardless of your choice. The people who leave all the negative comments aren’t the people who you should be listening to. There’s criticisms and constructive criticism. We’re here and will support your family. That’s why we subscribed in the first place. Provide your family. Show the truth and hopefully people will realize that you can grow your own food and that sometimes means animals. At the end of the day, it's your farm and your decision on how to treat and what to do with your animals. I watch your videos because I love animals and you showcase them beautifully. I'm not a vegetarian, so I understand when you choose to raise your own meat. What's personally hard for me is to see animals hurt or suffering. I'm happy when you try to rescue your animals when they pick on each other. But I also found it extremely upsetting to see wild animals caught in traps, mangled, and ultimately killed. I don't believe there is a universally pleasing solution, but I think it's important to emphasize that I respect that this is your farm and family and you should do what you believe is right. Thanks for four years of wonderful videos I've been watching.

My head rooster is a Liege Fighter, and he is much larger than any of the other birds. He was raised up with TONS of socialization, and as a result he is my most friendly and docile bird. I have 1/4 acre fenced and netted over for my chicken's run. I hatch chicks a few times a year to keep my stock up. Currently I have around 10 roosters. I have found that if they have enough space to separate themselves from each other, there is almost no fighting outside the normal pecking order scuffles you see from hens and roosters alike. If any of the other beta roosters start acting up, my head rooster quickly runs over and puts a stop to it. None of the other roosters want to challenge him because he is as big as a turkey and incredibly tall. However, even without problems between the roosters, it becomes an issue to just have that many at one time because of their tendency to over mate the hens. I give away roosters to anyone who will take them, but if I can't find them a home, they become food.

I have 40 roosters. All hatched last spring. I was going to take them to auction, but my heart won that battle and they remain on the farm. Do I spend lots of money caring for them? Absolutely! Will I give up on them? Never! Every animal on the farm has a purpose… the roosters till/fertilize the orchard, when placed in a chicken tractor- they clear any and all vegetation, they alert the other farm animals to danger, help keep my favorite breed numbers up, they strut their stuff and are accepting of pets… they are valuable in so many ways. 🌻🌶️

My family always kept chickens until recently. We live in the English countryside. Problem Cockerels and Roosters ended up in the pot as did most of the Cockerels once they grew. Sometimes if it was a favourite one and he was no bother we would let him live his days out. My Father was a kind man but he said we were not running a petting farm. I think whatever you do there will be people who object but many do not know the reality of having a small holding.

You should do what is best for your farm and family. If the roosters are just going to keep fighting or end up alone from being picked on then they would end up in the freezer for us. There is a reason that the common wisdom among farmers/homesteaders has become to butcher the unneeded roosters. Don’t live your lives to please people who haven’t lived the farm life. What I’m discovering as a fairly new homesteader (rabbits, chickens and bees and a garden) is one has to get over being too soft hearted. The motto of my rabbit community is “breed hard and cull hard.” When I keep the excess rabbits as pets, then I get completely overwhelmed by the work of cleaning and the cost of feeding too many bunnies. As much as my non rabbit friends cry “don’t eat the bunny” and look at me like I’m a monster the truth is they are livestock and not pets. I’m still struggling with this but it really takes all the joy out of my little farm. And rabbit is delicious and healthy too! 🤪

In my opinion, if the purpose of your farm is to be a chicken sanctuary, by all means keep them all. But if the purpose is to provide for your family, I'd send all the extra roosters to the freezer. But like so many others have said, It's YOUR farm, your animals. Thank you for sharing the adventure with us.

If you free-range chickens, you will attract predators which will then take their pick of your chickens.

Far too often, channels die when they overthink about the comments section and try and operate solely based on what they dictate. You'll lose your passion if you let youtube commenters control you. Your farm is a working farm, not a hobby farm. Anyone watching and assuming a mauled rooster is suffering less than a cooked one, clearly don't realize you raise broilers and meat turkeys every year to feed your family. Ignore them.

I think it is important for children to see how food ends up in the grocery store. Sharing the life of a working family farm is important because children have no idea where milk and eggs come from. Other then a picture in a book they have never seen a real animal outside of a dog or cat. I think you need to show life as it is.

Hey I love your channel. I have been watching for years now. I have animals myself, mostly sheeps now but used to had chickens and horses. you guys work so hard and of course having animals is a big responsibly, you guys are incredible. What people don't know and mostly who don't have animals is that natural is really cruel and those exact people will always comment nonsense, "that's abuse" "why, would you do that" comments like the ones you guys showed. Unfortunately you will never make anyone happy, don't listen to the bad comments. You guys do your best and God has blessed you with a great family and great animals!! Do whatever is best, I love how you try and make us part of that but with things like this, nature is cruel and you gotta do what you gotta do. Honestly don't let them free range will bring predators and I it will be an issues in the future with your other animals. just butcher them and keep them for food!! Love you guys, keep the hard work!! :)

You should rehome/ freezer camp the ones you don't want and keep the special breeds

This is your farm. You have way to may roosters and you should deal with them as you see fit. You are paying for their feed, you are keeping after them, etc. I suggest maybe turning off comments altogether, people never have anything nice to say. I lived a farm life growing up and yours is by far the most ideal I've seen. Keep up the good work and don't let the people who didn't do the research get you down. Just so the precious people know if you let them free range you will invite MORE predators and cause worse problems.

You’ve gotten a lot of great comments and I agree with many that say you should follow your own instincts. I think you always instinctually do what is best for you as a a family and for the welfare of all of your animals. Love the channel!

Do what you feel best. People complaining lack a basic understanding of life and likely never left the city and probably think milk and eggs come from shops. There is no issue with culling or managing numbers. You do it humanely. It is not like you take joy in dispatching. It is part of farm life. People who think it is all magic and fairytale have no idea, and I wouldn't bother putting much weight in their opinions xx love from my farming family in Tasmania to yours!❤

Jake, the problem with the roosters is your going to be damned if you do and damned if you don't, choose the solution that works best for your family and let them have their say, but you will know in your heart your family came first in your decision 💗

DO NOT FREE RANGE YOUR ROOSTERS! Once predators sense that there are preys around your farm/area, they will start coming. I think the best solution is to consume what is not needed or is not beneficial to the farm anymore. This way, you're not wasting anything. Don't let other people dictate how you run your farm. You will not be able to please everybody. They don't like your content, let them be. Only cater to the people who respect and follow and admire your stuff.

I think you should do what you feel is necessary, not take any notice of people calling you crewl, they probably don't understand how it goes having animals on a home stead, if your chickens are to much, then it's off to freezer camp they go, & how you deal with un invited predators is your business not any one else , just don't show it on your videos, then you won't get negative comments, take care all, we love the stuff off Temu aswell, good value for money ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I suggest you do what you want to do. No one has a right to tell you how to run your farm. You pay for the food, you take care of them. If there are people who don't like your decisions, to bad. You don't have to change how you think, feel or handle things to make others happy. Your life, your animals, your farm. I have learned a lot from watching you guys.

Winner winner chicken dinner!😂 I would eat the excess roosters and the mean roosters. But my opinion is do what you want and don't worry about the complainers. If they become annoying block them from your comments. Love your channel and family, you know best what is right for you.❤

I had said to process the extra roosters in a previous comment, but I am not in your shoes. You need to do what works for you and your family. You are the ones that are breeding your animals, housing and caring for them so whatever anybody else says really is irrelevant. When chicken breeding, you need extras of that breed for back up, however if it’s too much, constant fighting, to stressful on the animals and causing issues for you then I would process the extras that you don’t need. When it comes down to it it’s what you and Becky want and what works for you. Not everybody else❤️

Hello! Greetings from Chile. I started raising chickens 6 years ago, when I bought 2 chicks for 500 Chilean pesos (something like half a dollar) at a fair. They both came out as roosters, and I raised them with all the love they deserve, since I never treated them as farm animals, but as pets, from there I started collecting more chickens and roosters, currently I have an Ayam Cemani rooster, the 2 white roosters and golden ones that are already 6 years old, their son with a Castilian hen, which is a Castilian rooster (plume rock), a Nagazaki rooster, a silkie rooster, a Hamburg rooster and a Polish rooster. Like all of them, I raised them since they were little and as pets, there are few times when they fight, and I must say that at least I live in a house in an urban sector of Chile, that the entire land would be less than what their living room is. . For the same reason, it breaks my heart to see that your beautiful animals kill each other. I understand that you live a farm life and consume some of them, unlike me, who raised them as pets, but I can't help but feel pain. for that little rooster. Many greetings from Chile, and take advantage of the giant sector you have.

This is your farm and you do what you think is best. There are always people that think they know everything, those people are called "Karen's". They have a need to complain about everything and criticize everyone. Don't let the Karen's rain on your parade. You have a great farm, a wonderful family and your viewers adore you all. Blessings
