So he went to two semesters? What happened to going to a state school for your prerequisite classes? States are always lower, although I can’t even say those are cheap now. I paid 400 a class back in 2006-2009. Who knows what it is now. So glad I only pulled out just around 12K in loans and I didn’t really need that much but all paid back.

No one understands delayed gratification any more. Buy buy buy. Gimmie gimmie gimmie. Want want want. My first car cost $600 and was a beater. I didnt need a flashy shiny toy. Just a way to get to work. Kids need to learn basic math. Its not rocket science. You cant buy stuff that costs more than you make. Whoever approved this car loan knew this kid could not pay for it. But they dont care. They will just repo the car. People need to stop blaming others. Take some damn responsability for your actions. Community and state colleges are over priced. Private colleges are just bs. Learn a damn trade.

Why do Americans can't see the obvious? Expending way above what one earns. Of course, that surely will cause a HUGE PROBLEM. Why go this path? LIVE SIMPLY. Don't keep getting loans if you DON'T HAVE THE CAPACITY TO PAY. It's better to be able to sleep and free from worries.

All she has to say is he owes for the car more than he earns in a year??? That sounds pretty normal to me. He needs a car and can't afford it other way than getting a loan. Maybe he could buy a cheaper car, I get that. The real problem is his student loan and student loans in general. The vast majority of schools are overcharging mediocre studies. To be clear, I'm not in the US. Here, a cheap new car has twice the price of one year's earnings. It's literally unaffordable to buy it with cash. Although, education is free if you are a decent student. It feels that what creates financial problems to US citizens is the commercialization of education and health care. They face them as products, not as basic social needs.

I believe in helping your kids inter this world with the knowledge that you have earned as a parent is important!, after a long investigation i brought both of my kids a car in school, 2006 and a 2008 prius they where happy to have them but hated them because of other kids made fun of them. Well fast forward 8 years i had less than $20k both cars they serve them thur highschool and college plus save me greatly in fuel cost! 2 years ago sold the 2008 for $8k and 2006 for $5500. My point is that this young generation should learn a valuable lesson from there parents but sadly alot of time parents are the problem too.

He may have to keep it if he owes more than it’s worth. People forget that cars depreciate and if you don’t have enough money down to cover that, then you will owe more than it’s worth. So, selling it would be pointless because it would leave him with no car and no money in his pocket, except from saving the amount of the car payment. Or, he may also be paying on a car he no longer has if he’s upside down. So, selling a car is not always the easy answer.
