i’m 68 playing of 5.8 / got injured, a chiropractic doctor made it worse for me / struggled with sciatica and an unstable SI joint for a year / couldn’t walk but kept playing golf / had to change my swing / i’m now doing your third option (plus off course strength training to rebuild my core stability and muscles around my joints) / still searching for more club head speed / yesterday I started to focus on bringing my hands way above my shoulder in the back swing --> that added 30 yards !!! thought it was a coincidence a good day but i went to play again to see if it worked again and yes! I’m basically almost back at my old club distances / it’s amazing what you can do by creating more momentum / effortless power and -in my case- most importantly a pain free movement (can’t do the jumping swing anymore, tightens the gluts and pinches the sciatic nerve too much)

Yeah, I’d need to see that 71 year old. At 68, after adopting the Mike Austin method for three years (so different from my PGA approved swing of over 40 years and as a 7 hc hardly had any rounds in the 70’s and a few in the high nineties) I finally ingrained Mike’s compound pivot and carried 285 for a total 305. At 68, pneumonia and a NDE, drives dropped to 240 carry, twenty short of my drives up to around age 56. Today at 71, I average (not including the real stinkers) about 220 carry. I still outdrive my peers but I’d really like to see that 71 year old drive it 300. Mike Austin until a stroke in his mid 70’s, could still carry the ball 300+ but Mike was an exceptional physical example of a man at around 6’4”. A vid of the 71 year old, please. Fairways and Greens! PenguinGolf

When I was in the military I was playing golf with a man that golfed with one arm. He could not hit the ball far, about 150 yards, but it went straight. His short game was outstanding, especially his putting. This guy shot just above par golf but had a really solid game. He never got into trouble and sunk every putt within eight feet. I had the greatest respect for him and what he was able to achieve. The guy inspired me to work harder at my game and become a more accurate player.

I picked up the game at 57. I'm 64 now, pre covid I was hitting drives 300. all depend on weather ,temperature and how the greens run. Anyway after covid I could not hit a drive ZERO ! So I tee off with a 3 hybrid you strike it right and it will carry well over 200 ! I had to re-learn a new swing like yours. I practiced this swing 5 days in a row. no ball !! just tees. The first time I used it I set up Exactly as instructed came through the ball not fast maybe 100-105. I carried that ball 280 !!!! And the Technique was so different that I fell back after I completed the swing !! But I can tell you ,YES you will be out driving your group but don't get cocky and "GOE FOR IT" You will go right over the top. Even a bad drive goes 250!! I even duffed off of #one and it was straight. I took a 7 iron and blasted that out 200 yards still on a par 5 in 3 ! .Its a Donald Ross course and several greens are beyond challenging .Yesterday the greens were Lighting fast and the pin placements were all in the worst locations .If you were above a hole and just tap it it would run but so many would sit then move slow and as it just gets to the cup it runs around the edge or just past and then away it goes down the green , back to the fairways!! But We love the game !!!

Hello Todd, I'm a very experienced golfer (will be 81 in May) and have been very interested in your teaching since reading "The Bad Lie". My index is 5.1 and I have scored better than my age 303 times, starting at 64. I'm putting off replacement of both knees and have particular difficulty loading and unloading a proper weight shift. I play with 2 bulky knee braces similar to a football lineman. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the excellent content.

I am almost 70, I have recently creased my drive about 30yds, it’s loss of weight and weight training, increased rotation and loading the swing. Length of drive (temperature dependent) from 220 to 250 consistently. A few longer.

I’m 70 and hit the ball 180-220 most days. Can’t get past that so will work on your method.

I am 85 years old and use the vertical line swing with as much rotation as possible. My balance issues will not allow me to raise off my feet forward and back. It may take me an extra shot or so to get on the Green but my putting skills help makeup for my shorter drive.

I’m 77 years young, I had been hit the ball around 250 to 270, lately I have lost about 30 to 50 yards. 😟. I’m excited to try this, I’m playing tomorrow and will certainly try this out.

I am 73. 6'2", 155 pounds. I have lost 20 - 30 yards off the tee in the last year, so I am definitely interested in methods to get some speed and power back.
