Amazing album!! She's just showing how versatile she is. Who knew that Madonna was going to sing old school jazzy songs, written by her! You will be mesmerized.

I already am! The big, fluid, and jazzy sound of He's A Man is definitely another reminder of how musically versatile she can be. It's not that many pop stars who can trade back and forth from programmed dance music to a big band live instrumentation with as much ease.

At the peak of her fame, Madonna possessed such unprecedented stardom that she could seemingly attempt anything, even releasing a concept album of 1930s and 1940s-style show tunes, which she executed flawlessly. These songs are brimming with character. I recall an interview around the album's release where Madonna said she initially doubted that she could sing this genre, yet she proved herself more than capable. 1990 was an AWESOME year for Madonna. Sooooo much material and product came out that year-massive Madonna media saturation, similar to 1985.
@AceM-ReactsАй бұрын
That's interesting. I know 1985 was a big year for her. I remember doing a bunch of reactions centered around her that year. Sounds like I'm in another blockbuster era for her.

Yey I'm glad we're starting a new era and a very good one! For the next few years, she'll be in such a peak that she could do no wrong. This album was surprisingly good and got he most harsh critics off guard. No one expected such a leap, really. Her acting on the movie was also good - if you're ever interested, I recommend you watch it. It's pretty interesting and has an esthetic of its own. It might sound cliche, but this one really feels like a live cartoon. Can't wait for the next song, it's 🔥

I bought this album (on cassette) the day it was released. I had only heard the single "Vogue" prior, so I expected the album to have a similar contemporary sound. When I listened to it, I was surprised by the throwback 'period' theme. It was really my strong affinity for Madonna that compelled me to accept the style of this album at the time. It took years before I fully appreciated it. But yes, "He's A Man" is one of the standout cuts on the album!

Love your reaction to this! The song and her vocals are perfect, she really did create the character in your head. Madonna cited this as her favourite album so she clearly enjoyed making it.

Thanks! I appreciate your watching and commenting. Just from the first song, it sounds like she was fully immersed in the spirit of the theme and atmosphere. If the rest of the album is in the same vein, then it seems like it's gonna be a fun and colorful journey.

This album really showed her versatility. A real departure from her pop sound but the songs were so creative evoking the era of Dick Tracy and promoting the movie at the same time. She performed Sooner or Later live at the Oscars and incorporated several songs into a segment of the Blond Ambition tour.

I like very much this album, jazzy and cinematographic...as I like your reactions getting to the point and always with a very accurate, exact and for me, right analysis! After hearing "Sooner or later" you should look the video from her performance of the song in the Oscars! it's a bit different version, but so great and unique! something that I think only Madonna can do that way on a stage, because is everything, not only the vocals, the moves, the dance, the drama, the charisma...

As with the Whitney ‘Blue’ album which I just commented on, this album is also fire and every song a 10/10. No skips on I’m Breathless 💛

I sooooo knew you would love this. I just knew it. Be prepared, the whole album is brilliant. So underrated. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions. Thank you, Ace ❤ PS. Madonna plays Breathless Mahoney in the film, she is tied to a mobb boss and sings in his bar and she wants Dick Tracy even though he is already committed to another woman. So this song is her trying to seduce him like she does in the film

Sounds interesting! I'm gonna look and see if I can find this movie streaming anywhere. I looked at the Wikipedia page for Dick Tracy and saw that it did strong box office, so it seems worth checking out.

When this album was released Madonna was huge and a lot of people wanted her to flop. The movie was a big thing in Hollywood but she was never considered an actress. Once again ( and she did that again and again) she proved them wrong with the Breathless Mahoney character, and also with the songs from this “soundtrack”. I love this album and what came after that ( the Blond ambition tour and the documentary In bed with Madonna) just catapulted her to the top of the world where she never left. Have a nice journey. 😉

@@AceM-Reacts she skipped LAP album and started the tour one month after releasing I’m Breathless. It basically supports both albums. You must react to this tour. This show changed forever how pop concerts were presented.

Sooo happy you jumped into the next Madonna era so soon and just as happy that you enjoyed this song! Watching you react with such enthusiasm really made my night! I was in middle school when I first got this album back in the early 90's and it's always been a favorite. Such a shame that modern critics don't count it as one of Madonna's studio albums, because it definitely is (and is definitely not a soundtrack album!)! Can't wait to see the rest of your reactions for this album. Thanks for the smile, AceM!
@AceM-ReactsАй бұрын
Thank you for watching! Makes me happy that you enjoyed it. I didn't wanna drag the next album out as much as I did the last one, so I quickly jumped to it. I agree that albums "inspired by" movies should probably be considered studio albums if it's a single artist. This album has her name on it and doesn't say "soundtrack," so I don't see why it wouldn't be considered a studio album, even if some of the songs are in the movie.

i remember i was 11 or 12 when this came out. i was obsessed with "vogue", so i bought (begged my parents for) the cassette expecting an album with songs like "vogue"... i was legit mad. what 11 year old wants to hear "old timey" music? well after a cross country drive in the back seat with only this cassette and a walkman i was an 11 year old with an interest in "old timey" music.

Sometimes I think this Madonna's album is kinda forgotten and it is an injustice because musically and her jazzy voice here is one of a kind, truly a masterpiece album.
@awk2301Ай бұрын
A special concept album where Madonna takes on her Dick Tracy movie persona Breathless Mahoney for virtually the entire tracklist. Amazing she gave the world this gem only a year after Like a Prayer. It tends to be overshadowed by Vogue and because of everything else she had going on at the time, but it's a terrific work in her repertoire!
