Ron Boone’s impact on basketball stretches far beyond the broadcast booth. Before calling Utah Jazz games for more than 35 years, he was a key part of the Utah Stars’ 1971 ABA Championship team and a standout player during the golden era of professional basketball.
Boone hails from Omaha, Nebraska, a city that produced seven professional athletes in a 10-year span during the civil rights era-including legends like Gale Sayers and Bob Gibson.
“There’s only three of us left, of those guys,” Boone reflected.
Now, as he nears the end of his broadcasting career, Boone is reflecting on his journey-from his playing days to his time behind the mic. He shares his thoughts on the future, the former NBA player he still holds a grudge against, and the unforgettable night he went head-to-head with Pete Maravich.
