Yesterday, after taking my husband’s service dog (and our fur baby) to the vet, what I thought was a sprained leg, the X-ray revealed the cruel truth. Aggressive bone cancer. Little did I know yesterday was my last day with him. Life throws us so many heart-breaking journeys. Having to say good bye is so difficult. I said good bye to my husband three years before when he passed away. Now his service dog. Coming back to my house yesterday, I sat here totally alone and in silence wondering why God would allow this. Truth is, I don’t know, but I do know I trust God. So I’ll wait until the day we are reunited again. Time is the most precious gem we are given. Don’t waste it. I also know as a Christian I am allowed to weep with sorrow. But I do not sorrow in hopelessness. I sorrow with hope that I know I will see my husband again someday!

If I may, I'd suggest starting by changing the question you're asking from "why" to "what". Instead of asking why God allowed this to happen, try asking what God would have you learn from this, or in what ways does God want you to serve Him through this. That simple change of question can change your entire mindset and approach to difficult situations. Hope it helps.

I just want you to know - your pets go to heaven. A few years back, I lost my 2 Italian Greyhounds - like 6 months apart. I could not have children; so they were my babies. I cried for 2 months and then one day, I asked Jesus to bring them to me for a visit. A short time later, an angel showed up with both in tow! The angel had short blond hair in a page boy cut. He had on a short silver toga. His sandals had little wings on the outside of his sandals. I live in an apartment - and I brought them inside. I got to play with them for awhile. When they laid down to sleep, I covered them up in their blanket - they disappeared. Heaven would not be heaven without them. God knows and is such a good Daddy God. If you know Jesus as your Savior - you will see them again! Be blessed!

Brought tears to my eyes seeing you struggle with the reality of saying goodbye to a loved member of your family's world. Then I smiled watching you help your daughter get ready for a big life event - the realization that it was your very strong maternal instinct that drove your decision and the same instict that brought you out of the sadness to share in this special moment with your daughter was not lost on me, even though I do not have children or a pet at this point.

Nevaeh looks so beautiful for Prom Night and the looker she had taking her to the prom is so heartwarming they are growing up so fast but they so well brought up. I can't stop crying after seeing your story today. When I moved to San Francisco 20 years ago, I had my dog with me. She'd been with me for 9 years. I didn't have a place to live that allowed dogs, and arranged a share with a gal who had a yard for a dog. Eventually, I had a place to keep my dog with me, but at that same time, the gal I shared her with was diagnosed with cancer. I couldn't take my dog away from her in that difficult time and chose to let her keep my dog as her own. They'd already spent a year together, and it was was best for her and my dog. The right thing to do can so be the saddest, most difficult thing to do.

Just know you did the right thing for that little red horse. It hurts, but you did all you could for him. I had tears with you knowing the hurt you are going thru. I love my animals as family also. Love to you all.

We've had about 15 horses over time. As a little girl, all I wanted was a horse - never thought I would have one, let alone 15. Everyone of them is unique. I totally understand how you're feeling, but you should be easier on yourself. You've made the right decision. Sending hugs.

Incredible amount of work done each week. Hard decisions, tearful choices and memories abound lead us to what is right for our family. From tears of sorrow to tears of joy with Neveah each moment finds its place in our heart where it’s kept safe and sound. You’re family is what most families strive for.

I'm so sad for Coda and I knew it was coming the day you mentioned Kiara fell down a couple of times. I know we can take every hardship on ourselves but when it comes to our loved ones, nothing matters except their safety.

Melissa you done the right thing! No one needs an unstable horse around their children. So he’ll get more training with more experienced riders. So feel like you made the right decision for not only your family but for him also. 😊👍🏼

now that your sheeting is mostly done there is a trick to putting it up which might be helpful. take a 2x4 and a door hinge. screw the hinge to the top of the 2x4, and the other end to the top-center sheet. This way, when you set the sheet in place, the 2x4 works as a kick stand against the ground, and the sheet can't fall backwards while you reposition to nail it. It's not ideal, but when you're working by yourself, it'll drastically help.

After going through something similar last year, I learned that you have to think of the animal first, which sometimes involves doing what you don't want to do and instead doing what is best for the animal. You did the right thing. Sometimes things just don't work out. You did what was best for Koda, and it was the responsible thing to do, which makes you a great horse owner in my eyes. It's gut-wrenching, I know--I still sometimes cry over my girl--but I know she's happy in her new home, and her new people are giving her what I couldn't.

As an animal lover and advocate, I know how painful of a decision and situation it was for you all, especially you. I sobbed as soon as you mentioned it. Just know that you did the healthiest and safest choice for the safety of the ones you love and protect at all costs. Me ke aloha nui from Hawaiʻi. ❤❤❤

Koda has beautiful eyes and is a handsome horse. He's going to a good home he'll miss you. He didn't wanna go you can tell. You always miss a family member whether it's a human or fur baby. Proud of you guys too for doing almost all the work on your property.

You made the best decision for Koda. It's sad when any animal leaves us, but it's better for him knowing he has a new home with someone who will love and understanding. He needs alot more work than you can do with him. He wasn't thrown away, he was moved to a better place for him. It's hard but best for him

I've been in a similar situation with an animal that didn't quite work out as planned and had to say goodbye after a couple of years. Prayers that that little red horse has found his forever home and everyone will find peace and happiness in your most difficult, but correct decision. Nothing wrong with shedding tears as he left your home. It shows you have a heart filled with love. Hugs to you all.

Big, big hugs. It's a good change for both, but like you recognize it is not an easy change and there is still loss and grief. I hope Koda has a wonderful new family and life. I will pray that your loss and grief is gentle. ❤ To you all.
