THE ROLAND! YES!! Don't get me wrong, I love Yamaha and Korg for certain things, but here the Roland sounded the least "contrived", the least "over-programmed", and overall sounded the "most natural" to me. I'm 55, I've played the piano since I was 7!!!

I have an MX88, MXOF8, and the Roland DS. I had a Korg Krome but ditched it awhile back. Also got a couple Crumar organs and a Hammond SK2, Roland VR-09 and GAiA. When I want a realistic sounding piano I go for the DS. I like the key bed so much better, it has a little push back and feels more natural to me. The feel on the Yamaha is lighter and I still like them for other things. But for piano, I go with the DS. Plus you can download a bunch of expansion sounds for it.

I know people have their favourites. I had a Roland Fantom, Korg Trinity and a Korg Karma and worked in a music shop selling this stuff. The answer is it is subjective and what you get used to. Sometimes a sound that works on it's own won't in a band situation etc. Get used to your gear. Most people wouldn't know any difference anyway. Go and try them out.

Hi Lee and the rest of crew. I just want to commend you guys on the fantastic online "world" you have created for your business. I'm actually a guitarist of 30 years that fell in love with synths almost 15 years ago. I love both instruments. I have watched hours and hours of your videos that showcase guitars and absolutely love how you are involving your demographic in a total immersion sort of way that really speaks to the musician. We all love gear. Right? I've come to understand that, lately, you guys are starting to produce synth/ keyboard vids. I've never been to your store. I am in America. Don't know what sort of piano/synth department you have. But, I would absolutely love to see more vids that really get into the nuts and bolts of synths/ keyboards/ VST's and DAW's on the same level of personality and passion as the vids with Chappers and Rabea. I think what you guys are doing is awesome and I have verbally suggested your vids to guys I work with (restaurant). Keep doing what you do.

I like Roland most. I also like the sound of Roland FP-30 but I wonder do any of them have sequencer (kind of like the JD-Xi or Electribe) and a microphone input so I can compose and record a whole song on one of these? And then each instrument show up in an easy to use cheap or free DAW software?
@DeinonychusD7 жыл бұрын
The Juno-DS does do all that - it has an 8 track sequencer and connects straight to your DAW via USB. But if that is your main purpose, you might want to consider the Roland FA-08, which is designed for creating tracks and has a host of other features to make developing ideas easy. The FA has 16 tracks to the Juno's 8 as well.
@charbax7 жыл бұрын
I bought the FA-08 last week!! I'm quite very impressed and super happy. But to get all my compositions made I probably will need to learn to sync it with and use a DAW like Ableton possibly (know any easier DAW than Ableton that synchronizes well with FA-08?), it just seems I might not be able to do everything that I want to do only on the built-in sequencer. Although it's super awesome, I wish Roland was able to do some kind of touch-screen UI (for things like track editing, copy/paste/with keyboard/mouse input), all these up, down, left, right, enter, exit menus and scroll wheel feel limiting. But surely the FA-08 sequencer seems much better featured than my Electribe2, but as I got to play with the Electribe2 I was able to make some funky sounding loops a bit more easily.
@DeinonychusD7 жыл бұрын
I'm not a DAW user so can't really help, but Ableton is the most widespread so you should be able to find lots of tutorials on KZbin. Have you found the FA-06/08 group on Facebook? If they're anything like the JD-XI/XA group I'm in you'll be able to get plenty of answers there.

As far as the keyboard itself, for the most part, I have always been a Korg guy. But, however, I like having Roland and Yamaha sounds as well. So I have a few different sound modules. One being the good old JV 1080. Which in the part of the video as the Juno DS was being browsed to find an electric piano sound, that West Coast piano, and then I thought I heard the JV 1080 Rhodes. I’m pretty sure that West Coast piano was a JV 1080 patches well. I mean, I’m sure not everybody will agree with me on this point, but why just have the sounds of one manufacture and be locked into just that? If you can afford and have the space for modules, why not just have all of the sound Library is at your fingertips?

Also it didn't feel like I was playing sandwich bags but the feel of the keys where great. Aan het eind van de dag heb ik mijn eerste Roland, en dat na 40 jaar after my first synth.

What I'm trying to find out is whether the MX has the capability to edit presets with multiple voices/splits within the instrument itself and save them for call up in a live situation without having to use a P.C. I have, thus far, been unable to find a shop with one in and one was met with blank stares when I asked this question in a place where they said they could order it for me, but didn't stock it anymore. There's no way, I want to shell out the dosh only to find that it's limited to 3 sound layering and one split, which seems to be the suggestion on the videos I've seen so far. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks! ;O)

I have the Roland ds 76 as my first keyboard. I am loving it. As it’s my first and I’m learning how to play, I really don’t know much how to use its capabilities. I mess around with a few different sounds but I look forward to figuring out how to use its features. At present, I use monitor headphones but eventually need to get a simple home use amplifier or some speakers. I suppose it’s good nobody can hear what I’m playing now! I’m s guitar player first but want to get to the point where I can play both my guitar and keyboard with a looper pedal and play some blues and would like to learn ambient stuff. Keyboardists out there, what would you recommend for amp? I may eventually play with a few guitarists as accompaniment. Not planning to perform for large audiences. Also, is it worth my while to explore more sounds on Rolands expansion site? There are so many already.
@crnova75 жыл бұрын
I use the Exp-01 Dance Trax expansion. It gives you some awesome kits and drumm loops. Which you can use anywhere. You can even use the loops as part of the patern sequencer when you sync the tempo. Also I use a pair of Monkey Banana Gibbon 5 monitors (half the price of the Juno DS 61), and they give me a great balanced stereo sound at home. With a bluetooth adapter connected to the audio-in from the Roland I use them also for audio playback without the need of a mixer. Great for movies as well .. The first feature You should learn is the favourites feature. There is a video from Roland on how it works. You can call patches and more from multiple banks.

Geoff Benko Well... I personally LOVE the sound of the Juno. It is a serious piece of gear, and by no means a „toy“. I know Jack called them „entry level“, but you can do some serious gigging with all of these machines. The Juno just sounds better in my opinion. I had the Juno for 2 weeks, then returned it and got the Roland FA instead. Reason: the FA has a sequencer, 16x4 Pads, and the Playback of Audio files can be sent to a separate physical output.
@sudanjackson6 жыл бұрын
oh yeah - and the keys... to give you a straight answer: the key action on the DS 88 is outstanding. It's the same action from their Digital Pianos. Alot of people complain about the synth-action keys on the DS 61, but I don't see the problem. If you're going to be playing "piano-y" stuff then maybe get a different board... If you're just gigging and need to hammer out some chords and play solos, then the synth-action is "almost better". This is coming from a guy who played the Korg M1 at gigs for YEARS (Still have it too).. I then "graduated" to a 500 kilo beast of a Yamaha stage piano in the early 90s. After that it was a Roland stage piano. Now I'm back on the synth-action with the FA 07, and I love it. But that's me. Your mileage.. you know the score.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem...ew... yesI said the "P" word! For decades I have chosen Yamaha because I rely on the quality and I've never had a problem...Well until I got an MX88. I feel the same way about Tascam. I don't know if it's just me or what but it seems these days everything is being made so cheaply. The tech is there but the hardware has gotten cheaper every decade. ANYWAY... I got my MX88 last June specifically to tackle a project I had planned for a year. Having previously had a few Motif's I'm familiar with what the MX has and for that...no surprises. The action is good, but I also have a P255 and these actions are supposed to be the same, but they are not. It's all about the feel. ANYWAY...right out of the box after getting everything setup to start the project I noticed a crackling noise every time I turned the MX on. Consistently on every power on with first note/chord strike. All on attack of the note. BUT... after a few notes it would subside. Knowing now... I should have immediately returned it, but anxious to get the project going I made the exception since the noise consistently seemed to subside upon playing. It was like it just needed to warm up. Fast forward to project completion. After weeks of practice and many out takes I had a track I was happy with. BUT as I began to listen more carefully readying for mixdown I began to notice there were STILL crackles within the track. Be they ever so subtle... they were there, all on the strike/attack of the note! Because this noise is specific to the strike/attack of the note I was able to work around it by playing a little less aggressively and was eventually able to get a keeper track. However some crackling was still there. I performed a number of tests to ensure it wasn't another piece of equipment or a bad cable and found unanimously my MX has a problem. So yesterday I boxed it up and sent it to the nearest service center and it should be interesting to see what they find. So that said... has anyone else noticed this dilemma?

I actually appreciated the mono for how these would sound going through a PA. None of the techs I work with run stereo and my personal, and limited, application is live use

do these have in built speakers or do you need to go through an amp?

they’re synths so you need a amp

The piano isn't at all the strong point on the MX88. It had some real nice electric organ and synth sounds.

MX falls behind Kross and Juno for synths
@BrainToMush3 жыл бұрын
@@Jason75913 That's a matter of opinion. I happen to like the reverb and sustain on the MX88 and they go particularly well with the vibe sounds and the DX sounds on the MX88. I also happen to lile the GHS system on the MX88 better than I like the DS hammer system. Others might disagree, but I'm not that big a fan of the Roland weighting. I prefer the feel of the MX88 over the DS and I much prefer the feel of the Montage 8 over the Fantom 8. That should not take away from the fact that they both sound fantastic in their own right.

Are the Roland's hammered keys ok for organ playing?
@Synsizer4 жыл бұрын
May be a loaded question and personal choice for sure. I just bought the JUNO DS (88) and this is the first time my hands and fingers have hurt after playing a keyboard of any kind. Oddly, this may be my favorite piano board as besides the pianos themselves, the feel is natural and quite interesting. However, I hope my hands "adjust" to this board. As to the organs, they are decent, not bad at all really. Nothing compared to Nords, roland VR-09B etc., but usable. For organ playing, this keybed is out of the question for me. Rakes and smears would almost leave you a bloody mess and be painful with it. I am sure some would feel entirely different about it, but for me it is just no practable. I have an 88 note synth style controller board I will be using as the controller for the DS organs. But will switch over to the DS for pianos and such. This is one board ppl should try out in person befor buying. Personally I really like it or I wouldn't have bought it, but as with all boards, there are pros and cons.

@@Synsizer I thought the piano keys of the DS were stiff and I could never have played it, ended up getting the DS61, is standard synth keys and fun to play.

Hey I must decide between a Yamaha MX88 and a Roland ds88 I just want to know which keyboard would be the best one to get because they both have a lot of feathers and both look like great keyboards but I don't want to make a mistake by choosing the wrong one. I can get both for the same price. I just want some advice on which one to pick

Me im going with MX88. Over a thousand quality sounds from motif sound engine, excellent keybed for 999$. Go check out Piano man chuck review of mx88. You will be sold on the Yamaha
@socasack5 жыл бұрын
@@joeminton5770 Chuck doesn't seem to like Roland at all. I think he doesn't have a contract with them except for amps so he doesn't really talk about them at all. So his info will be skewed.

Nice video brother! Love the way play. I have a DS and Korg and sometimes use both on stage at the same time. I feel the Korg cuts through better - but Roland "plays" better for me. I like its feel. Overall, they sound so similar that it doesn't really make much difference on stage. So it's all the feel.

Hey n00b, how close is the feel of the Juno DS88 to that of an acoustic piano? Do you think it would be the best of those 3 above? Right now my kids practice on a Yamaha DGX 660 which has graded hammer keys, but the action is still lighter than an acoustic. Their piano teacher has a Yamaha Clarinova CVP-303- that has a heavier touch (closer to an acoustic). The sound doesn't matter as much as the feel (in my case), because I want them to play/practice on something that is similar to an acoustic. Thanks!

SOud of all three Keyboards is not the rela on ei this video. There is a Comptrssor/limiter or both or at least the KZbin video transformation or the video-rendering software added this effekt. All pianos have a saturation in this video that they do not have "in nature". Sorry useless to ee for sound comparism..
