shoutout to NRS for seeing all the flak they got in MK11 for hiring a celebrity that couldn't voice act to voice a legacy character and acting on it for MK1 by... hiring a celebrity that can't voice act for a legacy character. Worst part is, it's not even a good deal for the celebs either. Ronda's Sonya died in chapter one of MK11 and Megan's Nitara shows up, like, three times total in the story mode. They get done dirty just as much as the fans that have to listen to them.

I saw all the Nitara lines/interactions in another video and she goes from flat, to straightforward, to having subtle hints of personality, to very decent, and to absolute gems... in no particular order. She's reading the lines more than she's characterizing them, too normal-sounding for a setting as wild as MK. Consistency, thy name is not Megan Fox.

This might sound crazy but MK’s Baraka and Crash Bandicoot’s Dingodile kinda have a similar redemption arc. In the prime timeline, they were both small-time goons but when each franchise got rebooted, both mutant characters became businessmen trying to live a normal life but got dragged into crazy situations.

The weirdest thing about Nitara in this is that if you listen to her ending and intro dialogues, Megan Fox doesn't put in a bad performance in *those* - the delivery can be weird but it's weird in a way that doesn't feel out of place in MK. Exactly, her pre fight intros are really decent, except for her one line against Johnny but it's an outlier, her story mode dialogue sounds like she's trying but isn't used to voice acting compared to screen acting like she normally does. Just a few new takes or a brief class or two and she would've done better.

I never thought in my life I would feel genuine empathy and actually root for both Baraka AND Reptile! They took 2 C list characters that I always thought were okay or kinda cool, into 2 of the most badass AND complex characters in all of Mortal Kombat! I love that the writers put as much focus on the less famous characters as the much as they do the main cast. Like an Avengers movie.

They're doing them and us a disservice by sprinting through their backstories with exposition dialogue instead of showing it (or better yet, letting us play them). But, at least they're keeping focused on "Earthrealm is the hero" for now.

C list tier fits to Reiko, Nitara, Ashrah, Geras and Havik. Neither Reptile nor Baraka are C-list. Baraka is easily B tier and Reptile is A for sure. Reptile is a fan favorite. The only characters that fits C tier from the first 3 games are Nightwolf, Stryker, Sheeva and maybe Kabal.

Man, Baraka is a really interesting character in this game. I thought it was neat that they were willing to do more with Baraka in Mortal Kombat 11, but ultimately he didn't get much screentime there... here, though, he's become an important character, adding a lot of depth to his actions and giving him the chance to be better. Expanding on Reptile's character is also neat, he's been a more sympathetic character for awhile now, but that was relegated to his relationship with Kotal Kahn that was only really present in the MKX comic.

I know it's par for the course for MK characters to survive cartoonishly-lethal wounds, but Kenshi is incredibly lucky that Monster Mileena didn't kill him when she plunged those sais into his eyes. The bone of the ocular cavity is quite thin and the frontal cortex is right behind it.

Never did I ever think a Mortal Kombat game would make me smile; not out of amusement but a warm smile. One which signifies that the story made me feel something. Johnny giving Kenshi the sword feels so earned. It’s not like an extremely emotional part of the story but it’s one that was built up to and makes sense. I can’t believe Mortal freaking Kombat has made me care far more about its characters and story than any other fighting game. I kinda love it.
