Also I feel bad for Alireza in this one, played so well but then fumbled the endgame in time pressure. Er, I guess it wasn't technically the endgame because queens were still on but if he had like 3 or 4 minutes to think about that killing knight move I guarantee he would've found it. Such is the armageddon time control, I guess. I wish it was a little bit more forgiving, another 2 minutes for each side at least.

@pantheropardus76276 ай бұрын
A couple reasons. You’re going to lose knight anyway. You can take rook 5pts or both knights 6pts. Also if NxR, black knight can take c3 and hit white queen etc

So these chess champions have to spend several weeks in Norway for a chance at a portion of a total $160,000 prize fund. By comparison, the LOWEST paid player in the NHL gets $10,000 for a single game played in a single night. Whereas the highest paid players in the NHL get about $100,000 for a single game. By the way, a single NHL game is a lot shorter than a single game of chess.

I used to be playing chess everyday and winning every game, I'm not a fantastic player but that was my world. Winning became so so to me and i began using games to experiment and try new ways and take bigger chances. My game did suffer in results sometimes but to me it became a more interesting way to play. Seeing Carlsen play recently i suspect he is going through a similar phase.
