I absolutely hate the fact that the younger generation never got to see Bird, Johnson, and MJ live. The 80's and 90's were a hell-of-a-time to watch the NBA. I stand by the fact that a lot of today's superstars would be good to average players back then. The reason for that statement is the fact the defense was different back then. In the 80's, if you went to the rim you had a 50/50 chance the defender would go for your head instead of the ball!

@jdmmike72258 ай бұрын
That's what I'm saying. Yes there were better dunkers of course, better shooters, better defenders, better stealer & maybe one or two better passers but Bird was top 5 in all those categories. And his game IQ made everyone else on court look like children. Like Kareem said the muscle between his ears was his strongest weapon. Best overall player ever in my opinion.

You are right, Basketball isn't the same now, that's why older people like me rather watch an old game from the 80's or 90's than a live game. It was different back then. It was tough, physical, mentally draining. Players then were different. You had to have really big balls to step on that court with guys like Larry, Jordan, Magic,....

I'm from Boston and have seen ALLLL the Larry Bird reactions. You are my absolute favorite! I have never seen anyone (esp the younger people) who have such deep knowledge of thar great era. Imagine if a player like Bird had access to the health, training, and sports medicine advancements that have happened in the last 40 years! Imagine with all those advantages combined with Larry's mental toughness, grit, his mental and scrappy, physical talent... HIS TRASH TALKING... his ability to play hurt (like when he ran back out into the game to help his team after he had FRACTURED! HIS! CHEEKBONE! and had a concussion after that vicious fall where his head and face literally BOUNCED off the floor!) Who DOES that now? Guys practically leave the game over a hangnail these days. He played so hard, he fell apart early, but he played through the pain for so long, and his stats for what he accomplished during his short career are jaw dropping.

The man worked harder than probably anyone ever. He just became great because he worked so hard. He was confident and could back up what he told other players. His trash talk was psychological warfare. And when he backed it up he instilled fear and gained respect. It wasn't insultive or vulgar or mean spirited it was competitive psychological warfare. And it is not effective unless you back it up.

Atlanta coach told Dominique Wilkins that they were charged 3,000 Dollars Each but he actually charged the players 100 Dollars Each. And when they walked out they said to each other that was the Best 100 Dollar Seat in the House. 😂 Larry Bird was just Different than everyone else and had the Best Outside Shot in the League!!!! And Kasey was told by Red if Larry Bird wants the ball 🏀 you give him the ball! That's from the Owner, Larry Bird was always calling the Shots and he would get everyone involved in the Game. Larry Bird loved getting his Team a Big lead and check out early in the 4th Quarter sometimes the 3rd Quarter. Just so his Backups are getting real game experience under their belts. And that just makes him and the Team ALL AROUND TEAM PLAY!!!! Can Win Champion 🏆 Game.

Bird is unique. When you nearly average a triple double for a career, you should be a FREAK athlete that rivals Jordan. But Bird was a BIG 6 '9 that could shoot from long distance and pass. Just the way Luka makes everyone look BAD at basketball today, so did Bird years ago.

Today's NBA is SOFT!! One thing young people do not realize about the NBA up into the 80's, it was a real fight every night. A fight would break out in almost every game. There were fouls called but nobody would be thrown out of the game for fighting. You kept going and you kept fighting. It was so much tougher then. Today, you blow your breath too hard on a guy and it's a foul.

Whats crazy with Bird, he never talked down any generation after he went out, hes always supporting players like lebron and curry, Jordan, etc. Hes just a great player and loves the game, I dont watch NBA, Havent since 2001 or so, and dont have any want to go and watch the sport, but I can consistently go back to the 90s and 80s and still be entertained, especially the stories. Not shitting on current basketball, just not what I enjoy, but I wont say they arent talented, thats one thing I can say about Bird, he will find something positive to say and doesnt cut people down for any reason off the court.
